The Chosing

Jane's POV.

I couldn't stop shaking. Frank was holding me close by the waist so I wouldn't fall over. My legs didn't want to move. I wanted to run away, desperately.
We were walking to the cliffs, the same cliffs I tried to kill myself.
"Why are we going to the cliffs?" I asked Frank
"We thought that it would be nice to have the ceremony in a place that has meaning to you." He answered with a small smile, "after all, this is a new start to your life. I think it's poetic that you should start a new life in the place were it almost ended. Don't you?"
I couldn't answer so I just looked straight ahead and kept on walking.

When we reached the cliffs I saw that everything was prepared for the ceremony. On the ground were I should stand to be Chosen surrounded by torches, was a circle made of dead twigs, flowers and leaves, the Light Caster connection to the Earth. In a small table next to the circle, was a bone dagger and a black cup, and in a cage next to the table was a mountain lion, The Dark Caster connection to the Earth. If I'm Chosen to the Light, I would be able to revive the circle around me, proving my connection the every living thing. If I'm Chosen to the Dark, I would have to sacrifice the lion and drink it's blood, completing my connection to the Dark, by blood and power over all living things.

The sun had already set. The only light around us was the twilight. The Chosing would happen when the moon rised.
With a wave of his hand, Gerard lit the torches, giving us more light. I was still standing next to Frank, grabbing his arm so tightly like my life depend on it. I did not want to do this.
Gerard and Mikey turned around to face me, their faces filled with concern,
"It's time Jane..." Gerard said.
I tighten my grip on Frank's arm and took a step back, but he turned around to look at me and wrapped his arms around my waist,
"You can do this Jane... Everything will be alright..." He said softly.
I could see myself reflected in his eyes. I looked terrified. My face was white as a sheet and my eyes were wide.
"I....What...." I mumbled
"Whatever happens..." He continued, "I'll be here for you. We'll get throught this...together."
He leaned towards me, connecting his lips to mine. The kiss was slow and passionate, the type of kiss you don't want to end.
"Jane..." Mikey said, making me and Frank break our kiss.
I looked at him and nodded, then I looked at Frank. He smiled at me and cupped my face with his hands, making me look down and kissing me on the forehead, "I love you... So much..."
"I love you too..." I looked up into his eyes. My greatest fear was that, after the Chosing, my feelings for him won't be the same, that everything we fought for would have ment nothing. We fought so hard to be together, and now there was a chance that it would all go to waist...
I kissed Frank again and then started walking to the center of the circle. When I reached it, I turned around to face my brothers and Frank, leaving the moon to rise behind me. I didn't know when it was going to happen, I needed to wait for the moon to be aligned with my heart.
Gerard cleared his throat and spoke,
"Jane Rose Way, on this night you will be Chosen to the Light, or the Dark. The Earth has witnessed your life and has judged you for it. Now, it is her duty to decide were your future lies... By being Chosen, you are swearing you alligence to the side you're pulled to. The breaking of said alligence will result in treason, trial... And death. You will follow the traditions of your side without judgment, and you will abide to them without questioning..." Gerard stopped, like he was considering something, then continued, "Unless said traditions place your life, or your family's at risk, then it is you right to challenge the traditions." Mikey and Frank smiled when they looked at me. Gerard didn't noticed so he continued, "This is the Caster oath. Will you swear on it?"
"I swear...." I said, my voice weak and filled with fear.
"Then may the Earth Chose your rightful side, and may you live with it in peace..."
I looked at Frank, I needed to say it one last time, before everything changed. I opend my mouth,
"I lov..."
But I didn't manage to finish my sentence. The moonlight struck my back and burned against my skin. I could feel my insides burning as they were being set on fire. I couldn't breath. My eyes went dark and I couldn't see anything around me. I felt myself turn around to face the moon, when I did, my eyesight came back, but all I could see was the hypnotic white glow of the moon. The force of the Chosing made me drop to my knees. Then the pain was gone...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Frank's POV.

Jane tried to say something before the moon reached her, but it was too late. When the moonlight reached her back she turned stiff and gasped. I could see that she was I pain. She opend her mouth to scream but nothing came out. "I need to stop this"
I started walking towards her but Mikey grabbed my arm. I looked at him and he just shook his head. I looked at Jane again. She had our back turned to us and she was looking up at the moon, suddenly she dropped to her knees and her body relaxed. It was over. She had been Chosen. The question is, to what side?
The answer to that question was shown when she got up and turned around to face us. Her beautiful wavy brown hair was now as black as a raven's wing and her face was white. But it was the eyes that said it all... Her eyes were black. She had been Chosen to the Dark.

When I looked at her, my heart broke. She was Dark, just like her brothers.
It was all over. Everything we fought for was useless now. I lost her to the Dark and there was nothing I could do about it. I started to cry.
She was looking at us but she wasn't seeing us. She was in trance. I saw her extend her arm and the bone dagger flew over to her hand. She grabbed it and walked to the cage. The lion roared in fear but Jane placed her hand on top of the cage and the lion calmed down. She was manipulating his mind. She opend the cage and the lion came out. They both walked side by side back to the circle. The lion sat in front of Jane, facing us and she stood behind him, with the dagger in her hand.
The sight was beautiful. Jane looked more powerful than ever, like a goddess. The moon was shining behind her and her now black hair was swaying in the breeze.
She looked over at the table, and the cup flew to her other hand. She leaned down to place the dagger on the lions neck and with a swift movement, she cut its throat.
Blood poured from the wound and she placed the cup beneath it, so that the blood would pour inside. The lion slumped lifeless to the ground at her feet. The bone dagger was dripping with blood and the cup was filled to the rim. She brought the cup to her lips and drank. The sight of it made me gag.
When she finished drinking all the blood, Gerard and Mikey stteped foward. Gerard was holding the Blood Stone in his hands. They reached Jane and Gerard handed her the Stone. Before she took it, she placed the cup back on the table and lifeted her palm. She ran the dagger across her palm and blood started dripping from it. She closed it, and lifeted it so that it was over the Stone and the blood was dripping over it. The Stone started to glow when Jane's blood touched it.
"Now your blood and power will always be connected to our ancestors. May there blood and power give you as much strengh as it did its previous owners." Gerard said, as he placed the Stone in Jane's hands, "Awake now Jane Rose Way, and welcome to the Dark."
As soon as he said it, Jane blinked and woke up from her trance. Her eyes and hair were still black, but they looked more alive than before. She stared at her brothers.
"I'm Dark." She said, her voice sounded more secure and fearless
"Yes..." Mikey answerd.
The guys had their backs faced towards me so I couldn't see if they looked worried or proud.
My heart was racing and I was still crying. I sobbed a bit and Jane looked at me.
She looked like she was seeing me for the very first time. Her eyes were wide, but I couldn't see if she recognized me. She stepped away from her brothers and walked towards me. The Blood Stone was still in her hand and she was holding it tightly.
I froze in place, unsure about what she would do. Would she recognized me? Did she remeber me?
Now that she was closer, I could see that her eyes were dark red. Her face was white and her lips were dark red as well, making her look like a painting.
She was so close to me, that she could almost touch me. I didn't move. Her eyes roamed around my face and I searched for any sign of recognition, but nothing showed...
"Jane... Don't you remember me?" I said, my voice cracking a bit with the tears. She was still looking at me like she didn't know me.
"It's Frank... Please baby... It's Frank..." My voice was weak and I was shaking. She had to remember... This couldn't end like this...
"Frank..." She said the name like she was tasting the words, "Frank...", here eyes locked on mine and she spoke again, "I should tell you something..."
"Yes..." I whisperd, did she knew who I was know?
"I love you..." She said, with a smile on her lips
I couldn't belive what I was hearing, I thought I was dreaming, "What?... What did you say?..." I asked, trying to contain my surprise
"I said, I love you, that's what I was going to say before..."
She didn't finish her sentence because I crashed my lips in hers. She remembered me, and she still loved me. Happiness flooded my heart and I wrapped my arms around her waist, lifting her. I felt her legs wrapp around me, and her hands cupped my face.
I broke the kiss to look at her, her face was wet with my tears, "I love you so much, I was afraid I lost you! Oh by the Earth, I'm so happy right now!" I said, smiling so much I feard my face would split in two.
"You're not going to get rid of me that easily..." She said, smiling as well
"I'm never letting you go Jane Way... I'm never letting you go..." I kissed her again
We stayed like that until Gerard cleared his throat, breaking our focus. Jane looked over at her brothers and smilled. She jumped off of me and held my hand, "We should go home" she said. Her brothers smilled and nodded, starting to make they're way back to the house. I started to walk as well but I felt that Jane wasn't moving. I looked at her and she was staring at the dead lion at the edge of the circle.
"Baby? What's wrong?" I asked, but she didn't answer. Instead she let go of my hand and walked to the lion.
"Jane?" I heard Mikey call behind me.
The three of us were staring at her, as she kneeld down next to the lion. She didn't move for a while, but then she placed her hands on the lion's back and closed her eyes.
"Jane what are y..." I asked, but soon fell silent when I saw what was happening. Her hands were glowing. The wound on the lion's neck was slowly closing. Jane pressed harder on its back and the lion inhaled, coming back to life.
My jaw dropped at the sight. She brought the lion back to life! No one can do that! Not even the most powerful Light Caster! Death is the one thing we can't change. If we ever tried, the power would be to great and it would kill us, but there Jane stood, bringing the lion back to life without even flinching.
The lion shrugged and stood up. It turned around to face her and growled. Jane stood up in front of it and looked down. The lion stopped growling and bowed to Jane, before running off, into the woods.
Jane watched as the lion dissapeard between the trees and then walked back to my side. She looked like nothing had happend.
I was still looking completely amazed at her when she reached me. As soon as she did, the first thing I did was grab her hands.
"Frank what..." She asked, surprised at my actions
I twisted and turned both her hands looking for something. When I found it, my jaw dropped again and my eyes widen. I looked up at her in disbelief.
On the inside of her left wrist, was a Fleur de Lis, perfectly drawn on her skin. A Healers mark...
"That's impossible..."
