Before The Sun Goes Down

One More Time, Thanks For The Memories

Frank wipes his face, smiling. Cold breeze wafts through the air, making people pull their jackets tighter around them.
The geyser fills back up with water, steam floating off it as the water bubbles. The crowd disperses, having seen a pretty impressive geyser-explosion, but Frank stays and watches for a while. It's not very often you're in Iceland watches geysers, is it?
A few minutes later, and another spray of fifty feet high water happens. Everyone in the surrounding area stops and stares for a second, but only a few get sprayed. The wind has changed it's direction, and so has the spray. Frank stays dry.
After that one, Frank walks to a bench and sits down, looking and taking everything in. The landscape is much the same, dry-looking, and cold. But beautiful at the same time. In the distance, you can see mountains or tall hills, or maybe even Eyjafallajokull.
Frank really wasn't sure what he was looking at, but he likes it.
Today was probably his favorite day so far in Iceland, but tomorrow he was visiting a glacier, Vatnajokull.
He hasn't really thought about Gerard at all over the past few months, because he'd kept himself busy with traveling and everything; but being here, today, reminded him of London. Sitting down on the benches in the park, before Camden Market...
He feels nostalgic, but not sad. Which was a first.
Two years and this was the first time that he'd thought about Gerard without feeling like running back to wherever Gerard is and never leave his side. Instead, Frank smiles. He thinks over the happy times, even the sad times, and feels happiness and pride.
What they had was special, and it run it's course and ended. That was the best way for them to end up, and hopefully Gerard feels the same.
He and Mikey kept in contact. Speaking regularly. Mikey gave Frank brief updates about Gerard, and apparently he's been doing well. They don't see each other too much, but when they do, Gerard seems happy.
For a while, Frank was jealous of Gerard. Gerard was happy, and he was not. Gerard was managing, and he was not. Frank traveled a lot to take his mind off things, and now, two years later, there aren't many places he hasn't been.
Finally, he feels at peace. With himself, and with Gerard and everything that happened. Frank has isolated himself from people he knows for so long, and it has helped.
He finally feels okay.

Gerard steps outside, waving Mikey goodbye, with a smile on his face.
Walking quickly, he enters a store, looking for some cigarettes. He buys some, taking one out of the packet and lighting it.
It tastes dull, much like everything these days.
He takes a few more drags before chucking it onto the ground and stubbing it out before walking away. Taking his car keys out of his car, a piece of paper also falls out. Frank's note, from two years ago.
Scooping it off the ground before it can get dirty, Gerard smooths it out and reads over it again, barely even having to read it. He folds it back up and puts it in his pocket again.
Unlocking the car, Gerard gets in it and starts it. He starts driving, not sure to where.
A certain kind of emotion passes over him, but he isn't sure what it is.
Gerard feels a lot safer now than what he did a few years ago. The Council thinks he's dead, so they aren't looking for him any more. He made friends with some lycanthrope, and he managed to convince them to go to the Council and tell them that they'd felled Gerard.
A huge weight off of his shoulders.
The note suddenly feels like it's burning a hole in Gerard's pocket, and he feels slightly ashamed to still have it.
Frank has nothing of his, so Gerard shouldn't carry around things of Frank's.
At the next possible point, Gerard pulls over. He pulls the paper out of his pocket, unfolding it.
He re-reads the words, over and over. The smudged writing feels like home to him, but a home he is suddenly not welcome in any more.
Holding it in one hand, another hand reaches and pulls out his lighter. Gulping, Gerard holds the lighter up to the paper and lights it, the flames licking up the page. Slowly, the only thing he really has left of Frank's that means something to him, is destroyed.
The paper is destroyed along with any remnants of romantic feeling Gerard has towards Frank.
Gerard smiles as the flame burns out, and he crumples up the last bit of charred paper that didn't completely burn and he throws it out of the window.
It falls down, rolling along the street slightly with the wind.
Peace washes over Gerard, along with content. He no longer feels tied down or sad about anything.

He finally feels okay.

Notes

Okay.
So, this was the last chapter. I'm sorry if it feels rushed, because it isn't meant to feel like that, but I didn't want to make it too long, and I felt like this was a nice way to end it. There won't be anything else from this story, unless someone wants some loose ends tying up or something, because there probably are loads.
Thank you so much for reading.

This is probably the nicest thing anyone's ever said about me, so thank you very, very much

Fuck. I don't think I've ever cried so much ever. You should think about writing for a career. Very good storyline. Keeps people hooked with lots of twists and turns and a beautiful albeit sad ending. Fabulous :) I've been hooked from the first chapter of forget about the dirty looks. You have a brilliant way of stringing words together to create emotions. Never stop reading and writing because you have undeniable talent. Lots of love for you from this end
