To The End
Chapter Two
Frank held his guitar close and stepped back as Mr. Fitz eyed him slowly, "Do it."
Frank gave a nervous smile, "But I don't-"
"Shush, Frank. Just play." Mr. Fitz kicked up his shoes onto the table. He tapped his pencil against his clipboard, "Shyness is no excuse. This is a small group, it's nothing. If you can't handle 16 people, what makes you think you can handle the stage?" Mr. Fitz tested him.
Frank refused to take the bait. He glanced at Gerard who smiled softly at him. Frank felt his whole body shake at once, which raised some brows in the room. Frank's cheeks burned as his fingers begun to take position on the strings. He cleared his throat into the mic, "Um...I'm not comfortable." His voice murmured through the speakers.
Mr. Fitz gave an unemotional expression. Frank couldn't make out what he was thinking. Frank swallowed nervously and stepped away from the mic. He walked toward his seat and sat down. He clenched his teeth together with utter disappointment in himself. He killed two birds with one stone. He embarrassed himself in front of Gerard and everyone else in the room.
Gerard looked at Frank and whispered to him, "Don't worry, you're okay." Frank looked at him and caught his smile. Frank smiled back, "Yeah, I think I am okay." He locked eyes with Gerard.
After music class was over, Frank snatched his shoulder bag and carried his guitar on his back. He was the first one out of the class and the campus. He made his way down the sidewalk thinking about Gerard's smile. He blushed-he immediately cut it off and cursed underneath his breath. He has a crush and it was hard to admit it. He never did believe there was an afterlife, and he would always find himself curious about the same sex.
"Hey, Frank!"
Frank paused when he heard Gerard's voice call after him. He turned to find Gerard jogging toward him with a smile, "Hi."
Frank smiled back, "Hi."
Gerard asked, "Can I walk with you?"
Frank grinned, "I'd like that."
