After Dark

Chapter 05

Isaac sat beside, bitching about a sexist comment Dakota must have made this morning. She didn’t believe a woman could make a sexist comment therefore Isaac got unusually pissed. Dakota herself was a natural born bitch. No one liked her, just Isaac, and even then it was on again off again thing.

“If you hate her comments so much why are two still together?”
“She’s not all bad… If she just fixed those two things I wouldn’t have a problem.”

Isaac did deserve more than Dakota, but he hasn’t quite gotten round to know that yet. I myself had only met Dakota and spoken to her once. Her ideas of fun were similar to Gee’s, which included being chased by cops and doing something highly illegal.

Tonight, Gee was coming over to hang around Isaac, Alison, her boyfriend, and Dakota. He hadn’t met Alison’s boyfriend quite yet or Dakota. I wasn’t worried; Gee knew how to act in front of people. Isaac on the other hand, had issues with what is okay to say and what isn’t.
He doesn’t have the filter.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alison came in, Todd on her arm with the biggest smile. Isaac leaned over, whispering in my ear.

“He looks like a human SpongeBob.”

I resisted the urge to laugh as Alison and Todd sat down. Isaac and I had a reputation with pulling Todd’s chains. Isaac had made countless comments while I laughed. Todd wasn’t a bad person, and sometimes I felt guilty because of it, but there was something stereotypical things about him.

Tonight, he wore a light blue polo with khaki cargo shorts. He wasn’t like any of us, but then again, none of us are exactly alike.

I walked up to the door as I saw Gee pull into the driveway. I opened the door, meeting him outside. He smiled opening his arms for a hug which I gladly took. I leaned up on tip toes, to wrap my arms around his neck.

“I’m happy you made it.” I said honestly.
“I told you I would.” He said.

He pecked my cheek before setting me down and walking inside. Isaac was first to look over waving hey to Gee. Isaac and Gee were on a better foot, still getting along and slowly becoming friends.

Gee looked over at Todd and then back at Isaac.Isaac leaned over, telling Gee the same thing he told me. Gee laughed and nodded in response, taking a seat next to Isaac. The five of us waited patiently for Dakota who stumbled in at last possible second.

“Hey sweet heart!” She smiled throwing her arms around Isaac and leaning against him.
She looked up before a large smile crossed her face.
“Gee!” She cheered throwing her arms around him.

Gee stood up, laughing and hugging her. His eyes lit up, as he kisses her cheek. Jealousy heats up in me, anger swelling in a tight coil inside. I stare at Dakota while Isaac sits to the side with a confused look.

“You two know each other?” I asked faking a smile.
“Yeah! Dakota and I used to be best friends till she fell off the map!” Gee smiled.
“I did?! You became famous in town and you’re dating this shluck!” She smiled.

I turned to Alison whose eyes had become as wide as mine.

“Don’t let her comments get to you Eva.” She whispered pulling me down to sit with her and Todd.

I felt the urge to start bitching, but bit my tongue to prevent doing so. Dakota and Gee started talking up a storm while the rest of us were left in a silence. I got up, going into my father’s study where he promised to stay for the rest of the night. He wasn’t happy with the idea of Gee being over, but he said it was okay as long as we stayed here.

“Hi.” I greeted sitting beside him.

“What’s up? Aren’t you supposed to be spending time with Gee while I let you?” He asked raising an eyebrow.
“Apparently him and Isaac’s girlfriend are best friends.” I sighed.

A few seconds later Isaac came in taking the seat in front of my Father. Part of me thinks that my dad secretly wanted me and Isaac to get together. He wasn’t keen on me hanging around guys, but with Isaac he openly encouraged it more than Alison did.

“First, you knew Dakota was a whore,” Adam pointed at me, a smile threatening at his face.“Secondly, she told you so, therefore why does it surprise you that the two of them had something?” He asked Isaac.

“He said they were friends,” Isaac corrected. “Dakota and Gee are both that way…” He looked over at me trying to play mad but a smile broke out on his face instead.

“Well, you two get back out to Alison. It’s not very nice of either of you. Tomorrow you three, Alison included, can have one of those sleepovers. I’ll get pizza and whatever else. Just get out there and console and Alison and the prep.”

I laughed at my father’s comments. Adam and I fought a lot and disagreed on a lot of things, that was normal for a teenage girl and her dad, but he and I also agreed on a lot. Adam was doing his best without a wife, and truthfully, he couldn’t do any better.

Isaac and I walked back into the living room where Alison glared, unhappy that we left her there. I shrugged my shoulder, sitting by Isaac on the couch.

“So what are we going to do?” I interrupted Gee and Dakota’s conversation. Gee appeared unfazed by it, while Dakota spoke up.
“We were in the middle of a conversation.” She growled.
“Excuse me while I fail to care.”

I was taken back my own comment, I had never been a sassy person before, I usually bit my tongue in a situation like this, but tonight I spoke up. It felt good, but what didn’t feel good was the stares.

“What are we going to do?” Dakota retorted.
“Isn’t that what I asked?”

Isaac stifled a laugh beside me, covering his mouth with his hand. Dakota sat back, glaring.

“Why don’t we just go out for a calm night at the diner?” Alison stepped in.

Everyone agreed standing up. Gee came over to me, leading me out to his car. I slid into the passenger seat for what felt like the hundredth time and waited. He still had a smile on his face. I should be happy that he found his best friend, but I’m not. I already didn’t like Dakota, and know it was another reason to hate her. Dakota was a prime example of a homewrecker. She messed with other guys while being with Isaac and he knew it.

“You okay?” Gee asked going to grab my hand.

“Fine.” I said. My hand was limp against his, attempting to get the message that I wasn’t okay.
Aggravation tears began to form, but I quickly blinked them away staring at the window. Dakota had managed to invade every inch of my life, and I was getting sick of it. I didn’t like Dakota and she didn’t like, she used the hatred as a weapon.

She’d call me stupid to my face even though she’d been held back twice. The world would be a brighter place without people like Dakota. To be honest, I wouldn’t mind going into the past and completely erasing my friendship with Dakota.

It was hard to believe the two of us had been friends at one point, but we were. I loathed her now, and she loathed me right back.

“Are you mad at Dakota?” He asked turning to me.
“She’s wrecked everything!” I cracked. “We used to be friends and then she took my first boyfriend and I called her out for it. She got all pissy and decided that she wanted to ruin me. She became Isaac’s girlfriend and infested my life and I’m tired of it!”

I let the tears fall hard, not caring anymore.

“Eva I didn’t know it was like that.” Gee said.
“Of course you didn’t because I didn’t tell you.”

“If it makes you feel better I won’t hang out with her anymore.” He said.
“No, I don’t want that. Just don’t talk about.” I sighed leaning my head against the widow.
“Deal.” He laughed.

His grip on my hand increased but decreased as he took his hand away. I looked over at him in confusion but he began to dig through the center console before pulling out a CD with no markings. Sliding into the CD player he grabs my hand once again.

I wait in confusion as to what it was, when Brooklyn Baby began to play. Gee smiled out of the corner of my eye as the song began playing.

“You said it reminded you of us.” He remembered.

I smiled, interlocking our fingers. I was still upset about Dakota and still a bit upset with Gee, but I forgot about that for a second. I looked out the window as we passed the Pantheon, another band playing tonight.

“So when will I get to meet your band?” I asked jokingly.

“Whenever you want,” He responded. “But first let’s talk about the last month we’ve spent together. I’ve got you purring like a kitten despite being completely mortified the first date, I’ve got you to rebel against your Dad and gotten you arrested.”
“I’d say it was a very busy month.” I smiled.

I wasn’t happy about being arrested or rebelling against my Dad, but I wasn’t going to give into pressure anymore. I had been on a craze with being with Gee and now that I had calmed down I was ready to act like a normal person.

Pulling up into the restaurant I got out, going around, taking Gee’s hand and walking in front of Dakota. She didn’t appear happy as she attempted to step on the backs of my shoes. Luckily I had worn boots therefore she was having a tough time pulling them off.

Gee and I sat together with Alison while Todd, Isaac and Dakota sat on the bench across from us. Gee and I shared a menu. I looked over at him, kissing his cheek. I don’t know why I did, but it happened. He smiled over at me, lightly pecking my lips.

“Nasty.” Alison laughed.
“Yeah we’re in public.” Dakota agreed.

I turned to Gee, grabbing his chin and pulling his lips to mine. He seemed surprised but kissed back. The fire returned in my body, one that only Gee could bring. Pulling away he smiled twitching his head to the side before looking back at the menu.

After eating, the six of us got back into the cars and went to the local concert at the Pantheon. I was disinterested, having only eyes for Gee’s band. He appeared the same, looking towards me. He suddenly got a wild smile appearing on his face, tugging me towards his car.

I followed him, sliding into the backseat of his car. He got in, his arms sliding his hand up my leg. He pulled my thigh against his leg smashing his lips against mine. I gasped in shock, but kissed him back. His lips pressing against mine, the hot fire returned, fueling me further.

Gee’s hands slid up my body, pulling me even closer. Gee’s tongue flicked across my bottom lip, making me jump back in shock. Gee laughed, letting his palm cup my cheek.

“It’s okay Eva.” He cooed.

I nodded my head, letting him resume kissing me. Heat rose fast on my cheeks, suddenly I was thankful for it being night. His tongue came back, and this time I opened my mouth, allowing it to roam freely. He came even closer, practically sliding me into his lap.

Gee let out a soft moan, his hand tightly gripping my thigh.

Abruptly, the door is yanked open. Gee and I pull away, breathless to Isaac and Alison who stood right in front of us.

“Are we interrupting something?” Isaac asked.
“No.” I said getting off Gee’s lap and fixing my skirt.

I slid out of the car, seeing that the concert was over and it was time to leave. I crawled into the passenger seat while Gee came along to the driver’s side. He started up the car, driving me back home.

My heart was still beating fast, and my lips slightly swelled. I touched them hesitantly feeling them swelled underneath my finger-tips. I pulled my hand back, alerting Gee. He looked at my lips and laughed.

“Have fun hiding that from your dad.” He said.
“I’ll lie,” I sighed. “I’ll tell him I got into a fight with Dakota and she punched me.”

Gee smiled at me before shaking his head.

“Look at me corrupting you.”
