After Dark

Chapter 04

In the short few weeks I’ve known Gee, he’s gotten the both of us arrested. In all honesty, blaming Gee wasn’t right. It wasn’t his fault; it was the two of them. If I ever see them again, it will be too soon. How they could be stupid enough to believe police would go after an illogical crime, I wouldn’t know.

Neither of us have spoken since that night. After that night, my father forbids me from seeing or speaking with Gee. Of course, that didn’t stop Gee from showing up at school during lunch breaks or coming through my bedroom window at night. Tonight however, there was absolutely no sign of Gee. He hadn’t shown up Lunch like he did almost every day since.

It was hitting 3 AM; I was still up of course studying for finals. I couldn’t sleep, stress was destroying me. I knew I was stressing over nothing, but these finals counted for a lot. Sighing, I pushed myself away from my desk, taking the needle off the record and turning it over.
Abruptly, the bedroom window opened. I was about to scream, until Gee came through the window with craziest smile. The look on his face nearly alerted me.

“What the hell are you doing here!? If my dad finds out he’ll kill you! He hasn’t gone to bed yet.” I scolded.

“Come on! I want to show you something.” He whispered, tugging at my hand.
“Gee I don’t even have my shoes on!” I said as he tugged me towards the window.
“You won’t need them!”

We took off into a sprint across the yard, the memories of the first night we had met coming back to me. I smiled, letting a small giggle escape my lip as we ran towards Gee’s car which was parked a few blocks down.

“Good thinking with the car.” I said out of breath.
“I know right?!” He said scooting into the front seat.
“So where are we going?”

“It’s a surprise.” He responded, the wild smile still on his lips.

I laughed, looking out the window as we took off. It was nice at night, the moon out. Normally, I hated going out at night, but with Gee, it was the best time to be together. All of our strange adventures happen at night. Some of them were better than others. I still hadn’t fully gotten over the men though.

Gee most likely did though. He got over things fast, it was in his nature.

We pulled up outside a lake. I turned to Gee who was already stripping away at his clothes. He stripped down to his boxers then turned to me, leaning against the car with the wild smile of his he gestured for me to strip.

I turned away from him, a blush spreading wildly up my cheeks. I got down to my bra and panties, not yet facing Gee. He came up behind me, one hand moving swiftly across my waist before grabbing my hand. He stared walking towards the dock before stopping at the beginning.

“On the count of three.”

“1…2…3!”

We took off into a sprint again, before jumping into the cold water. It almost instantly woke me up, the cold water contrasting with Gee’s palm still tightly against mine. I swam up to the surface. Gee was already up, a wild smile on his face and laughter spilling from his lips.

Without thinking, I wrapped my arms around him. He responded by wrapping his arms around my waist bringing me close to his chest. His arms were warm, the contrast of the cold water and the heat of his arms. His eyes seemed brighter at night, the pale moonlight illuminating them.

Right now, the moment was perfect. His arms on, the moonlight on us.

The hot feeling of Gee’s skin underneath the palm of my hand continued to keep my heart beating fast. Our eyes met, his hazel eyes shining in the pale moonlight. His grip on waist increased as his breath came out in steady streams.

Water drops hit my hand from his hair. The crickets chirping and the low purr of our breathing. My heart was beating faster than it ever has. Adrenaline from rebellion and Gee coursing through my veins.

“Fuck it.” Gee whispers.

I was ready to ask what, slightly upset he ruined the perfect moment, when his hand slid up my face. Suddenly, his intentions were clear to me. He was going to kiss me. His thumb moved back and forth over my cheek as his face got closer and closer. It was slow, but it was perfect. His lips came slowly onto mine, the slight taste of coffee drawing me in further.

They were utterly soft, adding to his list of growing perfections. He moved slowly, almost opposite to his normal routine with females. His hand left my waist, both hands coming to cup my face and pull me even closer to him.I let my hands came around his torso, holding tightly onto him as we continued to kiss under the moonlight.

Right then, I forgot that I had a final tomorrow. I forgot that tomorrow was bound to be the worst day of my life. I forgot that I was openly going against my father’s wishes. It didn’t matter right now, none of it did. All that mattered was his lips pressed firmly against mine and the taste of coffee and peppermint fueling me.

Unfortunately, the both of us were humans, meaning we needed air.He pulled away slowly, the taste of his lips still fresh on mine. I kept my eyes closed, savoring in the perfect moment. Finally opening my eyes, Gee’s forehead was leaning against mine. His breath coming out in short puffs.

“God damn Eva, What are you doing to me?”

His lips came on mine again but it was merely a small kiss fueled by passion.

We remained close, the wild smile returning to Gee’s lips. His teeth nipped my bottom lip, tugging it. Gee wasn’t the first person I had kissed, but it was the best. The way his lips felt against mine made me dizzy.

Gee let me go pushing away, the wild smile still on his face.

“Come on.” He says, pulling me towards the dock again.

We get out, the wind causing me to shiver. Gee noticed, wrapping his arms around me. Walking us back to his car, he pulled out two towels, wrapping it around my shoulders. Hugging it close to me, we sat in the back of his car. He lit a cigarette, blowing the smoke into the air.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next morning was undeniably, the worst. While I was still floating on ecstasy over Gee and I’s kiss, I had barely gotten any sleep and I knew I had a final to take today. Brooklyn didn’t question my unusually pissed mood, but ignored me the entire ride to school.

I walked into Mr. Collin’s classroom, resting my head on the desk.

“What’s up? You’re usually not too tired when walking in.” He sighed.
“Didn’t sleep well last night.” I said.
“With someone?” He questioned, wiping off the white board.
“Maybe.”

The class filed in, one by one once again. All their eyes trained on me, a low purr of whispers passing through the class. I felt my cheeks heat up, tears threatening at my eyes. They were all staring at me, calling me a criminal.

“How was jail?” One of the girls snickered.
“Get raped?”

I ignored them as best as I could, taking out my notebook and paying as best attention as I could to Mr. Collins. He looked over at my sympathetically, and sighed. He stopped writing notes on the board for a moment, turning to face the class.

“A lot happened yesterday,” He began. “And if anyone wants to keep talking about it, I will send you to office and you will get an F for the day!”

I knew it wouldn’t work. Kids don’t listen; they’ll risk the F just to talk shit.

Remembering Gee’s kiss, I touched my lips. Coffee was all I tasted, the feeling was still there. I smiled, looking at the clock and waiting for Lunch.

Mr. Collins waved to us as we walked out of the class. I had Isaac next class, so it was bound to more entertaining than this one.

It was Chemistry and of course, the teacher gave us a free period due to finishing our finals a few days ago.

“So, why are you tired?” He asks, a smile appearing on his face. I knew he wasn’t going to let me leave without telling him.

“I was with Gee. He came through my bedroom window at three last night. He took us to a lake.” I responded.
“How spontaneous.” He said to himself.
“We kissed.” I said.
“He a good kisser?”

I nodded, smiling like a child. Gee was a whole new type of person. I wanted to kiss him again and again. Nothing was better than the feeling of his kiss. I wondered when I would have the chance to kiss him again.

“I’m coming with you to his show tonight.” Isaac said.
“You are?” I asked.
“Why not?” Isaac said shrugging his shoulders.

I thought of how to begin a conversation, seeing Dakota talking to Maggie Grace across the classroom.

“How are you and Dakota?”

“We’re good.” Isaac smiles. Music coursed through my veins as I stood to the side of the stage watching Gee perform. Isaac and Alison stood beside me. Alison looked like she was enjoying herself smiling at the bassist. Isaac looked confused at Gee as he moved across the stage smiling at some of the girls.

“Look at all these pretty ladies.” He said bending down like he did almost every night.
“I’ve already got myself a lady though.”

His eyes flashed over to me, that wild smile flashing. He began their last song of the night, Desolation Row, as people cheered his name. I knew every lyric by heart by now, and it was never getting old.

“You see him every night?” Isaac asked over the music.
“Yeah, great aren’t they?” I smiled.

Isaac nodded, surprise crossing over his face as Gee belted a high note. I closed my eyes, enjoying this moment.

All too soon it was over and Gee was crossing the stage to me. It was a perfect sight. He smiled, tossing his arm around my waist as we walked off the stage.

“What did you tell your dad?” Gee asks as we walked to his car.
“I said I going to Alison’s.” I smiled.

Gee nodded, smiling and kissing my cheek. I couldn’t stop the heated blush from running up my cheeks. Gee stopped abruptly, sighing to himself and standing in front of me. Confused, I attempted to look over his shoulder. There were the two men from the other night.

“We don’t want trouble.” They said.
“I doubt that.” Gee growled.
“Who are they?” Isaac asked coming beside me.
“Those guys from the other night.” I explained.

I pulled Alison close, her shaking figure staring off at the men. Alison was the weakest of our group, and Isaac and I both knew that. He came beside her, wrapping his arms around her shoulders as she held tightly onto his forearms. I remained behind Gee, clutching his hand as he spoke to the man.

“We just came to see your show Gerard.”

Gee flinched as they muttered his real name, pushing past him and laughing. I felt the urge to spit, irritated and upset that they had had the audacity to show up. I didn’t understand why they wanted too. They had seen him before.

“I’m going to take you home before anything else happens.” Gee said turning to me. Isaac nods, taking Alison’s hand and leading her to his car.

I followed Gee to his, holding tightly onto his hand as they two men’s eyes followed us all the way.

“I fucking hate them.” Gee cursed pulling his seatbelt on.

I nodded, putting my hands in my lap. That didn’t last long though as Gee reached over, grabbing my hand, interlocking our hands. I smiled down, looking at our hands. Gee began driving, turning on the radio.

Lana Del Ray as on the radio, just as he was about to change it, I stopped.
“I like this song,” I stopped him. He looked at me before moving his free hand away and placing it back on the steering wheel.

“It reminds me of us.” I said.

He turned it up taking the long way back home. I scooted over hesitantly, laying my head on his shoulder. To my surprise, he laid his head on mine, sighing in content.

“If all nights could be like this…” Gee trailed off, shaking his head and driving through the city. Nights like this were the best it was clear to me. I shut my eyes laughing to myself and sighing.
“You’re making me crazy I swear to god Eva.” Gee laughed.

“Good or bad?” I asked sitting up to face him.
“Definitely good.”

He pulled up outside my house getting out and opening my door.

“They were all wrong about you.” I said to him.
“I’m glad you see that.”

He walked up with me to the front door, stopping and looking down at our hands.

“Tomorrow’s Saturday. I want to take you out.” He said.
“Where?” I asked.
“Some place nice.” He responded.

He stepped off the porch going back to his car. I took out my keys to unlock the door when Gee grabbed my arm.

“One last thing.” He whispered.

His lips crash to mine, the same taste of coffee returning. I kiss back, letting his sweet taste overwhelm me. Running my fingers through his hair, I pull closer to him.

“Good night Eva.” He whispered.

Notes

The song that reminds Eva of Gee is Brooklyn Baby by Lana. Love the song and really reminded me of the two of them. <3 x
