Just Sleep

My dreams had returned to normal as of late and I hadn't had a nightmare in 5 days. Now that streak of good fortune is gone and I find myself breathing heavily as my caretaker and nurse stand a few feet away from my shaking form. "C'mon sweet heart, let's get some medicine into you okay?" She seems to shift her weight away from me as I shift towards her. I nod solemnly my gaze set on her worn white sneakers now a dirtier color than they were when she had first purchased them. "Here, not too bad since your nightmare wasn't as bad." She smiles softly at me as I down the medicine and reach for her hand. "Thanks you Miss Gladen." I stand and wrap my arms around her arm as we exit my room. I know I look like a mess, but I honestly could care less. "I'm gonna get you ready okay? We have a new guy coming in sometime today and I don't want you to feel bad for not dressing up." She knows I hate greeting new people and dressing up, but I hate having a bad first impression even more. She brushes through my hair and cuts my bangs again so they can hang in front of my face. "Thanks Miss." I smile at her and for the longest time we hold those smiles at eachother. I once again take her arm and we go to the front room to wait. In moments she is gone, whisked away by some unknown task, and I am alone.

I shift uncomfortably as Frank makes his way to my chair as If he somehow recognizes me. Instead of stopping he wanders past me to the television that is mounted on a wall near by to watch the endless cartoons that have played on and on for the as long as I can remember. He surprises me by turning his head and eyeing me straight at my point of vision before he leaves the toom to check out the halls that he would be roaming for who knows how long. I almost wish that I could gather up the nerve to speak to him...almost
