Terrible Things
Chapter One
"Now, Mr Way, the chances of surviving this-"
"No! No, we don't want to hear this, not yet, please" Gerard's mother begged the doctor. Gerard rested his hand on his mother's, giving her a weak smile.
"No, mum. I need to hear this, please.." he turned back to the doctor and nodded, telling him to carry on.
"They're 50/50, Gerard." the doctor's words rang through Gerard's ears. He was hoping it would be a bigger chance, but it was better than a smaller one, he guessed. He heard faint sobs coming from his mother as he was suddenly dragged back into reality as the doctor explain to Gerard and his mum about the treatment he would need. Apparently there was this one place that specialised with that treatment, but it was all the way in Bellville. That was the day Gerard's life changed completely. For better or worse, he didn't know. He could only hope.
*time lapse*
Gerard dragged his feet as he climbed the stairs. Even walking up stairs was becoming a big effort for him now. He panted lightly when he finally reached the top.
"You okay, Gee?" Mikey asked, slightly worried as he watched his almost out of breath brother. Gerard nodded gently before retreating to his room. He closed the door and quickly went to turn his music on. The heavy music blasted out the speakers as he laid down on the bed. He hadn't left the house since they moved there, almost two months ago. Except to go to the hospital. But Gerard didn't really count those trips as "going out". He sighed and dug the palms of his hands into his eyes, frantically rubbing at them to keep himself awake.
"Gerard, sweetheart?" his mother's voice made him jump and almost scream.
"Jeez, mum, you scared me!" he said, trying to steady his breathing. His mum smiled weakly before sitting on the bed in front of Gerard.
"Gee, I think you should go outside, get some fresh air, go for a walk..." she was holding his hands and was staring down at them. He seemed so fragile lately, she was scared of breaking him.
"Do I have to?" he groaned, sounding like a small child.
"You don't have to, no. But I think it will be good for you, it may cheer you up a bit, yeah?" she lightly squeezed his hands, sounding hopeful.
"Okay, fine.." Gerard mumbled and smiled at his mother before she hugged him gently and left the room. He groaned as he pushed himself off the bed and pulled some shoes on. He hated the outside even before everything happened. He wandered down the stairs slowly and stood at the front door. He took a sharp, deep breath in before opening the door. He quite literally hissed when the heat from the sun hit his pale skin.
"Calm down, Gee. It's only the sun... Remember what the sun is?" Mikey laughed at his older brother.
"Tell mum i'll be back a bit later, yeah?" Gerard stepped out the door, listening as it swung shut behind him. He took in a deep breath, taking in the fresh air. He started towards the town centre, not looking forward to being around people at all.
Gerard slumped onto a bench, and watched people rush around him. Why was everyone in such a rush? It made him feel slightly jealous. They were rushing around, desperately trying to get things done, when they have the rest of their lives to do these things. Why can't I have the rest of my life to do stuff? He angrily thought to himself. He shook his head, trying to push the thought out. He suddenly noticed a pair of beaten up black converses in front of him, his head shot up and he quickly found himself staring into two perfectly emerald eyes. He swallowed dryly as he watched the mysterious boys lips curl into a smirk. He had a lip ring and nose ring. His hair was shaved on one side, and bleached. The rest was jet black. He looked around 17 or 18 years old. But whatever age, he was the most beautiful person Gerard had ever seen, and right now he was smirking down at Gerard.
"S-Sorry if i'm interrupting you or something, but I just want to say- uh, I-I like your t-shirt," he gestured to Gerard's Smashing Pumpkin's t-shirt.
"I- uhh, th-thanks," Gerard stuttered, not really being able to concentrate on anything but the gorgeous boy's cute giggle. He quickly took the seat next to Gerard and held his hand out.
"I'm Frank, by the way," he smiled, waiting for Gerard to introduce himself and shake his hand.
"Uh, um.." Gerard frowned at himself, suddenly forgetting how to speak.
"G-Gerard" he stuttered. "Gerard," he said, sounding more confident. He took a hold of Frank's hand and shook it, still staring into his eyes.
"Nice to meet you, Gerard" the sound of Frank saying his name was like music to Gerard's ears. A slight shiver ran through his body at the sound.
"Um, well, I guess I should be going now, it's getting kinda late. I'll see ya around, Gerard" Frank grinned at him and waved as he walked away.
"Yeah, see ya, Frank" Gerard practically shouted back. He could see Frank's face scrunch up a little, he was giggling. Gerard let out a calm sigh. He felt a cold wind hit his bare arms and he shivered. It was getting late. He realised almost everyone had disappeared, so decided to walk back home. He was still in a happy daze from meeting Frank. Hopefully he would be seeing him again.
Notes
What do y'all think? I hope it's okay.. (Sorry for any mistakes)
Happy Gerard is so cute!
I think he won't tell Frank about his illness, and Frank won't probably tell him about his life. ( it would be cool to be able to predict the future) (random thoughts)
Keep going!
xx (:
