Give Me Blood

II

When Gerard came home, there was still nothing for him to do. He could hear his own thoughts echoing throughout his skull in the quiet of his house. They were dominated by his longing for Frank. His fingers were itching to just take out his phone and call him, but he didn't really know what to say. They hadn't interacted in over a year and he regretted it sincerely. He couldn't just call him, out of nothing. It would be easier to just go and visiti him in person but Gerard didn't even know where Frank was right now. If he had internet, he would probably try and google his current location but he couldn't. So he sat down on his couch, staring at the phone in his lap, trying to think of a way to contact his old friend.
A few different approaches came to his mind but he shook them all off, it was useless. Everything he could say sounded so ridiculous in his head. Talking to Frank had never been awkward before. Now it's different, though. They used to be so close but they hadn't seen each other in such a long time. For all Gerard knew, Frank could have changed a lot, he might be a completely different person. He highly doubted this possibility, though. 'Weighted' sounded just like the Frank he knew and adored back then.
Over half an hour had passed and Gerard still sat there, staring at his phone indecisively.
'Fuck it' he muttered to himself, before he unlocked his phone and dialed Frank's number, which he knew by heart. He prayed that the number was still the same and he didn't end up calling a random stranger. That would be embarassing and he also wouldn't have any way to call the one he desired to speak with, then.
He waited with baited breath, suddenly quite nervous, until he was directed to Frank's voicemail, much too soon. He'd declined the call, the motherfucker! But at least he now knew that it was still Frank's number. He didn't leave a message because he didn't know what to say. This was not what he expected to happen. Frank had seen his call and decided not to take it.
Gerard was a bit angry about that, but the hurt outweighed it.
What did he do to deserve this? Was Frank mad at him? And if he was, then why? Had he done anything wrong? Gerard had no idea. True, he had never called and tried to interact before, but neither had Frank. If he wanted contact, he could have called the other man himself. But maybe it's the opposite. Maybe he didn't want contact at all, never again. Maybe Frank had moved on, just like Gerard had tried to. Frank might have forgotten about him, banned him from his life. He didn't wanna think like that, as it was actually a quite sad and depressing thought, but he couldn't help his mind from wandering, desperately trying to find a reason for Frank ignoring him.
It was starting to get dark outside, Gerard hadn't moved from his spot on the couch, still deep in thought. Suddenly and totally unexpected, his phone started ringing, violently snapping him out of his daze, so he almost dropped it in shock. Glancing at the screen, he was very surprised to see he had a call from Frank.
After a brief moment of panic, he picked his phone up breathlessly to answer him.
'Yes?' was all he could say as he accepted the call. (real smooth, Gerard)
'Hi', he heared the familiar voice on the other end of the line. He hadn't realised how much he missed that voice until now that he heared it addressing him.
'It's Frank. You have called me?' It sounded more like a question than a statement, like Frank actually expected him to say it was just accidentally.
'Yeah' Gerard breathed, at a loss for words, his mind racing for something to say. 'Umm, I've been listening to your Album. I love it!' he blurted out, cursing himself immediately after the embarassing outburst.
He could literally hear the smile and the pride in Frank's voice as he thanked him for the compliment.
'Where are you right now?' Gerard asked into the growing silence.
'Oh, I'm on tour with The Used. Actually, we're just about a week away from your hometown. You still live there, don't you? Gosh I haven't heared from you in so long!' Frank sounded really excited to speak to his old friend again.
Gerard chuckled, confirming that he still lived there.
'You should come by! Only if you want to.' Frank gushed. A huge grin spread over Gerard's face as he replied 'I'd love to!' There was a short silence, just about to grow awkward, when Frank excused himself 'Well, I need to go now, see you. I've missed you, Gerard' with that he hung up, leaving a relaxed and smiling Gerard to lean back into the cushions, closing his eyes. His body was already tingling with anticipation. This was gonna be good.
