Give Me Blood

XIX

After they had had breakfast with their respective wives, both Frank and Gerard were pretty shaken. It was too good to be true. Frank, who stubbornly still believed that it was, in fact, not true, wanted to be left alone to think about this whole situation some more.
Gerard, however, had been convinced. He was still not a hundred percent sure and he was definitely the most nervous he had ever been in his entire life but he also felt like he finally needed to take a chance because this uncertainty was driving him crazy. The risk he would be taking by sucking it up and confessing to Frank was still too life-crushing, so he decided he had to be as certain as he could get before he tried anything.
That's why, instead of running straight to Frank to tell him the good news of Lindsey breaking up with him, he went to look for Jamia instead, to talk to her. He had no idea where to find her, though, so he just went back to the bus to start his search there. Unsure whether Jamia or even Frank would be inside, he went to look inside through a window first. There he was, the love of his life, still so very beautiful in Gerard's eyes, even though he'd known him for many years now. He looked troubled as he was pacing the small space between the sofa and the television and appeared to be talking although there was no one else in sight. Something must have upset him. Or someone, as he had been with Jamia just this morning. What could she have said or done to have put Frank in such a state? He longed to just go inside and hug and comfort him but he was on a mission to find and talk to Jamia.
Turning away from the window, he realised with a start that he was being watched. The very person he was looking for was standing only a short distance away, her arms crossed over her chest and a smug expresssion on her face.
'What is up with you?', she asked with a knowing tone to her voice.
'I was just... actually, I was looking for you. But Frank seems. .. is he alright?' Gerard stumbled upon his words.
Jamia giggled. 'He'll be fine, he is just confused. He means a lot to you, doesn't he?'
'That's actually what I wanted to talk to you about', Gerard blushed. 'He does. He means so much. But I was wondering just what I meant to him'. 'Well, you mean just as much to him. You know he values your friendship above anything else', she paused to make him wait a moment and to have a little bit of fun but finally decided she had to get on with it in order to not be cruel. 'That is the only reason he hasn't made a move on you for years', she said and waited for the information to sink in.
'A what!? He- what? Why?', was all Gerard managed to stutter out. Even though this was what he had been waiting and definitely hoping for, it was still too good to be true. 'You're not making fun of me, are you?', he had to make absolutely sure.
'No really, Gerard. I mean it', Jamia answered and in a moment of pure honesty she added, 'I would know. I'm pretty observant concerning Frank. All I ever wanted was for him to look at me the same way he looked at you. That was never really the case. I know he believed he loved me but his feelings for you were always stronger. But you can't help who you fall for, I know that, so I'm not mad at either of you. I will be, however, if you don't get a grip soon and do something about it!'.
Gerard was speachless. Jamia's monologue was very impressive and also straightforward and heartfelt. He believed her. Wholeheartedly, he believed her. She had laid herself bare in front of him to convince him that his love for Frank was mutual.
But what was he supposed to do now? How should he go about it? Knowing that Frank felt the same way as himself didn't change the fact that coming clean was a hard thing to do. Suddenly, there was a loud crash and then the bus door banged open, and in a flash, Gerard was on the floor.
It all happened so fast.
Jamia was suddenly laughing loudly, gasping for air, nearly hysterical.
'The window... hahahaha- it was open... you dumbasses! Hahaha!', she sobbed out, she didn't even know what was so funny about it.
Meanwhile Frank, who was on top of Gerard, attacked his lips with his own in a fast and sloppy, spur of the moment, oh-my-god-my-feelings-overwhelm-me kiss. Gerard was baffled and so very happy at the same time. He looped his arms around Frank's torso and held on tightly, breaking the kiss only to whisper 'I'll never let you go again' in Frank's ear.
'I love you, Gerard', he whispered back, 'I'm not afraid anymore'.
