Blooming

Planted 2

“Poetic.” Lyn-Z commented with an impressed nod.

“I have a lot of time to think.” I sighed tiredly, sitting across from the women. I could tell they wished to ask all at once. I sat down then, hearing the girls laughing in the background.

“Why did you move here?” Lyn-Z asked calmly.

“Father’s work.”

“What does he do?” She asked.

“He’s a business man.” I informed. They nodded.

“So…what’s your mom like?” A flash of anger shot through me at the mention of that woman. But I didn’t show it.

“She’s a character to say the least.” I brushed Alicia’s question off.

“Cryptic much?”

“Why yes, Mrs.Iero. Quite cryptic.”

Christa was staring at me. Studying my face and movements. I bore my eyes into hers, and she flicked brown orbs to my own. “How old are you?” She sounded weak in a way.

“Fourteen. I’m to be fifteen in one week.”

“Fourteen…” She mumbled.

“Why did your parents pick this place?” Lyn-Z spoke again. I settled more comfortably into the spot, and thought out my answer.

“They didn’t.” I said at last.

“What?” For some reason this worried Jamia. Christa still stared at me. It was slightly irritating, but I knew she meant no harm.

“My, our, father decided we would move. The responsibility of moving us fell upon Alec.” A smile winded onto my face. “He consulted Jet and Trev. They remembered how I love old things. Especially houses. They chose New Jersey because out of all the houses they saw, this was the one they thought I would like most.”

“That’s so sweet!” Cooed Alicia. I let out a small laugh.

“Yes, they are quite sweet.” I told.

“Mommy?” I heard a high voice question.

“Yes?” I asked my younger sister.

“Can we go pway in my room?” She grinned up at me.

“Of course.”

Lyn-Z and I grabbed them up in towels, drying them off. They each got a frilly dress, and their hair brushed out. I leaned down to Cali’s level. “Do you know where your room is?”

“Yup!” She announced. The teeny bopper proceeded to grab her newly found friend’s hand, and start out.

“Wait!” I remembered. She turned her big, blue eyes upon me. I grabbed a box of princess band aids, and kneeled once again to the girls levels. I held out four different choices the dark haired toddler. Her eyes lit up, and she immediately grabbed a Jasmine. I gave her a warm smile, which she returned cutely (I noticed vaguely that she had major dimples). I gently took the band aid and smoothed it onto her cut. “Now go play,” I grinned. They ran off, giggling, to Cali’s light yellow room. I stood then.

“Thank you.” Lyn-Z added. I just gave a nod.

“Follow me if you will.” I unplugged the drain, turned, and started down the hallway and gradually, the stairs. The house gave wonderful creaks as each foot step hit. We reached the living room soon enough, having eyes glued to us. I immediately walked to Alec and sat next to him, earning a smile from the young man. “Hey.” I mumbled out to him.

“The kids alright?” He asked aloud, but in such a soothing voice I almost relaxed.

“Better than Barbie, my brother.”
