Saturday

Five

The four of them all stood/sat in a circle, looking at each other in silence. Everyone seemed pretty quiet except for Jamie, who appeared to be the most comfortable of the new group. She walked confidently over to her new bunk and slung her stuff up on the top bunk. Jane watched her, wishing she had as much confidence as Jamie seemed to have. "Well,
I'm out to explore this damned place. Anyone care to join? How about you, pal!" She said and grabbed ray's arm. He looked up at her in shock but followed her out the door in a hurry. So then it was just Frank and Jane once again. She couldn't help but crack a smile. "What is a person like Jamie doing in a place like this?" She said quietly. Frank shrugged. "I think she's hiding her real emotions", he said shakily and crossed his legs on the bunk. Jane nodded and bit her lip. He was probably right. She hid her true emotions, too, but not as flamboyantly as Jamie was. It was admirable.
"Do you want to do some exploring, too?" She asked hopefully and looked up at Frank. He blushed at the eye contact and shrugged. "Sure", he said and hopped down and finally got close enough to examine jane's details. She was surprisingly shorter than frank, which was applaudable. Frank was pretty short for a man of his age. Her face was flawless-- like it had never even heard of the word 'acne'. Plus, she wasn't wearing any makeup either so there was nothing hiding. Just pure beauty. Frank's heart raced a little. "Well let's go", he said anxiously and let her go out first.
Jane looked around at the trees and the lake. "They gave us quite the cabin", she chided and he nodded with a small smile. She noticed a dirt trail to one side that led up into the woods. She pointed to it and gestured for Frank to follow, which he did. They went up through the small trail and walked it side-by-side, Jane constantly looking up at the nature around her. They talked about small things like school and music. To any others the interactions would have seemed awkward and choppy, but to both of them it was pretty comfortable and enjoyable. Eventually they came out from the other end of the trail, which wasn't too far from their starting point. "Let's see more of the camp", Jane suggested, not wanting to go back to the cabin just yet.
So they meandered around the camp for a little while longer. It was actually a very beautiful place, and it was pretty huge. But somehow it was cozy, like a mom-and-pop tourist village. They saw a few kids walking about, probably sight-seeing like Frank and Jane were.
Frank's heartbeat was so unsteady. Walking with Jane, and actually making small talk with her, was an incredible feat for him. especially because she was so pretty. Frank normally froze up around girls. But Jane was different. Wonderfully different.
After about 45 more minutes of walking/'exploring', a horn could be heard from what sounded like the main area of the camp. "I think it might be dinner time", Jane said as she turned around towards the noise. "I haven't eaten anything besides drinking a cup of tea all day", she said and patted her stomach. "Let's go", she said and they walked off together towards the sound of the horn, butterflies continuing to collect in both of the two new friends' stomachs.
