Frank almost dropped his little backpack filled with clothes and his guitar case when he heard the greeting. To be honest he wasn't expecting anyone to be in the cabin yet, so he was startled. He knew the girl, too. Her name was Jane, and yes, they did attend school together. Frank had never talked to her, though. He was too rambly and his fingers were always trembling (except when he played the guitar) and his voice was much too quiet. So he was a loner who didn't have friends. She didn't really, either. Frank was observant of a lot of people during school, and he knew that Jane was somewhat like him.
He looked up and over towards her and nodded, trying to smile slightly. Maybe he could make a friend. "Hi, Jane", he said in a whispery voice. "Hi. You're Frank, right?" She asked softly. Frank nodded and sighed. His hands were trembling and his heart was racing; he didn't talk to people on a regular basis. Even his parents wouldn't talk to him that much. He was positive they sent him here to get rid of him for a month, probably so they could take a vacation.
He surveyed the room, finding it pretty cool. Jane watched as he observed. Frank seemed nice, and super quiet. He paced the room a bit and placed his guitar case down. He threw his back up onto the bunk above Jane and climbed up, laying down on what he'd be sleeping on for the next damn month. "Are you okay, Frank?" Jane asked from the bottom bunk. "Yeah", Frank whispered in reply.
Jane sat on her bunk uncomfortably, feeling awkward with the silence that filled the room between Frank and herself. She picked at the rubber bracelets on her wrist and hummed a little bit. "So you play the guitar, Frank?" She finally said, breaking the unbearable silence. "I do", Frank said, and Jane hinted a little "as a matter-O-fact" in his voice. "You should play it", she suggested, trying to keep the ball rolling. "Maybe tonight", he replied shortly. "Okay", Jane said, cursing herself for letting the conversation end. She finally stood up and paced around the room. Frank turned his head to watch her do so. She was quite pretty. The thought made him blush, but gladly she didn't look up at him for a minute. He noticed the bracelets on her wrist, and he could've sworn he saw bandages underneath. That made his heart sink.
"Why are you here?" She asked suddenly, turning around to face him. He sat up and crossed his legs, shrugging. Then he did something he probably never would've done. He pushed up a sleeve on his red sweatshirt and revealed to her his arm. It was cluttered with hundreds of both old and new scars. "Parents don't care either", he said with a sigh. He looked to her for a reaction but it was plain and simple. She pulled up one of her bracelets to reveal several bandages and bit her lip. "Mine don't either", she said softly.
They made eye contact, both of their gazes filled with pain and depression. Jane nodded. "Frank, I'm pretty sure we're in the same boat here".
