Saturday

Two

Jane walked through the camp. It was cute. There were small log cabins dotted along a twisty path, and in the center there were a few office buildings and a huge fireplace with seats all around it. From there you could see a rather large, rather beautiful lake. There was even a dock you could swim off of and a rack of kayaks.
As Jane was taking all of the scenery in a bunch of other kids were staring to herd over in the direction of one of the office buildings. She got a firmer grip on her bags and strolled over to where everyone else was crowding about. When she got over to the noise, she saw a tall woman with dark hair pulled into pigtails standing on a raised platform, watching everyone come in. There were maybe a hundred kids there, all ranging from probably 15 to Jane's age.
After a few more minutes of waiting the lady at the platform spoke up. She had tattoos and dark red lipstick. Jane couldn't help but think the lady was gorgeous, and how she aspired to look when she was older. "Hi everyone", she said loudly and confidently with a smile. "Welcome to Brighter Futures Summer Camp. I'm Lindsey, and I'm the director here. I made this camp because when I was about your age I dealt with a lot of depression and anxiety. I know most of you here are attending because you're like I was. Now I don't know if we'll make you any happier by the end of the month, but we're going to try. Because I care about you guys. You're literally the future, and we want you guys to stick around so you can lead it, and be the best ones of your generation", she finished with a big smile. There were a few claps. "Now if you see these big signs to my left", she said gesturing to a few large bulletin boards, "you'll find which cabin number you'll be staying in. And don't worry, they're co-ed for a reason. We want to integrate you guys together as much as possible, none of that 'boy/girl shit", she said. Jane was beginning to like this Lindsey character. She seemed really cool, for a camp counselor. "So check these out and make yourselves comfortable. Lunch times and dinner times are posted on the walls, as well as activity times. There aren't going to be many collective activities, either. This is YOUR time, be happy and spend most of it however you'd like", she said with a smile. "And enjoy your stay here at Brighter Futures".
Jane checked out the bulletin boards once the crowd died down. She was assigned to cabin 15. She looked at the map that was on the assignment list and made her way over to it. Cabin 15 was in a nice spot. It was one of the few that were spread near the lake, and there was a windy, beautiful trail one had to take to get there. It was serene. She opened up the cabin door and looked inside. There were two sets of bunk beds, a tiny couch with a TV that appeared to only play DVDs, and a radio. She was the first one there, so she gladly took the bottom bunk near the window with the lake view. She dropped her bags near the bed and sat down on the bunk. It was nice here. Maybe it'd be bearable. Then the door opened and one of her new cabin-mates stepped in, sporting a small bag.
Jane looked at him for a second, and realized who he was. "H-hey, I think we go to school together".
