Eternity Is An Unbearable Thought

There's No Future but Matches and Propane

I flicked the light switch out of habit, forgetting that the electricity had in fact been cut off a while ago. I sighed and went to the kitchen to check on the glass I had set under the faucet last week. The water had been cut off, but the kitchen sink still leaked, in my time of desperation I had decided to place a glass under the leak for when I got thirsty.

Normally, I just sustained my thirst at school, but it was the weekend and I couldn't think of any other way. If I left the house, I would almost certainly be killed. Vampires don't take kindly to humans wandering around after sunset.

I was happy to find that the glass was filled. I swiped up the cup and drank the murky water greedily. Gulping it down quickly. After the water was drained I slammed the glass on to the table, thanking god that it had worked. I sighed and headed for the back door, wanting to see my mother.

Once there, I knelt by her grave. Staring at the freshly turned earth covering her homemade casket. I knew it was crazy but I still talked to her sometimes. She had only been dead for about a month, and I still wasn't accustomed to her absence.

"Hey mom," I greeted, sitting by her makeshift headstone. "I hope you can hear me, and I know I don't believe in a god, but for your sake I hope I'm wrong. It's weird, I kinda miss you nagging on me about grades and chores. I definitely miss your vegetarian lasagna. I hope wherever you are it's awesome, you deserve that. I'm sorry I wasn't the best son, but you know I tried." I paused to wipe away a few tears that had slipped down my face.

"Oh, and guess what. I pulled up all my grades just like you wanted. I'm on the honor roll!" I was sobbing at that point. "I knew you wanted me to do that so bad, and I'm going to do something with myself, trust me. I love you so much, Ma. Just don't worry about me, I think Ray is going to get me a job at the comic book store. It's all going to be fine. I swear. I'm so sorry he killed you. Those stupid fucking vampires, I won't let them take me, I won't." I scrubbed a hand over my face and walked back towards the house.

School was tomorrow. If you couldn't tell, I'm not exactly ecstatic.
~
As I walked into the dreaded school I noticed something seemed off. People were quiet and tense. None of the vampires glared as I walked by, none of the humans were flitting around nervously, everyone seemed still and scared. I found Ray by the locker and decided to find out what he knew.

"Ray, what is going on?" He jumped before realizing it was me, relaxing against the locker once more.

"New kids," he answered simply.

"So, kids transfer all the time."

"Supposedly, they're famous or something," he said, still not making eye contact with me.

"Are they...musicians or something." Ray was doing a poor job of clearing this up.

He finally looked into my eyes. "No. They...they're famous for their power."

"Their what?"

"Well...from what I've heard, they can kill someone by just looking at them," he said quickly and quietly, as if someone was listening.

"Great. Just what we need, more crazy vampires," I huffed, unimpressed with the new students. "Bye Ray."

I walked off towards pysics. Ray was nice, but he was way too accepting with the way people were treated these days. Vampires treated humans terribly. Torturing them and killing them freely, as if we were completely disposable. I kicked a locker in frustration.

I gasped as someone fisted the front of my hoodie, slamming me against the locker.

"Want to tell me why you saw it fit to dent my locker?" He was beautiful. I didn't want to admit it, but everything was perfect. Black hair barely brushing his shoulders, slightly upturned nose, and emerald eyes piercing my own. "Answer me." He slammed me into the locker a second time, by now there was a small gathering of students watching the events transpire.

"Sorry, just frustrated," I answered quietly, I didn't want to end up like my poor mom.

"What's your name fertile?" He tilted his head.

"Fertile...what?" He couldn't think I'm a vampire, could he?

"What's your name. Don't you understand English?"

"Frank," I answered quickly, he seemed pissed. "Human, not fertile."

He looked confused. "What? You're human?"

"Uh...yes. Sorry for your locker." I just wanted to be let down.

He dropped me as the bell rang. I took it as a chance to sneak around him and run to my class.

Notes

So yeah first chapter. This is not my first fanfiction, but I am new to this website. I am trying to spread my stories around and whatnot.

I am currently looking for a coauthor, I have two other stories on Archive of our Own and I'm not sure where to go with them. If you're interested in being my coauthor, message me and we shall figure something out if you want. I'll just check out your writing style and we can go from there.

Chapter title from Pierce the Veil's The First Punch.

Aww hey don't worry about them :) you do you. In a matter of years you won't ever see them again. High school is just a way for people to be jerks. Trust me, I graduated and I didn't give a shit about those people and just focused on my grades :) you can do it, I believe in you.

Anyway, i hope you find peace and upload the next chapter soon!
