Behind Amber Eyes

Do or Die

Party

The four of them had made it to Battery City in one piece. With newfound determination, Party got out of the car, the other three following. There was nothing that was going to stop Party from saving Kobra. He would even die if he had to.

Nothing got past the four men as they made their way to BLInd Headquarters. Every drac they saw, they would shoot it dead. They barreled through the streets at a fast pace. In no time, they were at the front of the headquarters.

"This is too easy," said Party as he noticed there were no dracs guarding the front doors.

"Yeah, Party," said Ghoul. " Too easy. It's probably a trap. We should find another way to get in."

Party spat on the ground. "Trap my ass. I'm going to get my brother." Party swung open the front door and ran up the stairs, the other three having a hard time keeping up with him.

They checked on every floor, yelling Kobra's name. Nobody answered. In fact, the place was so empty, it was creepy.

Eventually, the four of them made it to the floor where Party knew Kobra must be: the experimental zone. He ran down the hallway, calling his brother's name.

"Kobra! Kobra! It's me, Party!" He yelled at the top of his lungs. The other three caught up with him, out of breath.

"Check...rooms...prisoners," gasped Jet, trying to catch his breath. The other three nodded, looking into the separate rooms with the test subjects in them.

"Kobra!" Yelled Party repeatedly. He was getting more and more doubtful by the second. Kobra still hadn't been found, and Party was starting to think that he was gone forever.

At last, he reached the room at the end of the hallway: the only room that hadn't been checked. Party looked inside. There were two beds - and both were empty. He read the label on the window.

Party sood there, eyes wide. His brother was supposed to be there. In that room. But Kobra was gone, probably dead.

"No," whispered Party.

"Don't worry," said Pony, "he might still be alive."

"News flash, Pony, Korse never spares lives!" Snapped Party. He was going to lose it right then. The enemy had taken his brother and killed him. And out of nowhere, he felt a body ram against him and a barrel up to his head.

"Put the gun down," he heard Ghoul say.

"Prove that it's you," he heard a female voice say.

"It's okay, Harley," said Pony, "it really is us."

Party felt the body release it's grip from him. He turned around and saw a sickly pale girl walking towards Pony.

"You need to help us," she choked. The girl whispered something in Pony's ear. He saw Pony's eyebrow raise up. Something was up, and Party wanted to know what it was.

"Where's Kobra?" Party asked, his voice wavering slightly. Then, the girl turned around. Party instantly recognized her. How could he forget those beautiful amber eyes?

"Shock?" He asked.

Harley

"They came! We need to go out there!"

"No, Kobra. We don't know if it's really them or just androids. I'll go out and check-"

"We are both going."

"No," said Harley. "You are in no condition to go fight. It's for your own good."

Kobra looked hurt, but he nodded for Harley to go out.

Silently, she opened the door. As she suspected, the killjoys were there, crowding around her room. She crept as silently as she could towards them. She had no weapon, so she would have to steal one from a killjoy. Jet was the closest, so she opted with him.

In a flash, Harley grabbed Jet's gun and ran herself into Party.

"Prove that it's you," she spat.

"Put the gun down," she heard someone say.

"It's really us, Harley," she heard a familiar voice say. She turned around and say Pony.

"You need to help us," choked Harley. She walked over to Pony and leaned in to whisper. "Kobra is dead, but something strange is keeping him alive. He has no pulse and he can barely walk." She backed away from Pony. As she expected, Pony looked shocked.

"Where's Kobra?" She heard Party ask. Harley turned around to him. Party looked surprised to see her. "Shock?" He asked.

"It's me," sighed Harley.

"What have they done to Kobra?"

Harley sighed and looked at her hands. "This way," she said, leading them to the closet. Kobra was there, sitting on the floor.

"Party?" The younger man asked. Party helped Kobra up and held him in a tight embrace. Harley saw Kobra wince at the tightness of Party's hug. His chest wasn't ready for that much pressure.

Harley opened her mouth to speak, but then she felt arms wrap around her.

"Gah," she moaned as the grip on her tightened. She looked behind her to see Ghoul.

"What's the matter? Did you forget about me?" He purred. Harley rolled her eyes and tried to pry Ghoul's arms from her frail body. With every attempt, he tightened his grip. Harley eventually gave up and hugged back, causing the little man to jump with surprise.

Everyone was hugging eachother then, and crying like there was no tomorrow. Harley felt so many emotions bubbling inside of her. She was so happy that they were saved, yet she was scared. They weren't free yet. Korse was still alive, and as long as he was, there was no escaping him.

Harley managed to free herself from the arms of Ghoul then as she stumbled to the end of the hallway.

"What's wrong?" She heard Ghoul ask. All honesty, she didn't know what was wrong, she just felt unusual.

"I don't know," she answered. Ghoul sat down next to her and put his arm around her.

"We are going to get out of here and live normally, away from Korse, away from Better living Industries. You can come with us, too."

"Step back," Harley said. She didn't know why she said it, but it slipped out. Ghoul looked at her questioningly but he obeyed. Harley stood up and grabbed Ghoul's gun.

"Hey! Give that back."

Harley just turned away from him. She couldn't help it. She had no idea what was going on.

"Kobra!" She screamed. "It's happening, he's controlling me!"

Harley was holding the gun up to her head now. Korse was going to make Harley kill herself. She saw Kobra and the others stumbling towards her.

"MAKE IT STOP!" She shrieked. She didn't want to die. Not like this. Party's hand was at the gun, trying to loosen the grip, but nothing worked. Tears were streaming down Harley's face. This was the end for her.

With one last effort, Party yanked on Harley's hand, causing her to pull the trigger. She closed her eyes, but the bullet didn't hit her. She opened her eyes to see where it went. Instead, she saw Jet, holding his chest, blood spilling around his hands.
