Falling In Love With A Teacher Is The Least Fun A Teenage Boy Can Have Without Taking His Clothes Off

Words, Wars, & Symphonies

Lyn-z jumped when I knocked on window of her door, yelling, "oh shit!" She pouted when I covered my mouth as I laughed. "Fuck you, I thought you were gonna kill me or something." She pressed a button and the door opened. I swung in and plopped down in the passenger seat. "What happened, aren't you supposed be in detention with Gerard?"
"He had to leave for some reason," I sighed, running a hand through my hair. She tilted her head to the side in confusion and I shrugged. "I don't know. He got a text from someone and insisted he had to leave." She hummed in response.
"Weird." She reached forward, turned the key in the ignition, and the car roared to life. She pulled out of the parking space and out of the parking lot of the school. "So, you said earlier you're not from here." It sounded more like a question than a statement.
"Yeah, I'm from Kearny, just a few miles away. I moved here a few months ago to live with my friend 'cause money was tight."
"You'll love it here. I've only lived here for a few years- I'm from Scotland- but it's a quaint little town."
"Scotland?" Who the hell would move all the way here from Scotland?
"Mhmm. Well, I mean- I was born there, but I moved to Connecticut when I was 5. I eventually moved to New York and stayed there for a few years. But I realized that I didn't want the spectacular life Manhattan was offering me, so I came here." I nodded, not really sure of what else to say. The awkward silence carried on until she turned onto a busy street. "So, I dunno if you have already been here, since you've only been in the great town of Summit for a little while, but this is Main Street. It's kinda just a strip of stores and restaurants." She parked her car in front of a coffee shop. The sign above the canopy read "Copper Star". As soon as I stepped foot in the little shop, I was met with the strong smell of coffee. I nearly moaned. Have I ever mentioned how much I love coffee? I drank all of the coffee Ray gave me this morning by the time I got to the school and the coffee they had in the teacher's lounge was terribly watered down. A waitress with dark brown hair immediately approached us, but instead of taking our order or something, she hugged Lyn-z.
"Oh, hun, how was work?" the waitress asked as she pulled away from the embrace.
"It was pretty good. I mean, the greatest it can be for all your 'apprentices' being snooty teenagers." The two laughed, and suddenly Lyn-z gasped and grabbed my arm to pull me closer to the waitress. "This is my co-worker, Frank."
"Nice to meet you!" she chirped as she shook my hand. "Name's Jennifer, but you can call me Kitty." I smiled courteously. Kitty? Strange nickname. "You two can go sit, I'll take your order once I deal with him." She pointed behind her to an angry-looking man at the counter. "He's fuckin' pissed that we got his order wrong. Now go on, kiddies." She shooed us away with her hand. We decided to sit at a table outside.

"Is Kitty your uh--"
"She's just my friend," she interrupted, apparently knowing what I was about to ask. "I moved here because she recommended it while I was still in the big apple.
I nodded. "And, if you don't mind me asking, what's your tattoo of?" She stretched her arm out toward me, bending it at an awkward angle so I could look at it all. I grazed my fingers over the swirls, feeling myself smile a bit. I love tattoos, alright? And tattoos + pretty hot girl = happy Frank.
"Havin' fun there?" A voice broke me out of my daze of sorts. I looked up to see Kitty standing there laughing with Lyn-z. "I-I..." She wiped tears from her eyes. "I'll take your order now."
"Two black coffees, please," Lyn-z answered for me. Kitty nodded as she wrote that down, then turned on her heel and back into the shop. I opened my mouth to ask her how she knew, but she cut me off. "I just had a gut feeling."
"Hmm, pretty girl with psychic abilities to know how people take their coffees. Win-win."

I didn't realized what I had just said until her cheeks turned bright red and she stared at me like a deer in the headlights.

"Oh, I-I-- I didn't mean to say that!" I could feel my face heating up. "Well, I mean, yo-you are pretty but-"
She reached over and pressed a finger to my lips. "Shush."
I settled down in my seat, wanting to curl into a ball. "I-I'm sorry."
She shrugged. "You're pretty hot yourself." Her eyes flickered over to me and she smiled. "Aw, you're blushing!"
"I just..."

Suddenly, someone walked by. Their shoulder-length black hair covered their face, but I could tell from the way they carried themselves that it was Gerard. Smoke billowed out from his lips and a still-burning cigarette hung between his fingers. What was he doing here? He passed by us without a word.
"... Frank?"
I stood up, my eyes still on the teen walking the opposite way we came. "That's Gerard," I told her simply. She scoffed.
"That's Mikey's brother? No way. He doesn't look like some addict." Without thinking, I started to follow him, but a hand wrapped around my wrist stopped me. "I don't think that's a good idea. Leave him alone."
But something in my gut told me to follow him. So I shook my arm from her grip and started to follow him, a few yards behind so it wouldn't look suspicious.

He seemed to know where he was going. I followed him all the way to a seemingly abandoned park. He threw stubbed the cigarette into the grass before jumping over a small creek dividing the park from a forest. He apparently had no idea I was behind him. I watched Gerard stumble through a bit of the trees before kneeling down in front of a particularly short one. It wasn't until then I realized that he was shaking like a leaf. It looked like he was on the verge of tears. I called out his name, but he seemed to be in a daze and didn't even flinch. Then, he pulled out a rope.

Oh fuck, Ray told me about this forest, didn't he? The popular suicide spot?

"Local loner found hanged in forest infamous for suicides," he whispered. "Wonderful headline."

I ran as fast as I could over to him. "Don't!" I grabbed his arm and forced him to turn around and face me, snatching the rope from his hand.

"Mister Iero?"

"Gerard, listen to me," I said in a rush, completely shocked as to what I just witnessed. "I don't know what drove you to do this, but suicide is not the answer." He shoved me away, but I gripped his wrist still. "Look me in the fucking eye, Gerard!"

He hesitantly turned his head to me, his lips pursed.

"Don't kill yourself, please. I would rather not attend my own student's funeral. You have so much to live for, Gerard."
"No one's going to miss me," he told me, his voice barely above a whisper, "Mikey told me."
"Mikey is a fucking asshole. Sure people are going to miss you! What about your parents, your friends?"
He scoffed. "Really? You think I have friends?" He laughed when I raised an eyebrow in confusion. "You haven't heard the whispers in the halls as I pass by? I'm just the fucking wrist-slitting fag that everyone hates! And neither of my parents give a shit about me. If they did, they wouldn't be gone for 330 days a year." He yanked his arm away, taking a few steps back. Tears lined his eyes, but didn't spill.
"Gerard--"
"JUST LET ME DO ONE THING RIGHT!"

I grabbed him by the sleeve and pulled him into a hug. He froze and first, but after a few seconds leaned into it. He gripped my shirt as he sobbed into my shoulder. I stroked his hair as I cooed encouraging things into his ear, "it'll all be okay." A few minutes passed until he finally spoke.
"You're a teacher and you just cussed in front of me," he murmured.
I chuckled and pulled away from the hug. "Now how about I take you home?" His eyes widened.
"No, no, not home. Mikey's home," he answered frantically and he waved his hands around for emphasis. I nodded, chewing on my lower lip. The only other idea I had then was... my house. I don't know how happy Ray would be with me bringing home some kid. Well, I mean, he wasn't some kid, he was my student. But regardless, he might get mad.
"I'll take you to my house," I sighed reluctantly. Gerard smirked a bit. "C'mon, let's go." I grabbed him by the hand and we started walking out of the forest. I pulled out my phone and opened Lyn-z's texts.

You and Gerard okay?

"Yeah, I just overreacted, he was walking home" I lied. "But my roommate just called and said he needed help with something at the house, whatever that is, so I can't come back. Sorry."

Aww :( See you tomorrow?

Definitely.
