Never Let Them Hurt You

Chapter 16

(Gerard)

For a while I sat there, thinking. I had to stand up eventually because I could hear Annabelle through the doorway, crying. It was pretty quiet but, it's just another peachy perk of vampirism. Acute eyesight and hearing. In this situation it didn't help, though. I walked away from the bedroom and paced around the house, still thinking. How could I save my precious Annabelle from being scared of me? Think, Gerard. Think! Maybe I could take her out. No. That's a horrible idea. The other vampires would pick her fear up right away, then they'd probably find out she was human. Could I get her something at least? Then I had a thought. She seemed to love the flowers in the garden near the lake yesterday. I could do that.
I stood up and quickly walked toward the front entrance. "Annabelle if you care to know, I'm going out to get you a present because I think I love you and I am the biggest pile of shit ever. I'll be back soon!" I called through the house in the direction of the stairs. There wasn't a reply. I sighed and opened up the door, jingling my car keys as I walked towards my car. I hopped in and drove off towards a hardware store. They had a nice big greenhouse located at the store and from what I've heard the flowers there are pretty good. Not that I talk about flowers often, but the subject came up once or twice at a bar somewhere.
I arrived at the big greenhouse and walked in. The person at the cash register smiled at me and I nodded to them, proceeding on into the greenhouse. After maybe half an hour I chose five pots of lavender and purple blooms. They were beautiful, and I determined them to be perfect for my Annabelle. I paid for them and the cashier offered help. "No, thank you", I replied and she smiled, showing her teeth-- and her fangs. "You don't seem the type who buys flowers", she said sarcastically. "They're for a girl... I'm gonna tell her I love her", I said and blushed. She laughed and wished me luck and soon I was on my way out. Then I had another idea. I drove over to the mall next, and once there I headed inside, looking for a jewelry store. I stopped in at a Kay jeweler and the clerk there helped me pick out a small necklace. It was silver and it had a charm on it in the shape of a bell, and it was encrusted with diamonds. "Her name is Annabelle... So it's pretty suiting", I said chuckling. I paid for it and thanked the clerk. After that I was rushing home, to get to my Annabelle.
Once I was home I brought everything inside. I went to the kitchen and made a small breakfast for Annabelle. Once I was done I put it on a tray along with the necklace box. I took one of the flower pots in a hand and held the tray in the other and went upstairs. "Annabelle?" I asked as I slowly opened the door, my heart pounding as I stepped in, ready to show my Annabelle a genuine, Gerard Way apology.
