You're Not In This Alone.... The Only Hope For Me Is You.

Escape From This Afterlife.

"You're dead Sera, you died in my arms."

Serafina kept hearing Gerard tell her she was dead. It had been about a week but the entire scene kept replaying over and over in her head. She was so excited to see him, even going as far as pinching herself in the moment because she couldn't believe her eyes. As she starred out into the court yard she watched as the people of the asylum got on. Penelope was hanging around China and Gerard was no where to be seen. It had been like this since she saw him though, she hadn't seen him for two weeks. She wanted to, she needed to.

"Are you okay?"

Serafina jumped a little as she looked up at the very tall, very thin man. "I, yeah, I'm okay. Thank you."

The man sat down next to her. "Hi, I'm Oliver." He said smiling reaching out his hand for her to shake.

"Serafina." She grabbed a hold of his hand and smiled back. He was handsome, he had piercing eyes and a head full of brown hair.

"That's a very pretty name, why are you sitting here by yourself?" he asked as he released his grip.

"I'm just thinking, this is one of the best spots out here. I'm in the shade, and I can just watch everyone interact with each other. It's calming." It really was a great spot, there was a huge tree that drooped a little causing quite a lot of shade from the sun. It gave her something to lean against, and it also gave her some feel of protection. Serafina always felt grounded around trees.

"MM." Oliver said leaning back on his hands. "Well do you mind if I sit here with you?" he looked at her over the side of his shoulder.

Cracking a tiny smile she answered, "Actually, I don't mind.." leaning back against the tree she continued to watch the court yard as Oliver told her a little about everyone out there. She found out that he had been there since he was 10 and that he was now 25. They were talking about things they liked and things they disliked when Serafina noticed someone walking along the wall. Oliver was still talking as she kept her complete attention on whoever was tracing the wall. She hadn't seen him out here earlier, granted she didn't see Oliver either until he came over.

"Um, Oliver. Who is that?" She asked pointing across the courtyard.

"Who's what?" He asked looking at her.

Serafina turned her attention to Oliver. "There's a blonde boy walking along the wall over there. I've never seen him." looking back at the wall, the boy had seemed to disappear. "He was just right there, did you see where he went?" She asked frantically.

"I didn't see anyone Serafina." Oliver said leaning back in his hands again looking up at the tree. "It's okay, sometimes I see things too." He said as he started to hum a somber tune.

Serafina wondered around the dining hall. If she stayed on one of the low security halls, she could sit down at one of the grand tables and eat with other people. For the life of her she couldn't understand why she would be on the hall that she was on in the first place. Penelope said that everyone on the hall were killers, but Penelope didn't kill anyone and neither did she. None of her questions had any answers and that upset her.

"Serafina, why are you in here?" The voice called from behind her.

"Oh Ronnie, you scared me half to death." she paused, half to deathapparently she was already dead. The thought scared her a little. "I was just looking around."

"But you know you're not supposed to be over here, you're allowed in the court yard but definitely not in the dinning hall." Ronnie walked up to her, tapping on her arm slightly. "Let's get you back to your room." he waited for her to start walking as he followed closely behind her.

"Ronnie..." Serafina said quietly. "How come Gerard doesn't come out?"

He sighed, "Gerard doesn't leave his room much.."

"I just want to see him..." She said quietly to herself.

Ronnie opened up her door so she could walk into her room. "We have rules and guidelines in place so you don't hurt yourself. You have to follow them or disciplinary action will be taken place, you do understand that right Serafina?"

She nodded and sat on her bed. "I'm sorry."

"I'll come check on you later." Ronnie said, closing the door back.

Serafina laid on her bed listening to Ronnie's footsteps as he walked away. They echoed as he made his way down the hall. They treated her like a child who was unable to do anything for herself and she hated that. Closing her eyes she fell back onto her pillow. Serafina started to hum which slowly picked up to her singing. "Is it worth it can you even hear me? Standing with your spot light on me, not enough to feed the hungry. I'm tired and I felt it for a while now." She slammed the bottom of her fist into the concrete wall beside her bed. Wincing, she lifted her hand again and slammed it back into the wall. She could feel the bones crunching as she lifted her fist again and slammed it back into the wall. " And won't you think I'm pretty, when I'm standing top the bright lit city." She knew she broke her hand, she wanted to break her hand it made her feel better.

Serafina laid in her bed, Ronnie had stopped by maybe an hour or two ago and locked the door. It was lights out. The room was eerily dark as the only light coming in was from the barred window between the girls beds. Penelope was fast asleep, only mumbling every once in a while. Serafina laid in bed for hours with her eyes closed but she couldn't sleep, she was too focused on the screaming that echoed through the walls. She needed to get out, she needed to walk around. She needed to leave here, she knew that wasn't possible but it didn't make her want it any less. She missed her mother and she missed her bed.

The sound of scraping metal made Serafina jump. Her breath caught in her throat. She had tried to pretend to be asleep before she saw anything she wouldn't be able to forget. Turning on her side to face her wall, she promised herself to not open her eyes no matter how close the sound would get. Thinking of anything but the sound of the metal, Serafina dived herself in one of her favorite memories of her family. Christmas. She couldn't remember a lot from her childhood, it was like whole parts were missing as if they never happened but she could vividly remember the Christmas, the year before her father died. They had just moved into their new house, and her mother had decorated everything the night before Christmas Eve. She remembered the smell of pumpkin cookies and hot chocolate. She remembered the smell of peppermint candy canes and she remembered the smell of eggnog. She remembered her father in the silly reindeer shirt her and her sister had picked out for him and she remembered everyone opening their gifts.

Serafina was jolted from her thoughts as she heard banging on her their door. Her heart started to race. Squeezing her eyes tight, she pulled her blanket above her head. Her father always told her that monster's couldn't hurt you if you couldn't see them and she had always believed him. She'd see things all the time as a child that no one could see, and everyone except her father told her that they weren't real but she knew they were real because she could see them.

"Serafinaa" She heard something say in a sing song voice, scared she held her breath. "Serafinaaaa." The banging picked up when the voice noticed she wouldn't turn around. "Serafina." The voice got more aggressive, yelling her name as the banging continued.

"NO GO AWAY!" Serafina yelled. "PLEASE GO AWAY!"

"Oh Seraaaaaa!" The voice continued to to taunt. "We only want to talk to you." the voice started to laugh.

"NO NO NO, GO AWAY. LEAVE ME ALONE!" She screamed as something grabbed her and started to shake her. "PLEASE NO MORE!"
