Best Friends Forever, But Not Now

Turn the Lights Off, Carry Me Home

Frank and I didn’t show up to band practice until 3 in the afternoon since we’d overslept. We slept in until noon, an hour after practice had already started and our bus was supposed to hit the road at 4.

“Gerard! What took you so fucking long?! We have to hit the road in half an hour so that we can get coffee and snacks!” Mikey yelled. “I realize you’ve got engaged people things to do, but this bus can’t always wait for you!” I rolled my eyes at him.

“We overslept, you guys do it too. We have our bags in the trailer, our food was already purchased, I don’t see the big deal?” Frank commented.

Frank pulled me towards the trailer, his day pack in one hand, my arm in the other. It wasn’t in the lustful-ish way he would do it in around 2005, but more of a “pissed off and sleepy” way. It reminded me of how amazing it was to fall in love with someone, because you never know which version of them is the best; the sleepy, wants to cuddle version, the hyper, let’s go to dinner version, or the version that is fulfilling their passions, or maybe all of them. That’s what I really loved about Frank, he showed all of them at the same time some days.

“Gee, you’re spacing out!” He shouted. “EARTH TO GERARD!”

“What? Sorry.” I blushed, looking towards him. “What were you saying?”

“The guys picked our bunks for us.” He laughed, signalling to the fact that his was directly above mine. “These guys are fucking children.”

I laughed along, about to fall asleep. “I’m going back to sleep if I can’t get coffee soon.”

Frank laughed, grabbing his bag and pulling out two mugs, coffee grinds, and a french press. “Go fill these with water and put ‘em in the microwave…”

I nodded along, taking the mugs to our cooler, where water sat in plastic bottles and filling them. I handed him the water and he filled the press, causing the coffee to fill the press. He handed me one of the mugs, kissing my cheek. We drank the coffee in silence, occasionally talking about the tour and what we wanted to do in what cities.

We finished our coffee after a while and crawled down to my bunk to hang around.

“What time is it?” Frank asked me. “No, seriously, the actual time.”

“It’s 6:09 and we’re about 20 miles past Eugene, Oregon. We stop in Portland in half an hour.”

“This place have any diners? Or do I have to deal with what we’ve got?” He pouted.

“Just wait a few more hours. Portland’s not too far…”

Frank groaned, searching through the cupboards for a decent meal. “Ray, I’m taking your cheetos!”

“Get your short ass outta my cheetos!” Ray yelled.

“Too late!” Frank stuck his tongue out at Ray, eating the chips.

Frank ate about a quarter of the bag and decided it was enough to satisfy his until around 10:00, when our concert would end.

The concert was amazing, as always. Frank jumped all over the place, I did whatever it is I do on stage, and the guys looked pretty pissed almost the entire concert, but then again, Mikey and Ray always look either pissed or thrilled while on stage.

We got off stage, and we went to some hipster-ish diner in the area that served late night pancakes since that was all Frank had wanted. We ate, we laughed, we paid, and we left. Frank and I were exhausted and went to bed almost immediately. He decided that he wanted to sleep in my bunk with me for the night, and so I let him.

Notes

Sorry for the shortness/crappiness of this but I wanted to update again tonight. The next chapter will be the 30th, and we're gonna end by 40/50. I may or may not do a sequel, but I'll update y'all on that later.

I agree that you should do what you want to do, and I will still read it. Also I would definitely read your story on the black parade.
