Saving the Fabulous Killjoys (DISCONTINUED)

Chapter 23: I'm drunk, I suppose

Jet Star

I helped Dr. D wrap up Pink’s ribs and inject the last of the medicine. If she made it to tomorrow, she would be alright. I then carried Party to one of the rooms and shut the drapes. He needed all the rest he could get. There was only one last problem to take care of… and I saw him when I looked away from the curtains.

“John… you don’t have to serve Korse anymore. He’s dead.”

John’s eyes were wild. They kept darting between me and Party. Then, just Party.

“I have to… kill him.”

“JOHN!”

I intercepted him and fought him to the ground.

“He’ll kill me! He’ll kill me!” he screamed hysterically.

“You’re CRAZY! He’s dead!”

Party murmured something, and then yawned. “Jet… what’s with all the…”

I tightened my grip on John’s shirt as he tried to get up again.

“What’s going on… Jet… my head…”

I was half aware of John, half looking at Party. He was looking at his hands with a sort of strangeness.

“Am I…. awake?”

I pinned John to the ground.

“Since when do I have… six fingers on my right hand… Fun… Star?”

“GUYS! GET YOUR COLORFUL ASSES OVER HERE! PARTY’S LOST IT!”

He rolled off the bed and landed on the floor with a muffled thud. He kept trying to sit himself up, but his limbs were clumsy. All the while, he kept saying things that made no sense at all. He spoke to me as if I were his mother, then confused me with Kobra and finally, thought I was him, and he was me.

Kobra shuffled into the room with Cherri. As soon as they saw Party, they lifted him and placed him on the bed. He screamed.

“Who… are you?! Let me go!”

Kobra shook him. Hard. “Wake up, Party. What happened?”

“I need to go to the deli…” Party mumbled “Mom expects the milk… I’m late…”

I saw Kobra put his hand on the side of Party’s neck.

“High fever.”

There were noises from the courtyard. The teenagers. Laughing… playing… oblivious that the man who had saved them was lying on a bed, probably dying. I thought about turning John over to them, so that they could rip him to shreds. The traitor. He tried to get out of the lock I had him in, but whimpered at the pain. “What did Korse do to Party, John. Don’t lie to me. I won’t trust you like Fun Ghoul did.”

“He had it planned… it was all a plan… you think that it’s over? Just because he’s dead?” he then let out a crude and short laugh “He planned all of this. Even told me how I was going to die… I am going to murder Party Poison, then shoot myself.”

“Stop it. Nothing is going to happen.”

He began laughing again. A laugh that sent shivers crawling down my spine. I looked up at Kobra. He was holding Party down. His eyes were wide with fear.

“He’s breaking us apart. Even in death.” He said “Party’s going nuts, Fun Ghoul’s dead, Pony hates himself… we can’t go on like this… it’s a matter of time before someone does something stupid… like…”

We were all looking at Party. His grip was tight on Kobra’s arm and he was looking directly at the wall.

“Party,” Kobra’s voice was desperate “What are you seeing?”

He didn’t answer. He looked straight at the wall for a few seconds, then turned more pale that he already was. He looked at Kobra. Then, at Cherri. His eyes rolled to the back of his head and he fell back again. Kobra shook him, but he was knocked out cold.

“Get Dr. D in here.”

His words were icy cold. Cherri nodded and ran out. In a few seconds, she wheeled in Dr. D. Missle Kid also darted to the bed.

“Not. Party. Not. Party. He can’t die. Not. Party.” She turned to Dr. D “You have to fix him.” It wasn’t a question.

Dr. D nodded and wheeled closer. He then began to look at Party’s hands and face. When he opened Party’s eyelids, we could see his extremely dilated pupil.

“He was hallucinating… that explains it. Did he say anything?”

I pushed John down once again. My arms were getting tired. This guy was strong.

“He kept confusing me with different people. He then fell from the bed and forgot who we were completely.”

“Oh dear.”

“WHAT DO YOU MEAN, OH DEAR?!” we all said, at exactly the same moment.

“I just meant the bump on his head.” Dr. D said, pointing to the red lump on Party’s forehead “The drug in him should wear off soon… in about… nine hours or so…”

My muscles tightened then and John wrenched himself away. Everyone was too absorbed in their thoughts to notice. I could distinctly feel him trying to pry my fingers from his shirt. I came back just in time to grab him before he was able to get away. Everyone looked towards us when I hit him against the wall.

“What are we going to do with him.” I said; my voice flat.

“Kill him.” Kobra said, without hesitation “Just keep his blood off the floor. I’ve had enough for the day.”

Party Poison

My mind was scrambled. The words kept coming out all wrong. I tried to ask for some water and ended up talking about bullets. I tried to lift my hand, and ended up blinking. Nothing made sense. The world seemed upside down.

Then, I saw it. On the wall. All over the wall. Blood. Dripping with blood. Blood was running down the wall as if it were water. Slowly, pouring into the room. Black blood. Thick and messy.

“Party, what are you seeing?”

I looked at Kobra. His eyes were completely black and that expired blood dripped down his face too. There was a long slit across his throat that was dripping the gooey, black stuff. I looked at Cherri. She blinked. Every time she did, paranoia grew inside me. I tried to scream when I saw my brother put his hand to his neck and begin to pull flesh back, slowly. But it wouldn’t come out. Instead, it echoed inside my head until I couldn’t stand it anymore.

I got up from the bed and began to walk down the dark hallway. Kobra had been stationed near my bed, but he was a heavy sleeper. My footsteps echoed. The floor felt warm beneath my feet. Shadows danced on the walls. They beckoned to me; spoke my name. There was a light pain in my arm… as if something was pulling on it. I looked. It was nothing… I turned the corner and the floors seemed to light up in the moonlight. Kind of like… a parade… I got the urge to sing.

When I was a young boy, my father took me into the city to see a marching band…

The words got stuck in my throat, though.

The halls seemed to stretch on forever. They were filled with… roses. The more I walked, the further it was to get to the door that seemed to be illuminated. Whatever I was looking for… it was there. Suddenly, I was already at the door. I blinked and put my hand on the knob. It was boiling hot. I pulled away and tried again. This time, I succeeded in getting the door open.
A room full of machines. I stepped in. someone was on the bed. I got closer. It was…

Korse.

I pointed my gun at his head. The world had begun to spin and waver. His eyes shot open and then turned to me. He wasn’t moving. He was… trembling. ‘The real Korse would never tremble’ my mind screamed. Then, he said my name. Only, it wasn’t his voice… it was Pink’s.

Slowly, my vision came back. I found that the gun that was meant for Korse, was being pointed at Pink’s head instead.

“Party… is it really you this time?”

I tried to nod, but my head was frozen. Somehow, I had gotten on my feet and was all the way in the infirmary. The IV’s were trailing right behind me… pulling at my arms. Pink was silently observing me.

“How did I…”

“You were hallucinating.”

“Why didn’t you scream.” My voice was thick.

She was silent. My head throbbed and she forced me to sit beside her.

“What happened to you, Party?”

I was looking out to the hallways.

“Where did the roses go…? I liked them…”

“Party… can you hear me?”

Thoughts raced in my head like nothing I had ever experienced before. The room became pink all of a sudden… and then, yellow. I was back home.

The sweet smell of mom’s cooking filled the air as the whole family came over. They smiled… I smiled.

“Aunt Elena!”

“Hello, sweetheart!”

Her cheeks were a bright red as she came over to me with a huge present.

“Happy Birthday!”

I shook the box, and then tore off the wrapper. A… boom box? I looked up to a desert. Everyone was gone…. And I was as hot as hell. My skin was clammy… my sweat cold.

“Party. Dr. D’s here! Wake up!”

A jolt brought me into reality. A room of worried faces.

“Nice tie, Dr. D.”

My head was on fire. There was something on it… something damp.

Things began to swim in my vision. Colorful things.

“Dr.D! Do something or we’ll lose him again!”

“Whatever it is, it’s IN him! I can’t do anything yet!”

He began shaking me.

“Party. We’re going to take some blood.”

A sharp pinch. I looked at the tube as it began to fill with colors. I gave a light laugh and Pink pulled me closer to her.

“YES!” I crowed “I have colorful veins! Put a crown on me ‘cause I’m a fucking princess!”
