Blast it to the Back Row

*Jet Star's POV*

"Bye guys!" Grace and I waved as the others headed out on a run. I turned to her and ruffled her messy hair.
"Daaad!.." She whined, swatting at my hand ".. Stop messing with my do!"
I laughed as we headed inside. She went to sit down in one of the cracked leather booths, but I stopped her before she could reach it "Hold up squirt.." She frowned at me, but waited to hear what I was going to say ".. I realised something last night"
"What did you realise?" She asked, sounding bored.
"That its Christmas!" I grinned.
"What?.." She looked shocked and confused ".. But no one celebrates that anymore dad.. Not since the bombs!"
"I know!.. But I thought It'd be nice, to have like, a little party, just the five of us.. What do you think?.. There's an old box of decorations out back, and we got a couple bags of potato chips, and a bottle of vodka for us grown ups!.. We can sing Christmas songs, and play games!.. So what do you reckon?.. You in?"
Grace looked at me thoughtfully for a minute, then nodded "Ok dad!.. I'm in!"
"YES!.." I cheered, picking her up and spinning her round while she giggled and begged to be put down ".. Ok.." I began, setting her back on her feet ".. Let's get this done before they get back.. It'll be a surprise!"
Grace nodded, a happy smile on her face as we set about decorating the diner with coloured tinsel and Christmas ornaments. We decided against the strings of lights, because they would only draw unwanted attention to the place, and we could do without a drac raid while we're trying to unwind.
Once we had the place looking suitably festive, I dug out the potato chips and vodka, and a can of soda that I'd been saving to give Grace on a special occasion. Christmas seemed special enough to me.
Grace came out of one of the back rooms with a smile on her face and a box in her hands "What ya got there?" I asked, as she crossed the room toward me.
"Sticky notes!.." She said ".. I thought we could make paper chains to hang up!.. Yeah?"
I laughed "Yeah!.. Ok, sounds fun!"
We settled down in a booth, opposite each other, and started making a chain while we waited for the others to return.

*Party's POV*

Oh God!.. This is so bad!
It was just supposed to be a simple supply run. There's this abandoned house a few kilometres from the diner, and a contact of our's had left some food and medical supplies there for us.
We were just supposed to go in, collect the things, and be back to the diner within an hour.
But now we were trapped! Pinned down by drac laser-fire, and I couldn't see a way out.
Kobra was in one of the back rooms, shooting at dracs through the window. Ghoul was outside, ducked down behind a broken and stripped out old car, and I was on the front porch, trying to stay as low as I could, as I couldn't hope to get inside without getting shot.
There were more than a dozen of them, and only three of us.. It seemed pretty hopeless right now!
I glanced toward Ghoul as he shot down two in a row, then turned to shoot one who was trying to sneak up behind me.
As I turned, I felt a blinding pain across my ribs. I fell backward, a cry escaping my lips as I fired at a drac I'd somehow missed before. He went down, but so did I!
As I landed on my back, pain shooting through my body, I looked down to where my hand was pressed to my side. Blood was seeping out between my fingers, and it was all I could see.
My gun slipped from my hand as I started to shake.
Everything sounded faint and distant. The lasers and people shouting.. I thought I heard someone shout my name, but I'm not sure. The only thing I could hear clearly was my heartbeat as it thundered in my ears.
My vision too was fading.. The world around me growing dark.. But I could just make out two figures as they moved toward me, just before I slipped away into the blackness.
So so bad!!..
