You're Not In This Alone

Four days later Sophie and I are allowed to go home and we go home with Ryan, his apartment set up for the baby already. I worry about annoying Brendon with all the crying but he's surprisingly helpful and he will often help with changing diapers and he enjoys holding her and singing her to sleep. A few days after we come home Ryan goes out to get groceries and Brendon and I are sprawled out on the couch while Sophie sleeps in her bassinet, the tv turned down low and I shift around to get comfortable, my head ending up resting against Brendon's side and he slides his arm around my back, helping me get more comfortable and we lay in silence for a few minutes before I hear him make a small noise and when I tilt my head up to ask if I'm bothering him his hand comes down to grab my chin and tilt my head up just a little more and he leans in and kisses me. I instantly freeze, his lips moving against my still ones and when his tongue swipes my bottom lip I snap back into movement and I gently push him away as I sit back. "Bren" I start and he stares at me looking shocked and surprised. "Oh shit I'm sorry. I'm so sorry Ruby I never meant to...." "Hey no no it's alright don't freak out about it" I tell him, trying to calm him down. "I'm sorry Rubes, it's just, I like you, and I have for a while now." "Oh" I say, unsure of how to respond to that. "I'm sorry." "No stop apologising, you shouldn't have to apologise for that." He smiles softly at me as he says "See this is why you're amazing to me. Even when I've done the wrong thing you're so sweet and accepting and forgiving." I feel my cheeks heat up at his words and he chuckles and says "And you're incredibly cute." I shake my head at him and just as I go to speak we hear the front door open. "Please don't..." He starts and I reach out and take his hand in mine. "Of course I wouldn't say anything Bren. I'm sorry that nothing like that can happen between us but we're still friends right?" He nods and I smile as I lean in to hug him. When we pull apart he says "So I'm going apartment hunting later." "There's no rush for you to go anywhere Bren, I really like having you around. And I'm sorry Sophie and I kinda just moved in and took over." "No you guys are fine, I really like having you guys here too I just thought that you'd want me gone soon." "No of course not, you could stay forever if you wanted to, please don't let me force you out of your home." Just as Brendon goes to respond Ryan walks in and while he's smiling at us I can see the wary look in his eye. "Hey guys what's going on?" "Not much, just talking, watching tv." "Uh huh" he says and he takes a seat beside me. "Hey beautiful, I missed you" he says before pulling me in for a kiss and he shoves his tongue in my mouth as his hands slide around me, one sliding up to tangle in my hair and the other sliding down my back to rest on my ass. I gently push him away as I pant for breath, having been taken completely off guard and as I pant in a few breaths Brendon gets up and leaves the room and I see the slightly smug look on Ryan's face and it clicks in my head. "That was pretty fucking shitty Ry." "What?" "Clearly that was just to prove a point." "Have you seen how he looks at you? He clearly is fucking in love with you." "So what if he is? I'm in love with you not him and there is no reason to hurt him like that if he was in love with me. He's your best friend, why would you do that?" "You're mine." I stand up off the couch and spit out "I'm not your fucking property Ryan, you don't own me" before leaving the room and going into the bedroom, closing the door behind me.

I lay on the bed and twenty minutes later a soft knock sounds on the door and when it slowly opens Ryan is standing there looking sheepish. He comes in and closes the door behind himself and he makes his way over to stand beside the bed. "I'm sorry Ruby. I just.....I panicked when I saw how close you guys were because I know how he feels about you." "I know too and I wouldn't do anything, we actually talked about it and he knows I only want his friendship and that's all we will ever have." "Oh." "You don't trust me?" "No no I do baby, I'm sorry." I take a deep breath before opening my arms and Ryan climbs onto the bed and cuddles up to me. "I love you Ruby." "Love you too Ry" I tell him and we snuggle up together, sharing soft slow kisses until Sophie wakes up hungry and cranky and as I settle back on the bed with her and she starts to feed Ryan slides over and wraps his arms around both of us and he softly says "I can't believe how lucky I got to have you in my life."

So this is it. I'm sorry if this turned incredibly shitty at the end but I have run out of inspiration for this particular story and I think I need to shy away from any pregnancy fics for a while because they're starting to bring up some very negative feelings for me due to personal experiences. (If any of you are reading You're Beautiful To Me I will be continuing that and finishing it I promise)
