Counting Down The Days To Go (Frerard)

So Long and Goodnight

He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentleman
Like you imagined when you were young

My eyes fluttered open, slightly blinded by the bright lights at first. I blink a few times until I could at least make out the boy under me. Gerard was still snoring away, his mouth slightly parted. He looks so cute when he's sleeping. One of his arms was flung over my back protectively. I scooted my body up a bit until we were face level and softly kissed him. He groaned and I realized he was awake. I pulled away, only to have him pull me back in. I smiled and pulled away after a minute or two. He was smirking and slightly blushing. "Morning," I murmured.
"Morning, beautiful," he said, his voice cracking. I snaked my arms behind his back and rested my head on his chest. I could hear his heart beating, and it was quite calming. We stayed like that for a few minutes, until he spoke again. "What do you wanna do today?"
"I dunno," I simply answered. "You wanna go shopping for school?"
"We don't get off summer break for another month."
"I knooow, but I need more clothes anyways."
He sighed. "Fine. But not for a few hours. I'm too tired right now."
I scooted up and locked our lips. I slipped my tongue into his mouth, which I could tell made him shiver. I pulled away smiling. "Awake enough?"
"No," he replied, smirking. I kissed his nose and grumbled. "I love you, babe."
"I love you too, Gee."
He slowly sat up, letting me sit in his lap while he peppered the top of my head in kisses. I giggled. "You've been kissing me so much lately," I told him, "what is up with you?"
He pulled away and stared into my eyes. "I love you so so much, and I just can't believe I have someone like you to call my boyfriend. And I know I'm dying, so I want to make the most of our relationship."
"You're getting all sappy," I whined. He playfully pouted. "I love you too." I yawned and stretched my arms before standing up. "Let's go eat. I'm starving."

It was 10:56 and we had already eaten all the leftover pancakes from yesterday. Gerard had already took his pills (which he forgot to take last night) and we were lying on the old couch in his living room, blasting The Killers and singing along.

Well somebody told me
You had a boyfriend
Who looked like a girlfriend
That I had in February of last year
It's not confidential
I've got potential

"Do you wanna go shopping yet?" I asked.
"MOOOOM," he groaned. Donna came down the stairs, looking somewhat annoyed.
"Yes, Gerard?"
"Me and Frank wanna go shopping for school," he explained, "but I don't have any money."
"Gerard, I told you you should get a job."
"Most stores don't hire someone with bright red hair." She sighed, probably seeing his point.
"Fine." I heard a zipper open, shuffling, and more zipping. "Here's 200."
"I don't think we need that much, Mrs. Way," I said.
"Of course you will."
And with that, me and Gerard were heading out the door, hand-in-hand, walking towards the mall.
"Never let me step foot in another Hot Topic," Gerard muttered as we walked out of the store, carrying several black bags.
"You seemed to really like it."
"Yeah, that's why. Because I'll end up spending all of my money on just band merch."
"You nearly did," I told him, giggling. We had practically raided the entire store. The total was $117.39.
"What do we do now?" I simply shrugged.
"We could use some notebooks and stuf--"
"Excuse me?" we heard a voice behind us ask. We both whipped around to see a girl with long black hair and piercing blue eyes. I recognized her from my algebra class. Her name is Sarah. "A-Are you two, like... a thing?"
"Um..." Gerard starts, blushing as he turns to me, "Yeah. Yeah we are."
Sarah smiled and squealed. "Oh-em-gee! I recognize you from school. Why aren't we friends? I would so love to have some GBF's!" She rolled her eyes as she said the last sentence.
"... G-GBF's?" I questioned.
"Yeah. Like, gay best friends?"
"Why... why specifically gay best friends?"
"Because! We can, like, go shopping, and do eachother's makeup, and stuff."
I scoffed. "Seriously? You believe in the stereotype we all love pink and fashion and shopping?" I was slightly offended. She apparently was too, as the smile faded from her face.
"Sorry for trying to be friendly," she muttered. I realized how big a mistake I had made. She was dating Jack, the captain of the football team, who hated my guts. I know that they broke it off several times, but always got back together. She probably knew our names. If she told him about us offending her, then shit shit shit. I realize it sounds like I'm overreacting, but I get enough punches and kicks from just breathing at school. Being the gay emo kid everyone hates is even worse when you offend Jack's girlfriend, y'know? I smiled courteously at her, grabbed Gerard's hand, and began to walk off. Her eyes followed us as we walked down the corridor that smelled like strong perfumes and cinnamon and soap. Gerard asked where we were going, but I didn't answer until Sarah was out of my sight.
"Do you know who that was, Gee?" I asked him.
"She... looked familiar."
"That's Jack Harley's girlfriend. Or fuckbuddy at least." I sighed. "I think I offended her."
"Wait, Jack? Like, head of the football team Jack?" I nodded. "Shiiit."
"Jack hates me. Majorly. And if we offended her, and they're dating... god, I can't endure another beating."
"... beating?" I covered my mouth. I really had not intended on talking about it. "Frank--"
"Yeah. He hates my guts. Being the emo fag isn't exactly a good thing in high school, alright?"
He suddenly pulled me into a hug. I froze, and he quickly pulled back. "Frankie, why didn't you tell me?"
"I didn't feel it was necessary to."
"I don't wanna talk about it, okay, Gerard?" He slowly nodded before giving me a quick peck on the lips. He looked over to a cart next to us. A sign hung above it, reading, "Diamandis Engraving". He smiled and started dragging me to the booth.

A small glass case sat in the middle of the booth, dog tags, ring, necklaces, et cetera hanging inside. They were all engraved with names and symbols. Next to the case was a cash register. Sitting in front of that was a girl with shoulder-length blonde hair. She looked up at us and smiled. "Afternoon," she said in an accent. Welsh, I think? She smiled wide. "I'm Marina. How may I help you today?"
"How much?" Gerard immediately asked.
"40 for one thing engraved, 30 for two." Gee turned to me, a huge smile on his face. I smiled back weakly.
"Can we have like, two... uh, dog tags I think they're called?" he asked shyly while he pointed at a plain, silver necklace. Marina nodded and rummaged through a drawer before pulling out two necklaces with dog tags attached on them.
"What do you want them to say?"
"Uh, one say 'Gerard' and the other 'Frank'." I gripped his hand tighter as I felt heat rising in my cheeks. He turned to me once more, chuckling. "You're so cute when you blush, Frankie," he told me, only making my blush more. He leaned over to kiss my cheek.
"Are you two dating?" she asked as she prepped a hand-operated engraving machine I hadn't noticed before.
"Um, y-yeah," I stuttered.
"Cute couple." She started writing on one of them. I rested my head on Gerard's shoulder and listened to the whirring of the machine. After a few minutes, there was a click and the whirring stopped. I opened my eyes to see her holding up the necklaces. "That'll be $32.10." Gee nodded and let go of my hand to dig out his wallet. I took the necklaces from her and picked out mine, the one that said his name. I smirked as I slipped it around my neck. The tag shined in the light. She took the money and stuffed it in the cash register as she wished us a nice day. Still smiling, I walked away from the booth and to a nearby bench. I slipped it around his neck and his smile grew even wider.
"How mad will your mom be we spent her money on getting necklaces engraved with our names?" I asked playfully.
"She doesn't have to know." He leaned in to give me a quick kiss on the lips.
"Gerard?"
"Yes?"
"I love you so much."
"I love you too, Frankie."

Suddenly, his phone went off. I recognized the ring tone as Mikey's. Gerard pulled out his phone and answered.
"Hello?"
There was a soft voice on the other line.
"W-What? Mikey, I can't understand you. What happened?"
More soft voices. Then, what sounded like crying. And then wailing.
"What...?"
"Elena," the voice said firmly, then went back to crying. Gerard's smile immediately faded.
"What happened, babe?" I asked. Gerard nodded slowly and solemnly before gulping and hanging up the phone. He turned to me, tears lining his eyes.
"My grandma. Elena."
And then we were rushing to the hospital.
