Caterina sat on her fiancé’s lap, smiling as he kissed her on the cheek. “So, are you gonna call him?” She asked Frank as he reached for his coffee cup. He took a sip, taking in its bitter, sweet taste; He wasn’t sure what he was going to do. One on hand, there was a part of him which was terrified. He hadn’t been in any sort of relationship since Gerard out of fear the abuse would start again. But on the other hand, he really fancied Patrick; he was really good looking and fun to be around; even talking about him made him blush. Frank grinned, laughing nervously as he shook his head. “I don’t know, I mean isn’t there a three day rule or something?”
Mikey and Caterina looked at each other, bursting into laughter. They knew they were probably the worst people to ask about relationships and the so-called rules. “Come on Frank, do we really look like the sort of people who stick to the ‘rules of a relationship’?” Mikey asked, raising an eyebrow at him. Frank smiled. He had a point. They had been secretly dating for four years before Ray found out and ended it with Cat, now they were engaged and renting a two bed flat in London with him while they saved up for the wedding. “The heart wants what the heart wants” Caterina added, shrugging her shoulders. Frank nodded in agreement, he really liked Patrick, but what if he was like Gerard? He could risk getting hurt again, not after everything he had been through.

The smiles quickly fades as his friends noticed the sombre look that had faded onto his face. Caterina stretched out her arm, taking Frank by the hand as she smiled sympathetically at him. “Not everyone is like him” she said softly, gently squeezing his hand. Frank sighed, she could see the worry in his eyes; it didn’t surprise her one bit. She remembered the aftermath of the court case as if it was yesterday, the never-ending worry for her friends safety and the trips to hospital every time he tried to kill himself. All of that brought on by one man. Now there was a new man, a new energy in his life and it terrified him; it scared all of them in a way.

“She’s right mate, I know its hard but you have to forget Gerard, sometimes you just have to trust people” Mikey said reassuringly. Frank gazed at his friends, a thin smile slowly forming on his face. They were right. Why should he have to put his whole life on hold because of one man? He nodded at them, thanking them for their advice before rising from his chair, reaching for the piece of paper in his pocket and walking out of the room; closing the door behind him as he dialled Patricks number.
Caterina glanced over at her fiancee, biting her nails anxiously. “Do you think we should have told him about…” She whispered before Mikey quickly shushed her, flashing her a serious expression. “He doesn’t need to know. As far as he’s concerned, Gerard doesn’t get out for another 7 years and that’s how its going to stay”.
