Just Sleep

I quickly sort out my hair and scull a cup of coffee, "what story are you going to tell her today?" Gerard asks resting his head on my shoulder, "I think maybe the one where you and I tried to find never land over the school holidays when I was 6." I say and he smiles, "I remember that, we should do it again sometime." I roll my eyes, "that was so long ago Gee, it was exactly fourteen years ago." "I was 24 when that happened." "You are always 24." I say smiling, "and it didn't stop me, come on Trin. It will be fun!!!!! even Cherry will come along." My smile widens, it would be great, Cherry would love it. "Okay Gee, we can do it. Do you want to come with me to pick up Cherry?" I ask and he nods walking out the door. and I follow him.

"Hey Cherry! How was school?" I said giving her a hug, Gerard remains in the car, "it was really good mummy, I learnt how to spell bee, it's B-E-E." Cherry says smiling, "you getting so smart Cher." I buckle her into her booster seat and smile at Gerard. "who are you smiling at mummy?" Cherry asks and Gerard pulls a silly face, I let out a giggle, "just smiling at memories Cherry." we arrive home and I take out Cherry's hair and brush it whilst she eats her afternoon snack, "hey mummy, is Gerard my daddy?" Cherry asks and I stop brushing. "No honey." I say starting to brush her hair again, "then who is?" she asks looking into my eyes, searching for answers that I'm trying to hide, I stare at her blue eyes. Just like her fathers, then I look at Gerard who is giving me a sad look, "you might meet him again one day Cher," I say and she smiles, "what does he look like?" "Well you have his eyes and smile and he has black hair, when I saw him last had a lip piercing. You have his laugh as well Cherry." I say smiling.

-2 hours later-

I got Cherry to have a bath and I put her hair in rags so it's extra curly for tomorrow's school pictures, she is wearing her pink flannel pyjamas and drinking a glass of warm milk, "so do you want to hear a story?" I say enthusiastically and Cherry gives me a huge smile, "yes, yes, yes mummy! Please!" I smile and sit beside her cuddling her in my arms, Gerard is sitting cross legged at the end of the bed, I don't let him go into Cherry's room much.

"One day many years ago, a girl named Trinity was getting her long blonde hair cut short, Trinity couldn't stop moving around and laughing because her bestest friend in the whole wide world Gerard, was making her laugh by pulling the silliest faces, 'Stop moving around! you are almost seven years old!' Trinity's mother booms causing Trinity to jump, 'Mum-' Trinity begins to say, 'Mother.' Trinity's mother says, 'mother I'm hungry can I have some cereal?' Trinity asks trying to pick up a cereal box, her mother pulls her back causing Trinity to yelp in pain." I say looking over to Gerard, I know he remembers this memory well. I look at Cherry she is looking at me with a faint smile on her face. "Trinity saw that Gerard had a sad look on his face which caused tears to well up in her eyes, but she couldn't cry in front of her mother. Once Trinity's hair is cut and her mother has gone to her friends house which is right next door, Gerard comes over to her and wraps Trinity into his arms, 'Trinity, I have a idea!' he says, 'what is it?' Trinity asks and Gerard smirks, 'let's find NEVER LAND!!!!!' Gerard yells and Trinity giggles."


I look over at my sleeping daughter and kiss her lightly on the forehead, "goodnight my angel." I whisper, Gerard smiles at me before walking me to my bedroom and tucking me in, like he had done years before, "Gee," I say, "yes Trin?" "stay with me?" ask and he smiles, "always."
