You're Beautiful, To Me

I made my way up the stairs to the art room, ignoring my timetable telling me that I should be in maths.
"Morning, Mr Way!" Mr Barnes greeted me, sounding cheerful as I entered the room.
"Hello, sir." I replied, "I think I left my drawing in here yesterday, you know, the one-?"
"Ah yes, the Morrissey one, am I right?" Mr Barnes laughed and reached behind him, bringing it forward and handing it to me.
"Yes, thank you!" My awful mood lifted slightly and I cheered up a bit.
"It's a very good drawing," Mr Barnes continued, "Although very unlike you to forget it. In fact, you were very unlike yourself yesterday! I don't know how many times I've sat kids next to you in an attempt to get you to socialise and you, you've just plain ignored them or snapped at them or scared them off! But then I give up and all of a sudden you're hitting it off with a new kid who's sat there of his own choice, you even seem to get on so well that you don't do ANY work all period then forget your drawing. Forgive me, but what on earth has got into you?!"
I stared at my feet, wondering why my cheeks were red, "I guess you could just say it was all down to good music, such as that made by Morrissey himself!"
Mr Barnes laughed, "Ah well, I'm glad you've got a friend anyhow."
"Thanks, sir." I said and made to walk out.
"Gerard?" Came the voice from behind me.
I froze, Mr Barnes very rarely called me by my first name. Slowly I turned back round, "Yes?"
"I'd erm, I'd recommend some mouthwash or something minty." He said, flicking his eyes from me to the floor, "We don't want you called down to counselling again."
My already red cheeks seemed to be on fire, the alcohol I'd drunk earlier must be making me smell of drink, "Oh yeah, I- Wait! How do you know about that?!"
Once in class the teacher had smelt alcohol on me and had alerted the guidance department, I'd then been called down and questioned about my mental state. Not something I'd like to repeat.
"It's on your records," Mr Barnes said looking me in the eyes, "But I thought that'd screw up your chances after school so I lied and said you'd been out a friend’s birthday party the night before, that you'd told me about it the previous day after class. And they bought it, although if they found I'd lied I'd probably lose my job, and I don't think I could pull it off again, you understand me Gerard?"
I felt a sweep of gratitude which I couldn't express, "Thank you sir, and yes, I do."
"Good good." My teacher said, then began to smile, "Do you want a polo?"
"Yes, please." I said gratefully and accepted one from the packet he was offering me.
"In fact, have the tube!" He laughed and I accepted it.
"Thank you." I said again.
"I'll see you in art, stay safe." He said with a smile as I left the room and headed for maths.
When I got to the maths classroom I remembered that we'd move rooms, I cursed then walked back through the corridors.
It turns out that I didn't have to wait until art to see Frank as he was in my maths class.
I entered the room with my eyes cat downwards as the teacher said in a crisp voice "You're late, Way."
I didn't say anything but flicked my eyes upwards and caught sight of Frank, siting by himself and smiling at me. I managed a weak smile and made my way over to him.
"What're you eating?" He asked quietly, giving me a funny look.
"Polo mints!" I laughed unexpectedly, "You want one?"
He accepted and I sat down, opening my bag.
"Where did you go?" He asked in the same quiet voice.
"To art," I replied, "To get my drawing, I left it there yesterday."
Frank nodded and we were interrupted by the teachers voice, "Way, you are already late, if I catch you distracting Iero again then I'll have you both in for detention."
We both muttered apologies and started working, holding in fits of giggles as we did.
We eventually calmed down and got some work done, but just before the bell Frank slipped a note to me.
'The yard at break?'
I looked up at him, making eye contact, and nodded sharply.
The bell rang and we left the classroom together, before heading in separate directions.
Next period was complete hell, I hate the subject biology as it is, without all these people who hate me sitting around me.
I just plugged my headphones in and stared into space for the period, paying no attention to the lesson whatsoever.
When the class finally ended I made my way to the yard, as I'd promised Frank, but he wasn't there so I just sat down cross legged in the corner and pulled out my whiskey bottle.
Mr Barnes's warning flashed in the back of my mind but I pushed it away, I was in such a shit mood and I still had polo mints left so I guess it couldn't hurt.
I lifted the bottle to my mouth and closed my eyes as I let the amber liquid flow over my tongue and down my throat.
"Oh, hey, Gerard."
I opened my eyes and lowered the bottle, my eyes streaming I choked a reply, "Hiya Fraaank."

I am honestly so sorry about the time it's been since I've last updated. I was away camping for two weeks and when I got back my laptop had broken, however it's fixed now and here's the next chapter! Hopefully I'll be able to update more frequently again and thank you so much for sticking with me!<3
