You're The Only Hope For Me

Hazel stirred in her chair, awakened by the return of Gerard and Clara. Their arrival was announced by a soft giggle as the door opened, Hazel attempted to open her eyes but the bright light shining through the windows hurt her so she closed them right before opening them wide again. She had cramp in her legs which had been curled under her as she slept and she realised that she was still holding onto Frank's hand. Clara shut the door behind them looking like she was about to burst out laughing, Gerard smirked whilst looking at the floor.
"Whaaa-?" Hazel started, looking between the two of them confused.
"Awww! They fell asleep holding hands! That's the cutest thing ever!" Gerard exclaimed, his face bright as Clara giggled again.
"What is-? What have you-? The fuck?!" Hazel stuttered, staring at them and taking in their lively expressions.
Clara and Gerard exchanged a look and both burst out laughing, once they started they couldn't stop and ended up sitting on the floor as their laughter choked them. It seemed to be contagious, or maybe it was just the odd sight of them, but Hazel found herself laughing too. She swung her legs over the edge of the chair, still keeping a hold of Frank's hand, and joined them in their mirth.
"So what's up? Spill it! What have you guys taken?!" She laughed as they began to calm down.
That set them both off again and Gerard shook his head as tears ran down his cheeks.
After a few minutes they composed themselves and Hazel sat in the chair facing the two on the floor.
"That was just, a, we, we just had a great time?" Gerard half wheezed and Clara wiped her eyes.
"A good time hmm?" Hazel raised her eyebrows.
"No! Not like that!" Clara cut in and Gerard laughed again.
Hazel smiled and shook her head, "What time is it?"
"It's just gone half ten." Clara answered, glancing at her wrist.
"We got your stuff." Gerard added, chucking a bag at her.
"Clothes?" Hazel asked.
"Yep!" Gerard replied.
"And makeup and toothbrush and books and music and chocolate!” Clara added and Hazel grinned at her.
“I figured you’d stay with me, yeah?” Gerard said to Hazel, “You know, until Frank’s released from this prison. Of course, you could stay at Frank’s by yourself, but I thought that seeing that you’re my sister and all now then it’d make it more, errmm, enjoyable?”
“Yeah, that works,” Hazel smiled at him and liked how he smiled back, shit he was in a good mood, “Although I want to spend as much time with Frank as possible, like here yes?”
Gerard shrugged, “It’s up to you, I’m fine with it all.”
“By the way, Hazel, I really like your clothes! You have such a great taste in music, and fashion!” Clara chipped in and Hazel looked at her, noticing that she’d changed out of her hospital uniform.
She was now wearing ripped black jeans that had lace covering the holes with combat boots, a black t-shirt with a skull sequined on and a black Fall Out Boy hoodie which was unzipped and hung loosely over her. Her eyeliner was thick and she had various wristbands up her arms. Gerard was sitting beside her and wearing slim black jeans also tucked into combat boots and a back Misfits t-shirt, his hair was sticking up and he had eyeliner smudged around his eyes which made them stand out against his pale face. Hazel thought that to be honest they would make quite a cute couple.
“Thanks!” Hazel replied cheerfully, “I’ll have to lend you some merch then! What bands you into? Pierce The Veil? All Time Low? Black Veil Brides?”
“Sleeping With Sirens, Blink-182, Paramore – the lot!” Clara grinned back and they both laughed, Gerard pulled a face at them but laughed too.
Clara then stood up and muttered something about picking up, she left the room promising to be back soon and Gerard looked up at Hazel.
“Hazel?”
She looked back at him sitting cross legged on the floor, “Yeah?”
“Could I get advice, please?” He clasped his hands and began staring into his lap. “You know, as you’re like my little sister and all?”
“Yeah, sure.” Hazel replied with a smile, “Go for it!”
“Well, I know this sounds stupid because I’ve only just, no hold on, it’s like, well, see I think, oh I don’t know!” Gerard began twisting his fingers together as he spoke.
“Come on, I won’t judge you mate,” Hazel looked at him, smirking slyly, “Besides, I think I know what you’re about to say anyway!”
“No you don’t.” He said, staring at his fingers as he continued to twist them.
Hazel laughed, “I’m pretty sure I do, bro!”
Gerard hesitated a moment before looking up at her, his cheeks slightly pink, “Is it-”
He jerked his head to the side and met her eyes, Hazel smirked at him as she nodded, Gerard dropped his head downwards, trying to hide the blush which was creeping across his cheeks.
“Awwww,” Hazel cooed, “That’s sweet.”
“What should I do?” Gerard asked without raising his head.
“I don’t know,” Hazel giggled, “Let me get back to you on that! Nothing yet though, I’d say anyway.”
Gerard nodded and glanced up at her, she giggled again at the sight of his glowing face.
Their loving ‘family’ talk ended when Clara entered the room again, Hazel raised her eyebrows at Gerard and he leapt up, his face glowing even more.
“I’ll get us pizza or something!” He said before leaving quickly.
“Where’s he gonna find a pizza shop open at this time?” Clara asked, glancing behind her once he’d left.
Hazel laughed and shrugged, “No clue!”
“Dear God.” Clara laughed too and pulled another chair over to join Hazel, “I need to ask you something, like a, I’m not sure, a ‘girl talk’?”
Hazel laughed and leant forwards, “I’m listening.”
“I know I barely know him and all, but I think I like Gerard.” Clara said clearly, flicking her eyes up at Hazel.
Hazel laughed about how open and straight to the point she was about it before replying, “That’s cute!”
“I feel really stupid though,” Clara blushed as she looked at Hazel, “I barely know him, I only met him a little while ago!”
“I’ll tell you something,” Hazel leaned closer to Clara, “I’m sure Gerard’s told you the whole story of how I met Frank, but I think I fell in love with him the same day.”
“Yeah, he did,” Clara bit her lip, “but that’s a bit different though.”
“Not really,” Hazel smiled, “It only takes 0.5 seconds to fall in love, remember? I waited for a bit to get to know Frank a little better before I definitely made up my mind, and just over a week later we got together. It was the best thing that has ever happened to me!”
“How should I deal with this?” Clara asked her, still sounding unsure, and Hazel paused to think for a minute.
“He’s one of the loveliest people ever, I could have him a thousand times over and still not deserve him. Sure, he does have his own problems and he’s not perfect, but other than Frank he’s the closest person I know to it.” Hazel took a breath and grinned widely at Clara who smiled back shyly, “Yeah! I think you should go for it!”
