Chapter 4

Chapter 4:
The next day, Gerard woke up refreshed with the excitement of what the day would bring. He went into the kitchen to start up a fresh pot of coffee only to realize that Mikey had beat him to it. Mikey was sitting at the kitchen table cradling the hot mug close to himself as Gerard walked by in a near daze. The rich aroma swirling through the older brother’s senses as he carried himself to the coffee maker and poured a mug of his own.
Gerard turned around as his brother looked up at him, beaming as he noticed that they both mirrored the same expression of excitement. They sat at the table in a full content state and sipped their coffee, enjoying the peaceful morning. Gerard couldn’t remember the last time he woke up this early but he couldn’t help but appreciate the peaceful stillness of his surroundings. He felt a little disenchanted as he realized how many moments like this were missed because he liked to sleep in till half passed-noon. Gerard decided that he was going to make it a point to wake up at an hour early once in a while so he could enjoy the peaceful mornings but that thought was pushed aside in his mind as he heard a set of footsteps coming down the stairs.
“Good morning, Michael. Oh, you’ve made coffee already, what a dear. Oh-” Their mother paused as she gazed at her eldest son in surprise and slight confusion, but the expression soon melted into a warm smile as she put a hand on Gerard’s shoulder giving it a comforting squeeze. “Sweetheart, you’re up early.” She stated in almost a questioning manner.
“Well, uhm...” Gerard started. How could he explain why he was up so early without setting the woman off? He and Mikey have yet to tell their mother about his idea and now thinking about all the chaos and noise that it would cause, he could tell already that she would not be a supporter. Gerard pondered what to say as his mother watched him. Confusion settling into her facial features once again. He opened his mouth to try to start again but before he could get any words out, there was a loud knock at the door. Gerard jumped up to answer it as his mother frowned after him, clearly aware that her eldest son was up to something.
Gerard opened the door to a bright and smiling Ray carrying his guitar case and a less than thrilled Matt who looked like he had been dragged out of bed by the ear.
“Dude, you’re up!” Ray exclaimed, clearly not expecting Gerard to be the one to open the door. Gerard smirked before telling ray to set up his things down so he could clear space in the attic for them.
Just as they he turned around to lead Ray and a grumbling Matt to the attic, he heard his mother call “Gerard Arthur Way, do you mind joining me in the kitchen?” Gerard snarled at Ray who was snickering at the use of his middle name and turned to make his way back into the kitchen, sighing as he knew what this discussion would be about.
