Days Gone By

Family Matters

Gerard wandered through the darkening streets, tears streaming down his face as he was faced with the sudden realisation that he was alone in the world. He wandered down Aldermaston road, listening to the thunder clap above his head as the heavens opened and rain began to fall from the clouded skies. Gerard collapsed to his knees, holding his head in his hands as he broke down; sobbing as the rain soaked through his clothes and onto his skin. “I’m sorry I didn’t protect you Mikey” He sobbed thunder roaring overhead. He couldn’t live like this anymore. It was only a matter of time before everything he loved was finally ripped away from him. Once that happened, he knew he’d never be able to live with himself.

He couldn’t be alone.

As he broke down, he didn’t hear the footsteps approach from behind him. He didn’t notice Frank standing close behind him. Frank stood there, wearing nothing but a black skinny jeans and a coat with the hood pulled over his face, his dark brown eyes remained fixed on Gerard. He slowly knelt down, wrapping his arms around him as he kissed him gently on the side of the face. “Everything will be alright” Frank reassured, hugging him tight as Gerard sobbed into his chest. Lindsey watched them from the distance, her eyes narrowing as she felt her heart begin to break. “I suppose he just needed some space” Levi suggested, flashing her a friendly smile as the rest of the group slowly walked past her; continuing their journey up the road.

Lindsey stared venomously at the pair; clenching her fists as a tear trailed down her cheek. There was no denying it anymore. She had lost him. The man she had fallen in love with so long ago, the man she had worked so hard to keep, had finally left her for.... for a dirty no good queer. She wiped her eyes, a sinister smile slowly forming on her face. She wasn’t giving up this easily. She would make him see that it was her he wanted. It was her that he needed to be with, not Frank. “I’m coming for you boys” She said, her voice sounded almost angelic as strolled up towards the group, wrapping her arm around Gerard’s waist.

The group walked up to the large black gates of the hotel, a loud creek ripping through the air as they pushed them open and walked inside. Gerard glanced back at Frank, frowning as Lindsey led him away. “I’m sorry” He mouthed. Frank shook his head in response, smiling somewhat sympathetically as they walked up the path and inside the hotel.

He knew this wasn’t his doing.

“For fuck sake, where the hell is she?” Levi fretted, frantically pacing back and forth like a worried mother. Gerard had taken on the role of the silent but worried child, whereas the rest of the group was acting more rational; lounging on the sofas of the lobby they were in as if they didn’t have a care in the world. “Levi stop it. You’re making me dizzy,” Jenny grumbled. “This is Lindsey we’re talking about. She’s probably just sulking” she stated confidently, catching Gerard’s eye; she doubted he was reassured by that.

Gerard was on the same level as Levi; he was freaking out too, but was doing so silently and motionlessly, just perched on the edge of the sofa, too tense with concern to relax. He had a good reason to be worried, seeing as the last time he saw her was several hours ago when they had an argument. For fuck sake Lindsey will get off my fucking back His words echoed through his mind as he mindlessly thought back to that stupid row. There is nothing going on with me and Frank! He buried his head in his hands, the feeling of shame rising in his chest. Perhaps he should have just been honest with her; he couldn’t keep hiding this from her.

Then again, she was carrying his baby.

Billie stared at him with p piercing, narrowed eyes from across the room; as though he had climbed inside Gerard’s brain and heard his thoughts loud and clear. He was leaning against the wall, calm but definitely suspicious of him, judging from the expression on his face. “Yes? What is it, Bill?” Gerard asked openly, pushing him to just say what he already knew he was thinking.“You were the last one to see her Gerard… What happened between the two of you?” He asked, instantly, still wearing the same cynical expression. He didn’t care about the drama between him, Frank and Lindsey- it was none of his business. But if he was starting to go around killing off members of the group then he was sure as hell about to make it his damn business. Especially if it meant Jenny was in danger.

“Nothing,” Gerard retorted automatically, before realising that he should have probably told the truth. “Look, we kind of had an argument…”

As soon as the words left his mouth Billie’s face fell to the floor, sighing loudly. Levi stopped dead in his tracks, as Frank and Jenny just turned to face him. “But it was nothing major I swear” He added quickly, trying to dismiss the news as irrelevant, but no one seemed to hear him. “What about?” Frank enquired, sitting up straight suddenly, a glimmer of hope in his eyes as he spoke. Gerard remained silent and averted his eyes to the floor not wanting to let the truth slip. He couldn’t tell them what happened, he couldn’t have the entire group know about this.

“I take it she knows about you and Frank then?” Jenny revealed openly, talking to him as if the group wasn’t sat right in front of them. All eyes were fixed on them, Levi’s mouth gapped open in shock as he slowly processed what she had said. Suddenly, he turned to acknowledge him; glaring at Gerard in annoyance. “She’s having your baby Gerard, what were you thinking!” He hissed striding towards him before Frank rose to his feet, placing his hands firmly on his chest to stop him from lashing out. “Levi sit down, there are two sides to every story. You forget that she cheated on him first now SIT. DOWN” He said sternly. They stared at each other for a moment; anger growing in Levi’s eyes before a hand lightly touched his shoulder. “Babe it’s none of our business, just leave it ok” Jenny said softly, giving his shoulder a supportive squeeze with her hand before he backed down.

“Why don’t we split up and look for her in different places?” Levi suggested, sitting on the edge of the sofa with Jenny. “And meet back here in about half an hour, she must be around here somewhere” Gerard added, nodding in agreement. No one seemed to care that finding one person in a hotel as big as this was almost an impossible task when you have no clue where they could be. Gerard ran his fingers through his hair, yes, this was insane, but they had to try. He couldn’t help but feel that something bad had happened to Lindsey.
They didn’t waste any more time before departing from the lobby and setting off down the corridors of the hotel together at a quick pace. They rushed silently, all in their own little worlds as they thought of places to go and look.

Gerard darted through the hotel in a blind panic as he frantically searched for Lindsey. She couldn’t have just run away like that, how could she be so selfish? She knew how dangerous it was to go out alone. A thought quickly came to him as he stormed back through the lobby. He checked the desk and found one of the keys to be missing.

Your shit at hiding he thought bitterly.

He ran for the stairs, sprinting up the winding staircase to the third floor; his heart racing as he struggled to catch his breath; the odd cigarette certainly didn’t help. He strode through the winding corridors, searching for room 3H; silently pleading that everything was ok. He turned the corner and found the room at the end of the corridor. “Lindsey?” He called out, only to be met with an eerie silence. He stared down the long dark corridor to the room, watching as the door open slightly. He crept closer, rapidly looking around as the feeling, the growing feeling of being watched, festered within him. He slowly produced his belt, holding out in front of him as he silently pleaded for her to be ok. If only he hadn’t of lost his temper then maybe she wouldn’t have stormed off like that. He had already lost so many people in his life; he couldn’t bear it if he had lost his baby too. Silence hung in the air, the only sound coming from Gerard’s footsteps as he finally reached the door.

His hands trembled with suspense as he slowly pushed the door open, holding my breath and silently praying that this is where Lindsey would be.

And amazingly, she was. But the chilling sight he was met with stopped him from breathing a sigh of relief, because he could see quite clearly that his initial instinct was right: something bad had definitely happened.
