Bury Me in Black

Chapter 1

England, June 1944.

By rights Gerard Way and Frank Iero should have been enjoying themselves or trying at least. The small hall had been decked out with flags and bunting, all around them were pretty women looking for a good looking man in uniform and there was a good amount of alcohol. Their unit was gathered around them at the bar, all of them well trained and ready to go abroad in the morning. Not to say that people weren’t scared, they had all lost friends and suffered through several years of war but they were probably better trained than most.
Yet both were staring morosely into their beer.
“You can’t desert the minute we get to France Gee.”
“Why the fuck not? They are lying to us Frankie; I am going to find my brother.”
Frank shook his head and took another sip of the lukewarm beer. His friend, as always, was being erratic and yet strangely brilliant and it bugged him. He could only see the profile, the usual mop of black hair tamed back into neatness, the cheekbones and soft lips that Frank could never resist and those eyes, deep and almost black in his anger. Frank had never wanted him more.
“They volunteered for special ops. Mikey and Zack knew exactly what they were getting into and you had enough arguments with both of them over it.”
“Not enough.”
Gerard pouted and looked over at where Ray and Bob were chatting to local girls, one hand already on a knee. They had the better attitude and he knew it, get drunk and get laid because it may well be your last chance. He wondered if this night would end up like most others in trying to find a dark corner where he could make love to Frank without getting caught. Frank was watching him, nibbling his lip in the way that Gerard could never resist and looking much younger than twenty one. It was proving distracting.
“We have to face the fact that at best they are in some Nazi camp and at worst….”
“He’s not dead and neither is Zacky. You would know.”
Frank rolled his eyes. Gerard had always claimed that because Frank and Zack were twins they should have that unique telepathy thing going on. Frank had tried to point out that being adopted and not knowing each other had existed for a fair number of years would dent that but Gee was having none of it. In truth he had started to wonder, he did have this nagging feeling that the mission six months before had not ended in some kind of disaster even though there had been no word or sighting, both the US and British armies had insisted that the whole unit had been wiped out but provided no evidence and no communication.
Suspicion had begun earlier in Gerard, Mikey had always been the more ambitious of the two despite being the younger brother and had jumped at the chance to do something more with himself than just stay where drafted. Gee had made Captain, was damn food at what he did but did it only out of duty, he had no stomach for the death and pointless waste that went with it. When the telegram had come to say his brother was dead and not to ask any more questions, Gerard had started to push. All he had found out was that they had been dropped into northern France, completed their mission and then utterly disappeared. At the same time he had learned an entire unit of German troops had vanished too and it had set him on a collision course with his superiors and a demotion. Sergeant Way was going to France in the morning.
“We don’t even know where to start.”
Gerard motioned to the barman and two shot glasses appeared in front of them. Frank glanced back at his other best friends, he didn’t fancy trying to sober Gee up alone with a mission in the morning. To his amusement, Ray was deep in conversation with a plain looking blonde who hung on his every word as Bob glanced over at the girls still waiting and hoping to be noticed. Frank liked to think of himself as open, he enjoyed women as much as men and perhaps he could tempt Gerard into a more pleasing diversion than drinking himself into oblivion.
“Let’s start by finding a pretty girl to dance with.”
Gerard couldn’t help it, the combination of Frank using his best hangdog expression and the alcohol made him smile. Victory assured, the two men turned and started checking along the lines of girls still waiting to dance. It was hard not to notice that most of the lookers had already been snapped up, the dance floor now full of whirling couples as the band pumped out a fair imitation of Glen Miller hits. Gerard let his eyes flick along the line and then stopped.
He and Frank were being watched.
They stood right at the back, not even sitting with the others but slightly closer to the door and somehow neither man could look away. Neither girl was tall, both dressed simply in black with little decoration and yet…Gee found he was already walking across the room. Frank followed, transfixed by the girl with vibrant red hair that curled gently onto her shoulders. He knew Gee would want the dark haired one who smiled at him with full red lips.
“Care to dance ?”
Gerard stared at the woman, seeing now that she was older than he thought. She was pale, long black hair neatly tied in a braid that fell nearly to her waist. The redhead whispered something in her ear and then smiled at Frank as Gee waited for an answer.
“Certainly but only if you tell me your name and that of your friend.”
“I’m Gerard and that’s Frank. You are ?”
The redhead was also pale, deep green eyes sparkled with amusement at the slight blush that came across Frank’s face at the mention of his name. He always felt a little tongue tied although Gerard was naturally the shyer of the two. It took both of them an age to talk to women normally although with their looks combined with the uniform, they got plenty of offers. The dark haired woman smiled again.
“I’m Raven. My friend here is Ophelia. We almost didn’t come in here tonight but now I’m sort of glad we did.”
Gerard laughed, the tension broken as the band struck up again. He reached out and took Raven’s hand, smiling to himself that Ophelia seemed happy to take the lead and drag Frank onto the dancefloor. A momentary pang of jealousy nipped at him, he wasn’t used to sharing his lover with many women despite the mutual enjoyment of the pleasures a female body could bring. He had always been the more dominant in their relationship and had come to like it that way. Dragging himself back to the present he pulled Raven into his arms and stared again into velvety brown eyes.
“I’d ask if you come here often but I think we covered that.”
She was slightly shorter than him, her hand gently resting on his neck above the collar as she took in the handsome, open face. This one was an artist, he would make an interesting lover if they way he was holding her now gave any clue and she had resolved to have the pretty thing.
“Hardly ever and we won’t be in town long now but then neither will you.”
“No, we ship out in the morning.”
Raven inclined her head, the fingers circling against the back of his neck felt good and Gerard found that he was holding her a little tighter. There was something making him light headed, certainly there had not been enough drink for it to have an effect and he liked it.
“Shame. So many young men going to fight in a war started by old men.”
He smiled, glancing over to see that Frank and Ophelia seemed equally lost in each other amongst the swirling dancers. The band was still playing, the lights above seemed a little brighter and the whole room had taken on a colder feel. He shivered slightly.
“We don’t make the orders, just obey them. Don’t you agree with the war ?”
“I don’t like to see men die for transient causes shall we say. You have lost people, I can see that in your face.”
Gerard felt the pain rip through his heart again, a vision of Mikey waving him off after the last drunken night on base. His voice dropped and his head now rested against hers.
“My baby brother. Although I don’t know that he is dead.”
“I’m sorry. This war has taken things of value from too many of us.”
Frank saw that Gee was frowning, his eyes closing as she seemed to comfort him. He felt a sudden fear for his friend that he couldn’t put a finger on before a hand on his face drew his attention back to Ophelia’s concerned face.
“Is your friend ok ?”
“He lost his brother same time as my twin went missing. It hit him very hard.”
Her face lit up in surprise and he marvelled again that it was him dancing with a beautiful woman rather than one of the fly boys that always seemed to congregate at these things. Already the song had changed into something a little more up tempo but he didn’t want to let go.
“Zacky. We’re not identical and we didn’t even meet till we were sixteen. Got adopted very early on.”
“And then you lost him again ? How sad.”
Frank nodded and she planted the softest of kisses against his lips. His head swum a little and the kiss lingered longer and longer until a hand tapped his shoulder. Gee grinned at him, Raven nestled into his shoulder as he pointed towards the door.
“The girls have a house near here. Raven invited us back for drinks, if that’s ok with you Ophelia.”
The two girls exchanged a glance, this had worked well and these men were so much more than they had been led to believe. Ophelia nodded, her hand slipping into Frank’s.
“Sounds like a much better option than staying here. What time do you have to be back on base.”
“No later than midnight but hey, rules are meant to be bent a little.”
Frank smirked and slapped a hand on his friends shoulder as the four headed to the exit and out into the rain. So much for the great british summer everyone had told them about, it didn’t seem to have stopped raining since they had arrived. Both men were a little disconcerted at being propositioned so openly, no women they had ever met would just invite them back to their rooms but there had been no choice about it. Gerard tried to wonder why, he had always at least tried to remain a gentleman even if things never really worked out that way.
The walk was indeed short and full of conversation. They discussed the guys hometown in New Jersey, how Ophelia and Raven had grown up in London and Canterbury respectively although both said they hadn’t been home in a long time. They were here now to find some old friends and then would be going back the country. Raven had a cheeky sense of humour, seeing quickly that Gee would slip into melancholy if allowed to while Frank found that he wanted to sit and talk to Ophelia about a tiny thousand things as they tumbled into the terraced Victorian house.
“Nice place.”
Raven lit a lamp, making sure the blackout curtains were tightly drawn.
“Been in my family a very long time in one form or another. Drink ?”
Both men nodded and soon all were curled into big sofas by a roaring fire. It was warm and a certain drowsiness came across the room as jackets and stoles were discarded. Gerard found he could only concentrate on being in Raven’s arms, his usual shyness about his body lost as she undid his shirt and climbed onto his lap. For a moment he didn’t know how to react, seeing that Frank had lost any qualm. His hand was deep in Ophelia’s hair, lips caressing each other as the fire sparked and crackled. Soft kisses were now running down his own neck and a small groan escaped as he pulled her back.
“Raven, I don’t normally do….this.”
A light giggle escaped her as she saw the confusion on his face.
“You want to stop ?”
“No…I just don’t want you to think this is a fling because I could die tomorrow.”
She went back to kissing his neck, the skin was warm and so wonderfully sweet. Her hands roamed over his chest, fingers pinching one nipple as he gasped and moaned again.
“I know that. I was looking for you Gerard, you’re quite important to me. Or rather someone close to me.”
Now he looked truly confused, feeling a streak of irrational fear go through his body as her hand clamped over his mouth. Raven smiled at him properly, showing longer sharpened incisors. He was going to taste so good. Gerard tried to scream as she whispered into his ear before plunging her teeth deep into the vein in his neck.
“Your brother wanted me to find you.”

Notes

I wanted to do vampires but mix it up a bit and basically try out as many kinky pairings as possible.........
