Billie’s POV
David leans forward, his lips meeting mine. I roll my eyes and allow the kiss to continue for only a few more seconds before pulling away and forcing a sad excuse for a smile.
“Can I call you, baby?” David purrs, leaning against the doorframe and biting his lip in an attempt of seduction.
I smirk and run a finger down his chest, now covered in a Tshirt. “I’ve got your number.” I remind him. “I’ll call you.”
David grins and nods before turning and disappearing down the sidewalk. There is no way in hell I am calling him.
The past few weeks have been... complicated. I’ve been keeping an eye on Nathan, lurking outside of his school and even passing by his house inconspicuously. I’ve been waiting patiently for the time when he came crawling back to me, whenever this new boyfriend Cole got sick of him and dumped his sorry ass. But my patience was wearing thin. I had needs, and for awhile I was fulfilling those needs elsewhere. Hook ups with random men I picked up at bars, desperate teens from Nathan’s school, but no one seemed to be able to please me quite the way Nathan could.
I needed to find a way to get him to come back to me.
Of course, it’s just at that thought that the doorbell rings. When I pull it open, I’m faced with a grinning Alex. I sigh and let him in, making my way into the kitchen for a beer. He follows.
As I’m cracking open the drink, my friend speaks. “I think you’re going to be happy, Billie,” He says, grabbing a bottle of his own and taking a drink. “I found a way to get Nathan back for you. And it’s already in effect.”
I raise an eyebrow at him questioningly. “Yeah? And what’s the plan exactly?”
Alex grins, hopping up to sit on the counter. Swinging his legs back and forth, he produces a phone from his jeans pocket. Scrolling through a few things, he turns it to face me. A picture of the night I had my way with Nathan is on the screen. He looks fucking beautiful, ass up in the air, chest pressed against the mattress, blindfold hiding his vision.
“Okay?” I prompt.
“I sent these to Frank,” Alex states. “And then I called the police.”
My eyes widen and I choke on my beer. “You… what!?”
Alex, oblivious to my sudden wave of anger, just smiles again, nodding. “I made an anonymous call and told them that our little Frankie has child porn on his phone. And of course, they’ll have to check it out. When they find the evidence on there, they’ll have to arrest and charge him. That’s where you come in. You find Nathan, tell him that we can make sure the charges on Frank are dropped, but only if he comes back to you.” Alex is still beaming, though I’m now fuming. “It’s a good plan, right?”
“You fucking idiot!” I scream. My voice is louder than intended, my vision nothing but red at the complete fury. I throw the bottle in my grasp at the wall, hearing it shatter and hit the floor in pieces. The reaction makes Alex jump, his smile disappearing. “Do you know how fucking stupid that plan is!?”
Alex is now shaking his head frantically, the fear obvious on his face. “No, no Billie! I was careful! I sent them from a burner phone, they can’t trace it. And I called from a payphone. There’s no way they can trace it back to us.”
“And what about the other photos?” I demand, taking an angry step closer. “The ones where you and I have a fucking minor on the bed? Don’t you think that will cause some suspicion?!” Alex opens his mouth a little to answer, but I’m not nearly done. “And what happens if Frank tells the cops about me? Do you have any idea what you’ve done, Alex!? If they catch me, I’m going to prison!”
Alex looks downright terrified by this point, but I don’t care. The fear in his eyes only makes me madder. “And do you know who I’m dragging down with me?” I ask in a lower, deadly voice. “You, Alex. I’m gonna make damn sure the police think you’re just as guilty as I am.”
Alex gapes at me. I spin on my heels, racing up the stairs to grab a duffle bag from my closet. Shoving some clothes inside, I go back downstairs. If Alex is smart, he’ll be gone by now. Of course, he was never really smart.
I’m throwing some more items into the bag when I feel Alex’s hand on my shoulder, making me turn to face him. “I didn’t do anything!” He exclaims. “You can’t pin this on me! You’re the fucking idiot who kidnapped him to begin with!”
And that’s when I snap. I grab the lamp from the end table and bring it forward, bashing it down on Alex’s head. The ceramic shatters, a rather sharp shard meeting Alex’s temple in what looks to be a painful hit. Blood begins pouring from the wound and he falls underneath the weight. His eyes are open, watching me as I gather the few remaining things I need, and then bolt from the house.
•••
The sun has long since set over the horizon. The only light comes from inside the old house, a few burning bulbs downstairs in what I’ve learned is the living room. Upstairs, a single light comes from what I think is the right room. Fortunately, there’s a convenient tree outside the window. I leave my dufflebag at the base of the tree and begin the ascent. When I peek into the window, I smile. Nathan is sitting on the bed, cross-legged, staring into space. The lamp beside his bed illuminates the room and I see he’s alone. When I climb closer, I see there are earbuds in each ear. I almost laugh. This is easier than I could have possibly imagined.
I push the window open quietly, crawling through the tiny space into the large room. I sit on the bed behind Nathan, as he faces the door across the room. As the weight on the mattress changes, Nathan pulls out the earphones and sighs, looking down to turn his iPod off. “Cole, I told you I don’t wanna talk right now.” He mumbles.
I run a few fingers across the back of his neck, feeling the chills that arise there. “Cole,” He begins, pulling away and standing up. When he turns to face me, his expression changes almost instantly when he realizes I’m not the boyfriend he thought I was. He swallows hard, biting his lip and clutching the iPod tighter. “Billie,” He chokes out. “What the hell are you doing here?”
“Hi, Nathan.” I smirk and scoot across the mattress. “Miss me?”
