Mikey’s POV

“Kitchen’s over there, bathroom is that door right there, my room is at the end of the hall, this is the living room, and you can hang your coat right there,” she said, gesturing to the coat rack next to the door. It was nearing the end of October, so it was getting pretty cold outside. Hayley’s house was small, but it was cozy. Everything seemed to fit perfectly in its own little space.

“If you want I’ll take the couch and you can sleep in my room,” Hayley offered.

“No, no, it’s fine. I’ll sleep on the couch,” I protested. I wanted her to be comfortable, and the couch didn’t look very soft.

“If you insist. You can help yourself to anything you want in the fridge, but don’t even think about touching the Ben & Jerry’s in the freezer,” she giggled and left the room. I sat on the couch and turned on the TV, waiting for her to come back. When she finally did she had changed from her jeans and sweater to pink and blue plaid PJ pants and a black t-shirt. She sat next to me and snuggled up to my chest, I put my arm around her shoulders. Suddenly she looked up at me, her eyes were so beautiful. I found myself staring at her lips and didn’t realize I was leaning into them until they collided with my own. It began lightly but became more passionate over time. She pulled away, checking the clock and seeing it was almost 12 am, so she placed a kiss on my forehead and said goodnight.

I lay on the couch in my boxers and t-shirt, and man was I right about it being uncomfortable. I couldn’t sleep. I kept staring at the clock, watching the second hand tick by. Just as the clock turned to 2:57 am, I heard Hayley screaming. I jumped up and sprinted to her bedroom, somewhat relieved to find it was just a nightmare but still panicking. I ran to her side and grabbed her hand.

“Hayley, it’s okay. It’s me, Mikey. I’m here. You’re safe, Hayley,” I quaked as I tried to wake her up. She stopped screaming and her eyes shot open as she gasped for air, her mind trying to process what had happened. Her breathing slowed and tears came to her eyes as she recalled the nightmare. I gave her hand a light squeeze. “Are you okay? What happened?”

“It was just a nightmare,” she managed, her voice shaky as she wiped her eyes. “I’m fine, really.”

I nodded and stood up, dreading having to go back to that wretched couch.

“Mikey, wait,” she said as I reached the door. “Can you, um, sleep in here with me?”

“Yeah, of course,” I replied and lay down next to her, crawling under the duvet. She lay facing me and smiled slightly as I pulled her into my body, my arms wrapped around her.

“Is this okay?” I asked when I felt her body tense up.

“Yeah, it’s fine. It’s good,” she mumbled into my chest and wrapped her arms around my waist. I ran my fingers through her hair and was finally able to sleep.


I woke up the next morning and Hayley was gone. I assumed she had already left for work and didn’t want to wake me. I groggily stood up and walked into the bathroom, my eyes still adjusting to the light. When they did adjust, however…

Hayley was standing there naked, her body dripping wet and her hair in a towel. I froze on the spot, my eyes running over every inch of her skin. She looked at me, her face bright red with embarrassment, and I immediately slammed the door shut. “I-I’m sorry! I didn’t know you were in there!” I called through the door, feeling my face turn as red as Hayley’s was.

“It’s okay, I should have locked the door,” she called back and I hit myself on the head. I should have knocked. Her body was perfect, though. I almost wanted to go back in there and kiss her and feel her soft skin on mine… No, that was a ridiculous idea.

She walked out of the bathroom, a towel wrapped around her body and she made her way to the dresser on the opposite side of her room. She didn’t look at me, probably still embarrassed about the whole thing.

“You shouldn’t be embarrassed. You’re beautiful.” Fuck, did I just say that?

“T-Thank you,” she blushed as she pulled out some clothes. We fell into an awkward silence until she went into the bathroom to change, locking the door this time. I sighed and walked into the living room, pulling on my coat. I contemplated leaving right then and there, but I felt bad not saying goodbye.

“Hayley,” I called through the bathroom door. She sure was taking a long time. I received no answer and started to panic. “Hayley!”

“Yeah?” I breathed a sigh of relief as she opened the door.

“I was just about to leave, I wanted to say goodbye first.”

“Oh, okay. Bye, Mikes,” she said, pulling me into a hug. She walked me to my car and kissed me goodbye, seemingly recovered from the bathroom incident.

As I walked into Gerard’s apartment I was immediately bombarded with questions.

“Where were you? Why didn’t you come home last night?”

“I was at Hayley’s house. I stayed the night,” I smiled as I recalled how last night ended.

“Oh, okay,” Gee smirked.

“No, nothing happened. I mean, we kissed, we cuddled, but that was it.”

“Hey, I didn’t say anything,” he chuckled. “By the way,” he lowered his voice to a whisper, “Frank’s birthday is in a week, I want to do something special for him since it’s his first birthday as a vampire and he’s kind of stuck at 25 forever. I was thinking about taking him on a camping trip, do you think he would enjoy that?”

“Yeah, that sounds really nice, Gee,” I answered.

“Thanks, Mikes,” he smiled.

I walked into the bathroom, deciding to take a shower when I was met with a naked Frank having just finished one.

“God fucking damn it, not again!” I yelled as I slammed the door shut. “Sorry, Frank,” I called as I walked to my room. “Does anybody lock their fucking doors?” I muttered as I collapsed on my bed. I turned my phone on and texted Hayley, although I knew she wouldn’t see it until her break.
