Just One More Bite

Different World

Somehow, I managed to get enrolled as a freshman in none other than Belleville High, literally one block from my apartment. Before heading out the door with twenty minutes to spare, I ran chilling fingers through my raven black hair, which appeared to be a rat's nest above my head. Long strokes of a comb untangled it easily, and I smiled in my success. I take one last look into the mirror.

Yes, I have a reflection. I am real, so I reflect light off my body into the spectrum. Hasn't every superstitious person heard of the light spectrum, that everything but the smallest things, atoms, reflect light?

I let out a deep sigh and observe every detail of my outfit. Long, average black jeans conceal my legs, followed by black converse topped off with a Misfits tee plus a Metallica hoodie. My attention relocates to the center of my pale face, my eyes outlined in eyeliner. Damn, I look dead. I pulled out one of Mikey's tanning lotions, and pass some on my finger. My eyes widen, and I see that the lotion is bright orange. I cuss in frustration and put away the product, washing my hands soon afterwards. I choose defeat, and decide dying might as well be my latest fashion. Well, if not a fashion statement, it might as well be a fucking deathwish.

I stumble towards my lockers when I arrive, disgusted from all the students' habits. I only thought slutty and bitchy girls existed in college. I stand corrected.

One of them had their filthy eyes on me, and slumped towards the ivy lockers as I gathered my things. Lipstick that was way too red caught my attention, and I cringed lightly and said a polite hello.

Liquid started to trickle up my throat, and I swear I could have thrown up. Instead, I keep my calm. Wow. The world is ugly. I notice her hair is a bleach blonde, wispy and pulled to the side in some sort of messy bun. Her clothes consisted of a transparent Hollister tee, orange shorts, and white Vans. Don't get me wrong, Vans are awesome (Warp Tour) but the rest of her disturbed me.

"You must be new around here," she whispered seductively. "I can show you around."

"N-no," I reject, stuttering in the process. " I like to explore myself."

" How about I show you the bases?" she murmured in a dark tone. "Unless you want to discover, yourself?"

Is she seriously flirting with me? I mentally laugh, but turn to her seriously before getting up and leaving to homeroom.

"I don't play sports," I respond.

I step into homeroom and take a seat in the center. I don't want to be the attention grabber sitting in the front, answering every question, actively participating, and stuff. But, I don't want to be that stereotypical loner that sits in the very back in solitude. The center is perfect for me, no shame and no blame. The bell rings, and a student slips into the seat next to mine. He coughs briefly before speaking. "Cool merch," he comments.

Damn. I guess the world isn't so ugly after all.
