- My grandmother just died, Alice.

Alice stood there in silence not knowing what to say or what to do, she was expecting a whole lot of things except this one. Gerard had the saddest face she could ever imagine, What does one say when a loved one dies? Are there even any correct words?

She rushed towards Gerard and without any thinking she hugged him, at first it seemed like he was surprised because he just stood there with his body completely tense, but after some seconds he relaxed and began hugging her too, embracing her body into his. Alice was surprised when Gerard started sobbing into her shoulder, Gerard's grandma must have been really special for him... she didn't know what to do first but then she started caressing his hair, trying to calm him down.

Alice didn't know how much time had passed since they started hugging, but it felt natural. She felt how Gerard started calming down and finally they separated. She looked at Gerard's face, his eyes were red and watery, and he seemed to think about this because he looked another way rapidly.

- The funeral it's tomorrow... - said Gerard quietly.
- I wanna go with you.

Gerard turned to her again with surprised eyes.

- A-are you sure, Alice? you don't have to I mean, it's going to be really... - but he couldn't finish he just looked down to his feet.

- Yes, I am sure.

Gerard just smiled still looking at his feet.

- Thank you...-he said.

They stood there again for an awkward minute before Alice spoke.

- Have you ate something besides the hot cakes in the morning?

- He shooked his head looking up to her again.

Alice had an awesome idea.

- Let's go out Gerard, let's have dinner somewhere, somewhere in Jersey we haven't been to. - She said excited at the idea she just had. -My mom is already sleeping she'll never notice, what about your parents?

- U-um... they're not in the house, they'll arrive tomorrow afternoon for the funeral.

- And what about Mikey? - Alice wished she hadn't asked that, Gerard face turned even sadder

- I haven't told him yet... he was sleeping already when my parents called...

- Gerard...

- Yes?

- Let's just go out, forget about everything.- she said looking straight to his green/hazel eyes, those mesmerizing eyes, she couldn't help to love looking at.

Gerard stared at her eyes too for a second, before nodding and smiling weakly but sweetly.

- That's what I wanted to see, let's go.- Alice took her wallet from her night stand and immediately grabbed Gerard by his hand and dragged him to the window again.
She started climbing down the wall, followed after a few seconds by Gerard, finally she got to the ground and after a few seconds Gerard was by her side again.

- So... what are we gonna do first? it's really late.- said Gerard still sounding confused.

- Well, I'm starving and so do you, let's go to Denny's! .- Alice said sounding perhaps overly excited, she wasn't used to this kind of adventures.

Gerard giggle at her.
- Okay you crazy pumpkin.- he said causing her to blush a little.- let's go get my car first.

So they started walking towards Gerard's house, it was a path that Alice was beginning to memorize already.

When they arrived to his house every light was turned off, and it would seemed as if nobody was in there, she felt a sting of pain imagining how Mikey would wake up in the morning without knowing his grandma had just passed away, and how Gerard would have to tell him, and be responsible for him as his big brother.

She dismissed those thoughts as quickly as she could, she had to distract Gerard from all that mess at least for tonight.

- Your car is here, mademoiselle. - Alice turned around and saw Gerard opening the passenger's door of a black Renault 18. She blushed slightly, he was having that effect on her quite often now.

- Thank you, Sir. - Alice giggled. She sat on the passenger's seat and Gerard closed the door. the car smelled as cozy as his house did, a mixture of pumpkin latte and black coffee. She was starting to notice that Gerard loved coffee so much.

- In a few seconds Gerard was sitting in the pilot's seat beside her.

- So... to the remotest Denny's and beyond!.- Gerard said starting the engine.

Alice felt like if a balloon of happiness started growing inside her stomach as soon as Gerard step on the accelerator
