The Only Hope For Me Is You
Sorry How It Ends This Way.
I approach the security guard standing behind the desk, which is placed between two elevators.
"Um, excuse me?" I ask feebly.
The guard looks up at me from behind a newspaper for a spilt second and looks back down.
Um, rude?
I try again, a little more sternly this time.
"Excuse me sir."
He folds the top half of the newspaper down, just enough for me to see his entire face this time.
"Yes?" He spits irritatedly.
"My friend was brought here about an hour ago, I'd like to see him."
"So go see him."
With that snide remark he flips the newspaper up again, completely pissing me off. I reach over the desk and snatch the paper out of his hand.
"Look here you son of a bitch." I growl through gritted teeth.
"Today is not the fucking day to try and piss me off. My friend, Gerard Arthur Way was taken in about an hour ago. Based on how he was before he came here, he might die."
I wave the paper aggressively in his face,
"THIS, is less important than my friends well-being and it's yesterday's fucking paper."
I slam the paper to the ground.
"Now, look in the fucking computer and find where the fuck my friend is, because if he's dead so help me God-" The guard throws his hands up in defeat,
"Okay man, just calm down! I was just kidding with you, sheesh." The swivels his chair to type on the computer, this takes at least one minute.
"Uh, room 12-C"
"Thank you." As I turn, walking toward the elevators behind him he shouts.
"Hey! I would like to read my newspaper!" Gesturing toward the mess I just made.
"So go read it then." Giving him the ultimate sass pressing the button for the twelfth floor as the elevator doors close, ending our conversation.
I position my self in the corner of the steel box, trying to steady my breathing.
Going to see Gerard like this is freaking me out, and my claustrophobia isn't helping one bit.
Squeezing my eyes shut, I focus on my breathing, counting the tones until I get to the twelfth floor. I step out of the elevator only to be greeted by shouts.
"Frank!" I turn to my right and see a waiting room full of my friends.
"Guys?" Ray grabs me for a tight hug.
"Where were you! We were shitting ourselves wondering if anything happened it you!" I manage to wriggle myself out of Ray's grip.
"Um, that's not important right now." I say, trying to avoid explaining my evening, "where's Gerard? Is he okay?"
Mikey gives me a hug, not one as violent as Ray's.
"He was up a minute ago, he kept asking where you were." I take a step back and look at Mikey.
"Wh-what? Why would he be asking for me?" Bob shrugs,
"I don't know. I mean everyone else was right by his bed when he woke up, but the first thing out of his mouth was 'where's Frank?' It kinda pissed me off, but whatever." Mikey rolls his eyes,
"Dude, what doesn't piss you off." Bob gets out of his chair,
"Why aren't you mad? You're his brother! He look one look at you, at all of us, and asked where Frank was! Don't you think that's a bit weird?" Mikey opens his mouth to reply, but Ray interrupts,
"Guys, it doesn't matter anymore! All that matters is we're all here and safe." Mikey nods and Bob throws himself back into his chair, clearly pissed off.
"Come one Frank, Gerard is this way." Ray puts an arm around my shoulder and leads me to Gerard's room, he stops me just outside the door.
"Frank, I have to warn you. It's not pretty." I nod firmly,
"I know." He pats me on the back as he begins to walk away.
"I'm glad you're safe." I smile at him as I push the door open. I cover my mouth at the sight.
Gerard is lying on the bed, his sweaty hair clinging to his forehead with various tubes sticking out of his arms and connecting to bags of fluids.
"Oh Gerard." I whisper as I approach him slowly.
Kneeling by his bed, I brush his hair off his face, revealing the oxygen tube trailing from his nose to behind his ear.
"Gee, I'm so sorry." Apologizing to him for about the thousandth time in these past two days. I've mean't every single last 'I'm sorry' I have ever said to him. Every last one. Looking to his monitor, I can see this steady heartbeat. Up down. Up down. Up down.
"Gerard? Gee, wake up. I know you can hear me." I grab his hand.
"Gee please, I'm here now. You don't have to ask anymore I'm here now. Just open your eyes, and see me." I plead, my voice cracking.
"These past couple of days have been complete shit. They've only been that way because I wasn't with you. I could barely survive two days without you. Please don't let me go a lifetime without. I need you, without you I'm a mess." A single tear rolls down my cheek.
"I need you Gerard. I, I love you." I bring my head down to Gerard's thigh. "I love you. I love you. I love you I love you I love you."
"I love you too." My head snaps up to Gerard's closed eyes.
"G-Gerard?"
"Vincent says you were right." I scrunch my eyebrows,
"Gerard? What are you saying?"
"Vincent never left." A loud beep pierces my ears, as nurses rush in.
No.
