chapter 2

Today was all the shaking boy could think about, today was the day he had been planning for months now and it was finally here, he was going to come out to his mother. He was so afraid and nervous and anxious, but then again who wouldn’t be in this situation. He kept changing positions in the splintery wooden chair he was sitting in, unable to get comfortable. He wishes his father were around, his father was always able to comfort him but he was gone. The nervous mess was sitting at the kitchen table waiting for his mom to come home. He had set up everything nicely, dinner made and set neatly on the table. It was his mom’s favorite, pasta, chicken, and cheesy garlic bread. The smells filling the house making the young man sick to his stomach but he tried to keep a straight face for when his mother came in. He heard the door creak open followed by the familiar clacking of his mom’s heels. As soon as his mother came into the kitchen he almost vomited, nervousness hitting him harder than ever. “Aw Gerard you made dinner thank you so much, oh and its my favorite how sweet.” His mother stated with a cheerful, caring voice. Gerard tried to utter a response but all he could do was shakily nod his head. “What’s wrong Gee? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” His mother said as she sat at the table digging into the lovely dinner her son had made. “M-mom I um I t-think well I know actually um well I…” He looked up at his mother’s concerned face, tears brimming his eyes. “Go on Gerard. You can tell me anything.” His mother’s sweet smile appearing on her aged face. “Mom I’m G-gay, I like boys.” He flinched waiting for his mother to be angry or disappointed but she wasn’t mad she got up out of her seat and simply kissed him on the cheek. “Oh dear Gee did you really think I wouldn’t accept you for who you choose to love? I just want you to be happy.” She stated tears streaming down her face. The 17 year-old boy was relieved and pulled his mother into a tight hug. “I love you mom. Thank you.”
“Gerard I know its been hard since your father died but you can always talk to me.” Tears were now streaming fast down Gerard’s relieved face. He was so happy and felt as if he had weights lifted from his shoulders and his mother saw that in his face. “I think I’m going to go to bed now mom I’m exhausted, Goodnight.” He spoke getting up and giving his accepting mother a kiss on her head and trotting to his room. He laid on his springy mattress content with how his life was going as he closes his eyes and drifting off to sleep.
