chapter 1
The scarring memories still fresh in the broken boys mind as he sits on the cheap, scratchy seat of the almost empty train. He didn’t know where he was going or what was going to happen, he didn’t really care about those things right now but he just wanted to get far away from his family, his friends, his school, just get out of town he couldn’t stay not after what happened moments before.
“Mom, Dad I have something to tell you.” Frank gripped the table hard, the smell of the dried chicken and mashed potatoes his mom made for dinner making him sick to his stomach, Along with the aching nervousness. “What is it Frankie?” His mother’s caring smile gave Frank a little courage to carry on what he was about to say. “Um w-well I uh-“ “Spit it out Frank.” His father spoke impatiently. “I’m gay.” The 16 year-old boy spoke so soft and quietly that no one could hear. “What was that Frank?” Frank didn’t know what to say, everything in his mind was buzzing he was getting dizzy; everyone was turning into nothing in his eyes. “I said I am gay!” he shouted loud enough for his neighbors to hear. His mother dropped her fork onto her plate causing a seemingly loud clang to ring out into the intense silence. “What makes you think you are?” His mother said raising her voice. “Well I-I like b-boys.” Frank was shaking everywhere he was scared and wanted to just take everything back but it was too late. “Faggot!” His dad roared, throwing Frank against the wall by the collar of his shirt. “Sinner! How dare you! We gave you everything and you repay us with this?!” His usually sweet mother said in a raised voice, her words feeling like knives being shoved into Frank’s heart. Suddenly his mother slapped him across the face causing a red hand print to appear on the confused boys face. Hot tears streaming down Frank’s smooth cheeks causing the hand print to sting but Frank didn’t care about the physical pain, he felt as he had just shattered and he fell to his knees. “You’re a disgusting faggot! Get up!” His Father wacking the back of Franks head.
“Go to your room! Your grounded! Never come out of there ever!” His so-called Father yelled, rage in his voice. He picked Frank up by the shirt once again and threw him into his room, slamming the door on his way out. All Frank could do was shatter into a million sharp pieces of glass. He cried so hard he almost passed out, throwing up on the floor instead. He didn’t know what to do but he decided they didn’t need him around, they didn’t want him. They said they’d always love him, it was only a lie. The mess of snot and tears and bile got up and started packing his back pack. They don’t want him of course they wouldn’t he was worthless and a faggot. Frank jumped out his window into the freezing country air nipping at the toes exposed from the holes in his shoes. He started to walk towards the train tracks, leaving all he’s ever known and never looking back.
