The innocence of our being

'So, frank, he got sick pretty quickly, then?' I nodded my head. 'Yes, he had to be hospitalized for a while.' He raised an eyebrow. 'please, do tell.'
***Flashback****
'So, Gee what do you want to do today?' I asked him over the phone. 'uh, i'm not feeling too great, Frankie. I think i'm just going to stay in bed for today, alright?' I was pretty worried. 'yeah, that's fine Gee. Do you want me to come over, I can bring you something?' I heard him gasp in pain and stood up out of my chair. 'nevermind, Gee. That's not a question. I'm coming over.' I said then hung up before he could protest. I slipped on my vans and grabbed my keys. I hopped in my car and drove down to his house. When I got there, I just went in. His parents are never home and the door is always unlocked. I went down to his room and saw him laying on his side on his floor. I ran over to him and got on my knees. 'Gee! Are you okay?' He tried to talk but just grabbed his sides and started to cry. 'Gerard, I'm calling 911!' I hopped up and grabbed my phone. I dialed 911. '911 what's your emergency?' I panicked. 'uh, m-my boyfriend is having horrible side pains, I need and ambulance.' 'okay, what's the address?' I told her the address and she told me the ambulance would be here in a while. I sat down on the floor and laid Gerard's head in my hands. 'F-frankie... it hurts so bad.' I started to cry and I held his hand. I ran my hand through his hair and whispered to him. 'I know, Gee, I know.'
A few minutes later, an ambulance came and a few men lifter Gerard from my lap and put him on a gearney. I followed the ambulance in my car since they wouldn't let me ride with Gerard. When we got to the hospital, they wheeled him away and I was stuck in the waiting room. I was flipping out. I heard my phone ring and answered it. 'hello?' 'Hey frank!' It was Jaymie. I sat down in a chair. 'Jaymie... Gerards in the hospital.' I heard her gasp. 'What, why?' I shook my head. 'I don't know, but can you please come up here? I don't want to be alone.' 'Yeah of course, Frankie.' She said then hung up. I put my headphones and listened to music while waiting for her. About ten minutes later, the front doors opened, and Jaymie, Kellin, Vic, Jack, and Alex walked in. They saw me and rushed over to me. I turned off my music and took my headphones off. Jaymie was the first to speak. 'So do you know what's wrong with him?' She asked me. I shook my head. 'All i know is he was having really bad side pains. I don't know anything else.' They all sighed in unison just as a doctor came out. He walked over to us. 'Are you all here for Gerard Way?' We all nodded our heads. 'Okay, well he is awake and you can go see him.' He told us the room number and all but me started to walk toward the room. I, however, stopped the doctor. 'Excuse me, but do you know what's wrong with him?' He looked at me. 'He has Osteosarcoma.' Then he turned and left. I pulled out my phone and googled it. Osteosarcoma........Bone cancer. My heart dropped and all of my breath left my body. I put my phone back in my pocket and ran as fast as I could to the room the doctor told me Gee was in. I turned the corner and saw him laying in the hospital bed. Everyone turned to look at me. Jaymie ran to my side. 'Frank, you don't look so good.. are you okay?' i shook my head and ran to Gerard. I wrapped my arms around him and laid my head on his chest and began to sob. He started stroking my hair. 'Did he tell you?' I nodded my head. He pulled my chin up so I was looking at him. ;It will be okay, Frankie. I promise. I am starting treatment next week.' I nodded my head and kissed him. 'So...what is wrong with you, Gerard?' Vic asked. 'I have bone cancer.' He said like it was nothing. To hear him say it.... killed me. I looked over at all of them and they looked completely shocked. Jaymie started to bawl and Kellin went and wrapped her in his arms. Vic covered his mouth with his hands. Jack's eyes were practically bulging out of his head, and Alex was silently crying.
***Flashback over****
'Wow, Frank. that's upsetting to hear.' He says to me. 'I nod my head and wipe away a few stray tears. 'It's upsetting to say.'
