The MCR Games

Gerard's POV

After a sleepless night, I find myself walking to the pods with Mikey.
This is it, it's finally happening. Not that I ever wanted it to happen. Who would? The careers, I could imagine. Their bloodthirsty mind state is all I can see from most of them, and it's freaky. Knowing that there's a weapon out there with your name on it. There's a canon waiting to sound when you're gone. You know you're never gonna hear your own canon, which is probably one of the scariest thoughts of it all.
As soon as we're in the darkened room, I stop and look over at Mikey. "I changed my mind." I say. I don't wanna do this."
He looks at me with pity in his eyes. "Gee, it's too late. You have to do this."
No. Please. Let them kill me right here right now. I just need something to escape...that."
He thinks for a second. "Look, Gerard, I know all of this is a pile of shxt. It is, I'm not gonna lie. And for no good reason but revenge on what they did themselves. But there are reasons for you to go out there. and give it your best shot."
"Oh, really? What?"
'60 seconds.' I hear the robotic voice say from the speaks in the corner of the room. No. I'm not gonna do this.
"Your sister. Juniper. The one you told me and the whole world about."
I stop talking, the seconds seem to fly by.
"You have to have your last time."
"I'm not gonna last out there, Mikey." I say, breathing quicker in adrenaline.
"Yes you are." he says. "Promise me-no-promise Juniper that you'll win this thing. For her."
I gulp and look at the pod.
'30 seconds.'
"No."
"Yes."
"...Yes." I say, shutting my eyes and thinking about no one else but the one person I need to do this thing for. I promise. I will win this.
'10 seconds.'
I slowly walk into the pod and look out at Mikey through the crystalline glass. But that's when the pod starts to move upwards out into the open.
"I'll try and help you the best that I can Gee, I swear!" he shouts up at me as I leave earshot.
And those were the last words I can grab on to, as my own fears start to come alive...
