Give Me a Reason to Believe
Chapter 6
"You're what?" I laughed. He had to be joking
"I'm in the band. Well was, we broke up last year." He replied seriously. Ok, so maybe he wasn't joking. I took a seat in the arm chair and just stared at them.
He went on to explain everything he could about the band. It turns out he's actually from New Jersey and witnessed 9/11. That wasn't something I expected. It explained his accent, he clearly wasn't a Californian but I never bothered to ask where he was really from. I didn't think it was important. Clearly I was wrong.
He was in the band with his brother Mikey and two other guys, Ray and Frank. I'd never heard if any of them. He talked about each album and how it came to be. The song I heard in Hot Topic was a single on their second album. He briefly mentioned how the band saved his life but elaborated on how it saved countless others. He ended it off by telling me how he and Lindsey met and how they got married backstage at a concert then two years later Bandit was born.
"So that about sums it all up." He fraud after finishing the story."what do you think."
"I think, that this is a lot to take in."
"I understand." Lindsey said.
"No I don't think you do understand."I snapped."I just found out the people the adopted me are in famous bands? Before bringing me home did it ever cross your mind to tell me?"
"We thought you had already know."Gerard confessed.
"And why on earth would you think that? Shit, I'd never heard of either band until today."
"We thought that's why you attempted to rob us. We thought you were a fan who wanted some money. After we found out you lived in the orphanage we figured you needed a home and you job the rest. If you didn't rob is because you were a fan then why us?"
"Well why not."I answered monotone."It was all I could think of doing to help pass time while living in that shit hole. Yours was the only one on the block I hadn't hit yet and I finally did."
"It was all for shits and giggles basically." Lindsey commented.
"Basically." I confirmed.
"Well I guess that explains a lot. If you were a fan in pretty sure you would've been asking a lot of questions. Instead you ask none."
"You adopted me and you thought I was a fan. That didn't spark any concern, I could've been a crazy person for all you knew."
"Being a fan didn't really make a difference. As for being crazy, I knew you weren't. There was something in your eyes that assured me of that." Gerard said reaching for my hand but I put it back just as I had done with Bandit.
Gerard cleared his throat and stood up and Lindsey followed close behind.
"I'm sure this is a lot to take in. We'll leave you alone to kind of come to terms with it. Lindsey said you wanted to hear more songs from the band, the CDs are there if you want to listen to them." Gerard stated as he exited the family room.
I didn't look at then but instead at the CDs placed on the coffee table. When I was sure they were gone I grabbed the CDs and ran to my room. I locked the door and carefully put the first CD in the radio that was in the room.
For the next four to five hours I just listened to My Chemical Romance. Their songs were all really good, I couldn't pick a favorite or least favorite. I had maybe a favorite off each album but not in general. The messages behind each all meant something to me. I could almost relate them all to my fucked up life.
Part of me still refused to believe Gerard's story though. It just seemed so far fetched. I even resorted to researching them on my phone because I didn't believe it. Every single image I found of the band had him in it so their was no denying it. He was telling the truth. I managed to find a fan page where it was a whole bunch of stories. Countless people saying how the band saved their life. All their stories bothered me though.
I mean, I could real are to not than half but I still felt uncomfortable reading them. Not because they were depressing but rather because they were moving. All these people overcame problems with the help of one band, yet I couldn't overcome mine with the help of countless experts. It made me wonder whether I would ever over come them.
When I finally had enough if reading them I put the music louder and grabbed a few pieces of paper from my bag. As the music blared in the background I sat on my bed and began writing a letter to my sister. A letter telling her everything. A letter informing her that I was adopted. A letter reminding her of my birthday in 2 weeks. A letter I would probably never send her.
Oh my gosh that's great that you met them! I wish I lived in CA just because it seems like that is where everything happens. Glad to see your chapter update. It gives nice insight on Charlotte's character and who Carly is. Wonder why she hasn't been around...guess I'll just have to wait and see. :)
