Give Me a Reason to Believe

Chapter 12

I was back in my old house. I had no recollection how I got there or what I was even doing there. But I was there. I wondered down the familiar hallway into my old room. It looked exactly the same as when I left. Everything was actually exactly the same.
I sat on the bed and glanced around the room. Suddenly a young girl burst into the room and I froze. She didn't see me and ran to the corner of her room where she curled into a ball. As her sobs became more audible I cautiously approached her.
"Are you okay?" I asked placing a hand on her shoulder.
She flinched away reminded me of how I reacted at everyone's touch. She looked up at me and I was taken aback. I stared into her frightened brown eyes as she stared back. I wondered if she saw the resemblance, I know I did.
"They won't stop fighting." She whimpered wiping her eye with one hand and pointing at the door with the other.
I turned to look at the door and the moment I did I heard yelling on the other side. A woman and a man were arguing. The context of the argument didn't matter to me, just the argument itself. My stomach twisted into a knot as I my mind forced me to put familiar faces to the voices. I walked around the bed sat next to the frightened girl. I wrapped my arms around her as she buried her head into my chest. Completely unaware of the outcome of the argument, she sobbed as if they were the last tears she would ever cry. These tears were just the beginning though.
"It'll be over soon. It'll be over soon."I repeated.
Silent tears fell from my face. I didn't wipe them away because I did not want to loosen my grip on the girl. We both sat there together, both crying. It seemed like I sat there for ages, holding my 6 year old self, helping her through the beginning of the end.

I shot up in bed and looked furiously at my surroundings. I was in my room again, my room at the Way's house. I rubbed my face with my hands in an attempt to calm my breathing. It wasn't helping.
"It was just a dream" I told myself. "Only a dream."
I grabbed my phone off the nightstand. I had three messages from Andrew. I ignored those for the time being and glanced at the time. 4:47. I had a little more that an hour till Mikey got here and I needed it. I needed to calm myself and push that dream way back. I closed my eyes and focused on my breathing. It was jagged but gradually it got slower.
When my heart beat was at a normal pace again I looked at the texts.
Andrew- Hey
Andrew- It's Andrew by the way
Andrew- I swear I feel like this is the wrong number....so I'm just going to stop texting...sorry I laughed lightly at the last text because it was sent about 15 minutes after the previous. The messages made me feel better for some reason. Just seeing his name on my phone made me feel better.
Me- Hey
Me- It's Charlotte by the way
Me- I swear I didn't give you a wrong number...so can we keep texting now...please.
My phone rang within seconds of the messages being delivered.
Andrew- It's a relief to know it was really your number. I could have sent messages to some pedophile or something. I'd like to keep texting. :)
Me- That would have been awful. And I'm glad.
We continued texting for the remainder of the hour. I learned quite a lot about him. He moved here because his dad's work transferred their family here. His company started a new business here and they needed his dad to help run it. He also said his mom worked from home as a baker
He even asked about my parents. I wasn't sure who to tell him about and wasn't comfortable with either set of guardians. The only real personal thing I told him was that it was my birthday today, and it was only because he kind of forced it out of me.
His was October 31, a Halloween baby which I thought was pretty cool. He said his parents held him back a year in 1st grade and that's why he was turning 18 this year instead of 17.
"Charly! Uncle Mikey's here!" Bandit yelled from the other side of my door.
"Okay coming!" I yelled back staring at my reflection on my phone.
My eye liner had smeared while I slept so I had dark circles around my eyes. I tried rapidly to wipe it away, I managed to get most of it off before I finally have up. I braces myself for what was to come next and walked into the living room.
Mikey was standing with his back towards me and thankfully he was alone. He was talking to Gerard and Lindsey. They didn't notice me standing in the hallway at first but eventually Gerard turned to me.
"Ahh Charlottle."he said motioning me to join them. "This is my brother Mikey."
Mikey turned to face me and stuck his hand out."Hi, Charlotte it's really nice to meet you."

Oh my gosh that's great that you met them! I wish I lived in CA just because it seems like that is where everything happens. Glad to see your chapter update. It gives nice insight on Charlotte's character and who Carly is. Wonder why she hasn't been around...guess I'll just have to wait and see. :)
