Thick As Thieves [Mikey Way]

Chapter Eleven

Mikey’s POV

I heard her scream and her grip on my hands loosened.

My eyes flew open and I saw her curled in a ball in the dust with her hands over her ears and tears flooding from her eyes.
It broke my heart.
There’s not much else I can say.
Seeing the beautiful, kind girl I’m definitely falling for just lying on the ground, obviously being tormented, broke my heart.

She let out one final scream, a whimper and she blacked out.

I sprang over to her, taking her limp but surely sleeping body in my arms.

That’s when I realized.
I could see.
It worked!

That means she couldn’t be dead!

I shook her gently and wished for a reaction but nothing.
She was barely even breathing.

I shook her again, just hoping she would wake up.

“Drew. Come on…” I whispered and shook her gently but still nothing.

“Don’t shake her. You’ll just give her a killer headache when she finally comes around. Which she will.”

My eyes shot up to where the voice was coming from and I saw a tan boy with chocolate brown hair standing on a tree branch almost directly above Drew and I.

He hopped down and Gerard beat me to the punch.

“Who the fuck are you?” He asked, looking him over.

The boy just ignored him and walked over to me.

Out of complete instinct, I hissed at him.
But he returned it with a growl.

I stared at him for a second.

He just growled at me.
He just fucking growled at me.
What?

“My name is Christian.” He gently took Drew out of my arms. “I’m Drew’s best friend.”

I looked at Christian for a minute, thinking.

“You’re the wolf.” Ray piped up.

Drew often talked about a wolf that she was friends with.
She said they were really close.

Christian smiled, showing off pointed teeth where the huge and powerful canines of a wolf would be.

He gently brushed hair off Drew’s face and I bit into my bottom lip.

I’m not jealous am I?
No.
I’m not jealous.
I just don’t trust this guy…
Right?!

He gently set her down against a tree and crossed her arms in her lap.

Drew had paled a lot and her chest was barely moving.

It was truly horrible to see her like that.

Christian sighed and stood up.

“Give her a little bit of time and she should wake up.” He said and I nodded slowly.

“How do you know her?” Frank asked, sounding almost protective of the girl leaning against the tree.

“I used to be an apprentice hunter but I left to join a pack.” Christian explained.

Frank still seemed sceptical but it didn’t really matter when we heard Drew mutter something in her unconscious state.

I all but dived in front of her, hoping she would wake up.

She moved a little bit and one of her arms fell to her side but, much to my disappointment, she didn’t wake up.

Christian looked at her, but the look on his face showed something other than concern for Drew.

I mean, of course you could see how worried about her he was.
But there was something else clogging up his mind.
He wore a look of almost guilt on his face.

I sighed and shook certain thoughts out of my head.
For Drew’s sake, I have to sort out what I feel about Christian being here a bit later.

***
The sun was beginning to come up as we ventured deeper and deeper into the forest and further and further away from the road.

Christian had volunteered to carry Drew while we went and I was still trying to get used to not wearing my glasses.

I glanced over at the still sleeping pale girl in the tan boys arms that made her look even paler.
She looked beautiful though.
She looked peaceful.
I know she was in huge amounts of pain only 20 minutes before but at that moment she looked completely at peace.

All of a sudden, Christian stopped dead in his tracks.

He snarled slightly then looked at me.

“Take her.” He said, handing me Drew.

He began running before there was a bright light and in Christian’s place, there was a huge wolf with fur the same colour as Christian’s hair.

There was a hiss from behind us and my head snapped around.

I saw Gerard watching something.
His eyes had turned a deep red and his gaze was set.
He let out the occasional hiss at whatever he was watching.

“Christian, it’s over her!” Gerard yelled suddenly and a dark figure jumped at him.
The only thing stopping me from helping my big brother was the gorgeous hunter girl in my arms.

Christian turned right around and ran back in our direction in a blistering pace.

He ran at the figure that had pinned my brother to the ground and tackled it off him before Frank or ray could step in.

Whatever it was hissed at Christian and he growled right back.

He bit down on the figures shoulder and it let out an agonized scream.

That’s when I recognized it as a vampire.
Not one of us, an evil one.
The ones that Drew hunted.

It seemed that there was only one of them.
Or at least the others didn’t have the balls to come out of their hiding spots.

Christian quickly and easily finished him off and let out a loud howl, I guess to warn other vampires that he wasn’t fucking around.

He gave me another look, I’m guessing he couldn’t speak as a wolf, and I nodded.

“When he gives the signal, run.” I told the guys who just gave me a “How did you figure that out?!” look.

It was complete silence for a few minutes and I looked to Christian who was sitting dead still with his ears in the air.

There was a hiss and Christian scratched at the ground with his paw.

We all knew that was the signal and we shot off into the forest further.
