Just another Killjoy

My eyes opened and focused onto the patch of sunlight streaming through the tattered curtains. Sweat dripped from my forehead and my old Blink-182 shirt clung to my body. I threw the blanket that I was tangled in on the ground and sat up. I rubbed my face and blinked a few times to get the sleep away from my eyes. I got up and grabbed a packet of crackers and a water bottle.

My name is Madeline Lewis. I've been on the run from Korse for a few years now. It's been tough but I know he can't find me.

Korse thought I would be of great use to him. My father trained me how to be a killjoy. My parents were Killjoys, they got taken away from me when I was 15. I'm now 20 years old. I was living by myself in an old shack that I found in zone 8. Everyday I would go into Battery City, cause a mess and then leave, it was fun.

I woke up this morning and felt different. I went to the tiny makeshift closet I had and opened it. What should I wear today? I grabbed the same pair of Purple jeans I always wore and chucked them on the couch I slept on, I grabbed an old torn up AC/DC shirt, My black leather jacket, a bright red handkerchief and my black fingerless gloves. I got changed and looked at the tiny bit of mirror left on the wall. I looked into it and combed my multicolored hair with my fingers.

My hair was my favorite feature. It went from a pastel pink to a pastel purple then finally to a pastel blue. I looked at my face in the mirror and sighed. My eyebrows were straight and dark brown. My eyes were a chocolate brown and my nose was straight but small. My lips were average and fairy floss pink. I picked up the red lipstick I found when going into an abandoned store. I painted my lips with the bold red.

I smiled in the mirror and picked up my mask. I stared at it, my mask only covered half my nose and around my eyes. It was black lace and had a few white diamantes on it with curls stretching across the edge. It was the prettiest thing I owned besides the locket I wore around my neck; the locket was a gold heart and it had a photo of my family on one side and a picture of my friends on the other.

I grabbed my glittery purple bag and put some food and water in it. I placed a pair of extra clothes in, a radio and picked up my keys, opening the front door and sighing to myself. My ray gun was held tightly in my hand and my eyes glanced up to see a Drac. I closed the door casually and raised my gun, I smirked and pulled the trigger. The Drac fell to the ground with smoke coming from between it's eyes. I smiled faintly before jumping on my black beauty (she was a black motorbike) and turning the radio on. I put my gun in the holster attached to the motorbike, put my helmet on and sped off.


A catchy song played and I hummed along to it. When the song ended I turned the radio off.
I drove past a couple of zones before my eyes landed on what had seemed to be a diner. When I passed it I saw someone lift the curtain to the window. I waved and sped off. Earning a confused smile. Today was the day I went into Battery city. It was an hour or so before I finally reached the wall surrounded place. It looked just as boring as yesterday.

I was 11 years old when the fire destroyed my home, my family was lucky, we left the place as fast as we could. Then BL/ind came and said that 'Everything is fine, you should be happy' and gave out pills to everyone to take. Obviously my Father wasn't going to have it, so he went to get my uncle and we left. My father trained me to become a killjoy 3 months later. My group got bigger and bigger each day, It was nice to have friends that I could count on.

It was on my birthday, I had just turned 15 when Korse came. It was a surprise to say the least, he killed my friends and soon after he ghosted my parents. I hid under the house we lived in and kept quiet. They grabbed my brother and searched the house, "All clear, Madeline is not here sir" I heard one of them say. When they left I couldn't hold it in any longer and cried like a baby.

I revved my engine and went inside the city. I drove around until I found something peculiar. I saw a car with a spider print on it, parked in an ally. I drove my motorbike and looked at it, that is definitely a killjoy car. I grinned a little, 'Why don't I wait for the owner?' My motorbike helmet was still covering my face. I waited on my motorbike until I saw a guy with black shoulder length hair running towards me. Then 3 other guys came running around the corner, behind them were a group of Draculoids.

What the fuck? Really? I guess I could have just gone on my way but whatever. I pulled my Ray gun out and shot five of them down. I kept shooting them until all of them were dead. The guys that were being chased stared at me in confusion. When I shot the last one I blew on the top of my smoking gun and got on my bike. The group of guys were still staring at me. "A thank you would be nice" I purred.

I like being cheeky and flirty around other killjoys. The one with black hair looked at the guy with the curly hair. From the corner of my eye I saw one of the Drac's stumble up. I instantly grabbed my gun and shot it in the head without looking. A gasp came out of the tall one. The red haired one was looking at the Drac's before the alarm went off.

"Shit" I muttered. "Hurry up, I know a safe way out" I shouted to them. They ran to the car and turned it on, I revved my engine and Drove out with them following. I turned around corners and found the road I was looking for. I sped up and grinned at how fast I was going. The hole in the wall behind an old house was still opened, I cheered a little before driving right out of it and met a dusty hill. I kept driving until I met Route Guano. When I did I slowed down so I was driving along with the car.

I could feel two pairs of eyes on me, "Don't you know it's rude to stare?" I announced to them. Two people in the back coughed and I didn't feel like I was being watched anymore. "What zone are you guys from?" I asked the driver. He was the guy with the red hair. "How can we trust you?" He asked back. I laughed before answering. "Oh honey, you can trust me" I said facing the driver. He turned his attention to the tall one in the front with him. They were having a conversation. They needed to hurry up and tell me, I know that a car filled with Drac's will be coming any second. "Zone 6" The red head replied after a second.

"Good, Zone 8. I'll meet you in Zone 6" I said quickly before putting my motorbike to a complete stop. I parked it in the middle of the road before I heard their car screech on the breaks. I rolled my eyes and got my ray gun out. One second later a white BL/ind van came closer before stopping 5 meters from where I stood. A smirk was on my face, I raised the gun and shot the driver. I went to the doors and opened them, five Draculoids were in there holding guns. They must have been shocked because before I shot them they froze. I noticed the group I saved before were standing there.

"Get back in your car" I shouted. I pushed my motorbike into the van with the dead Drac's, I was pretty strong for my size, being only five foot. I slammed the van door closed and pushed the driver over. I jumped into the drivers seat and turned the key that was in the ignition, the car turned on. I pulled my helmet off and blinked my lights to say they can drive now and they drove off. I followed closely behind and saw them pull up at the diner from this morning.

When I got out the one with the curly hair pointed at me, "She has a face!" He exclaimed. I nodded and held my hands out, spinning around once and then bowing. I heard him chuckle.

"Now can you trust me?" I asked the red head.
