Susan's POV

I freeze. It's a coincidence. She probably just has the same name.
"Is everything alright?" she asks.
"Yes, yes fine. It's just..."
No. It's not a coincidence, she resembles him. Even in the way she stands. Everything. I can't help it. I pull her into a warm hug. She looks a little shocked and doesn't hug back.
"Did I say something?" she asks. I let go. "No. Can I ask you something?"
"Yes, of course."
"...You didn't know your father, right?"
She takes a step back suspiciously.
"How did you..."
"It's a long story."
"Did you know him?"
"Yes." I can feel tears falling from my eyes, but I don't care. I think I just saved Gerard's sense of hope.
"How? What's your name?"
"I'm Susan." I extend my hand and she shakes it.
"What are you doing here?"
"Like I said before, it's a long story."
"I've only seen pictures of him. I've heard of him and all, but I've never met him. My aunt told me he died of a heart attack."
So Jacqueline lied to her about it?
"Alice, your father never died."
Her eyes widen. "What?"
"No, he's here, actually. Well, not here here. But in the country."
She doesn't respond. She just looks shocked. Maybe I shouldn't have told her? No, I did the right move. "Hold on for a second." I walk over to the nearest phone booth and type in the number for the phone in our hotel room, wiping away tears at the same time.
"Hello?" I hear Lucy's voice.
"Lucy? Lucy, it's Susan."

Lucy's POV

I sit on the bed, twirling the phone cord in my hand. "Oh, afternoon Susan."
"Hello. There's something that happened. Could you please get Frank?"
"Course." I stand up, setting the phone down on the blanket and go into the living room. "Frankie, Susan's on the phone."
He stands up off of the couch and walks back into our room with a confused expression.
"Hello, Susan?" he says, taking the phone in his hands. He nods as she speaks, but I can't hear the conversation very well. It must be important because his eyes widen with every word. "Alright, I won't tell him yet. I promise." he says. "Thank you, goodbye." and with that he hangs up.
"What happened?" I ask.
"Susan found Alice."
I walk up to him. "She did? Is she sure?"
"She's positive. And now we're going to meet up with them outside the café."
"Alright..."

***********

Frank's POV

We're outside the café and I see Susan beckoning us over. We walk towards her and I can already see the child.
"Is this her?" asks Lucy, looking down at her.
"Yes."
"Why didn't you want me to tell Gerard?" I ask.
"I just think we should wait a bit with him. We wouldn't want to overwhelm him or anything."
"Could someone please just explain to me what's going on?" says Alice in fluent English.
"Yes, sorry Alice." says Susan. "Why don't we go into the café?"
"I can't, remember?" she points to the large white star painted in the window. I cringe at the thought of the treatment they get.
"Why don't you just take off your star?" says Lucy. "It seems like something people would do. It's not like anyone would notice."
"I bet you somebody would."
"Oh, come on. Live on the wild side." she smiles at her.
"Maybe for a little while." she says, smiling and taking off her coat, wrapping it so that the star isn't visible. We walk in and walk over to the cashier.
"I'll get the drinks, and you three go and take a table." says Luce.
We walk over to the table by the window and take a seat.
"I'm guessing you're probably very confused right now." says Susan.
"No kidding." she says.
"Well allow me to explain. Basically Gerard, I mean your father, only just found out about you. And since the death of his lover and his brother. he's been having some tough time accepting death. So, he just needed to make sure you were alive. And that's when all this happened."
"Oh." she looks down. Probably because Susan just openly pointed out that her mother's dead.
"Oi!" I hear a voice shout behind us. "Ich habe Sie bei der Identifizierung Büro gesehen, du Jude bist! Du bist nicht hier sein!"
"Shxt." she says, standing up.
"What? What's he saying?" I ask.
"He says he knows I'm Jewish, and that I'm not supposed to be here."
And with that, the man stands up and starts running towards her.
