Can You Stake My Heart?

Perfect

***Rosalie's POV***

“C’mon Gerard, be serious.” I laughed, looking through the camera lens. The chilly fall air nipped at my nose and brightly colored leaves swirled around us. Gerard leaned against a tree, making silly faces at me.

“Sorry, I can’t help it.” He laughed, coughing and putting a small smile on to replace the goofy grin he had worn. I rolled my eyes and tried to position myself to the lighting. Just as I snapped the picture, Gerard crossed his eyes.

“Gee! I need at least one good photo of you for Photo 1.” I said, stifling a giggled. He winked at me, which made my heart start to race. Gerard finally took a stance against the tree and looked into the camera, no smile on his face, but no frown either. His golden eyes glowed in the yellow and orange background of leaves. The camera clicked, and I waited for the picture to load.

“I might not show up, you know.” He said, walking towards me. I shot my head up in alarm only to see him laughing.

“Don’t scare me like that.” I mumbled and looked at the picture of Gerard. It looked almost unreal, like a painting. I blushed; sometimes I forgot how good looking he was.

“I like it. Let’s shoot more!” He smiled, walking back to the tree. I nodded, knowing that the more pictures I had; the better. The wind picked up and I shivered, earning a chuckle from Gerard.

“We’re all not temperature resistant.” I muttered and returned the camera to the shooting position. Leaves swirled around him, getting me some pretty good shots. His black jacket, shirt, and pants made him stand out in the bright landscape, and I liked it. I suddenly had an idea, and ran up beside him.

“BUT FIRST,” I shouted, positioning the camera to face us, slightly raised above my head.

“Oh god, Rosalie, no!” Gerard groaned, but couldn’t hide the laughter in his voice.

“LET ME TAKE A SELFIE!” I took a picture of us, and hopefully it wouldn’t turn out to be horrible. I giggled as Gerard caught me in a light headlock and kissed the top of my head.

“Let’s get out of the cold, okay?” He said, pulling me forward, still in the headlock. I said okay, struggling to get out of his grasp. It was useless trying to move his hands, so I gave up.

I had near 30 photos of him. I told him I would only need two or three for Photo 1, but I planned to get them all developed. The picture I took of us was actually really cute, and I wanted it framed. We sat in the Starbucks, surrounded by chatty people.

“You know,” He said, stirring his untouched soy latte “The select ensemble tryouts are tomorrow morning at 9.” I choked on my coffee, almost spewing it out onto the table. He raised his eyebrow, giving me a strange look.

“Gerard,” I said trying to catch my breath “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“Why not?” He asked, resting his elbows on the table. I bit my lip, trying to get myself to speak. It was hard to argue with him when he gave me a look with his eyes.

“Because… what if they laugh at me? I’ll be too embarrassed anyway. I’ll probably faint.”

He rolled his eyes at me, and grabbed my hands. Squeezing them gently, he spoke.

“Fuck what they think. You’re great. I’ll try out with you.” I blushed, and sighed.

“Okay, tomorrow at nine.” I agreed. He leaned across the table and pecked me on the lips.

“I’ll see you later.” He whispered, and then he was gone. I had to put my head on the table to stop the dizziness. What was I going to do with myself?

***Gerard’s POV***

I walked towards my dorm, hands in my pockets and eyes tilted downwards. Ever since the night Rosalie saved me, I’ve been thinking. A lot. I knew that she loved me, and I couldn’t even describe how much I loved her.

My world was just one continuous cycle, bleak days and unchanging sunsets. But when she entered the picture… my life lit up like a flame. She added something to my life I haven’t ever experienced. It was like gravity had totally failed me and she was the only thing anchoring me to the ground.

But I also knew how much damage I had caused her. Stress, doubts, fear, pain… she was too young to be going through this kind of stuff. I didn’t want her to throw her life away for me; some heartless monster. I knew I’d eventually have to make a decision, but I couldn’t bear to be without her. I don’t know.

***Rosalie’s POV***

My hands were shaking as Gerard and I watched other people audition on the stage. We were in the theater that was collecting dust; I mean, we were at an art school; not a performing arts school. The girl who was up now was singing Let It Go, and was butchering it. Gerard sniggered, and I threw him a look.

“Sorry.” He mouthed as the girl finished and pranced off the stage. The lady who was in charge shuffled her papers around, and looked around the small theater. She looked about late 30’s, early 40’s, and had natural orange hair.

“Rosalie Ravenhale?” She called. I felt vomit rise in my throat and I began to tremble. Gerard lightly kissed my ear and mumbled into it.

“You’ll do fine. Just focus on me.” He whispered. I slowly got up and walked out of the row and into the aisle. I could feel the eyes of everyone else here burning a hole in my back. I climbed up the stairs to the stage with weak knees, and made my way to the center. Trying to keep my breathing even, I approached the microphone.

“I understand you’ll be singing Son of a Preacher Man, by Dusty Springfield?” The lady asked, eyeing me.

“Yes.” I squeaked. She shook her head and looked down at her notes. A sudden rush of embarrassment flooded my body. She didn’t think I was good enough. My eyes twitched over to Gerard, and he gave me thumbs up.

I took a deep breath and the music began to play.

“Billy-Ray was a preacher's son,
And when his daddy would visit he'd come along,
When they gathered round and started talkin',
That's when Billy would take me walkin',
A-through the backyard we'd go walkin',
Then he'd look into my eyes,
Lord knows to my surprise,”

The lady was looking at me with wide eyes. She frantically scribbled something out on her paper and rewrote something. I smiled and continued to sing, only stronger. I knew I didn’t have to do the whole song, so I would skip to the last verse.

“The only one who could ever reach me,
Was the son of a preacher man.
The only boy who could ever teach me,
Was the son of a preacher man.
Yes he was, he was,
Ooh, yes he was,”

“The only one who could ever reach me,
He was the sweet-talking son of a preacher man.
The only boy who could ever teach me,
I kissed the son of a preacher man.
The only one who could ever move me,
The sweet-lovin' son of a preacher man.
The only one who could ever groove me,
Ahh, ooh, ahh....”

The clapping began immediately after the music stopped. My face felt like it was on fire and I rushed off the stage, back to Gerard. He was standing with open arms. I walked into the hug and tried to calm my breathing, but that was always hard around Gerard.

“You were amazing.” He said, releasing me. I smiled thankfully.

“Gerard Way?” The lady called his name and he gave me a wink. I sat in my seat as Gerard walked up to the stage. When he had reached the microphone, the lady seemed flustered.

“Iahuu… Gerard! Gerard, you will be singing Perfect, by the Smashing Pumpkins?” She fluttered. He gave her a nod and she giggled. My eyes widened at the song. It was what Gerard and I had sung together the first time we ever really hung out. He looked at me and nodded his head, giving me a small smile. I could feel my eyes sting and get dewy. I wiped them on my sleeves, not wanting to look like a huge dork. When the music started, my focus was on Gerard.

“I know we're just like old friends,
We just can't pretend,
That lovers make amends.
We are reasons so unreal.
We can't help but feel that something has been lost.

But please you know you're just like me,
Next time I promise we'll be,
Perfect.
Perfect.
Perfect strangers down the line,
Lovers out of time,
Memories unwind.

So far I still know who you are,
But now I wonder who I was...”

He grabbed the microphone and glanced at me. I never wanted him to stop singing; his voice was like a drug.

“Perfect,
You know this has to be,
We always we're so free,
We promised that we'd be,
Perfect.”

The lady stood up and clapped her hands.

“Brava! Brava!” She cried, as Gerard exited the stage. In a flash he was sitting next to me. I kissed his cheek, smiling.

“That was amazing. I love your voice.” I said. He smiled at me, his eyes gleaming.

“Thank you, that means a lot.” He grinned.

“Alright ladies and gentlemen, a list will be posted in two days’ time in the main building. Please check it! And for those of you who didn’t know, my name is Ms. Dahlia. Good day!” She exasperated, glancing at Gerard. She gave him a sweet smile, but glared at me. I snickered.
“Looks like you have an admirer.” I laughed quietly. Gee rolled his eyes, smiling.

“Don’t worry. I’m all yours.” He whispered, leaning over and brushing his lips against my neck. I shivered at his touch. My eyes wandered to the girl who had sang Let It Go, and she was giving me the evil eye. I poked Gerard, and motioned towards the girl. He glanced up from my neck, and waved to her. She gave a huff and stormed away, angrily stomping her heels.

“Oh boy,” I laughed, leaning my head on Gerard’s shoulder. “This is gonna be fun.”

You could have it to where he turns her... Just stein' she wouldn't die and he wouldn't want her blood, but she would continue to smell like a human because she's special or somethin' (I'm just saying this you don't have to do this at all)

;-;
