Can You Stake My Heart?

Point of No Return

***Rosalie's POV***

I stood before the strange rock, looking into the vast darkness that was ahead of me. A light drizzle had begun, and no wind whistled in my ear. I didn’t see any vampires around, which was good… and bad. It would probably be easier to get caught so they’d take me right to Gerard, but then again they could also rip my head off.

Taking a deep breath and turning on my phone flashlight, I stepped past the rock. Shivers ran up and down my spine as I gradually made my way deeper into the forest. The branches that snapped under my feet only heightened my anxiety, making it hard not to scream. “For Gerard. Do it for Gerard.” I thought to myself as the beam landed on the mine entrance. My hands shook as I slowly walked up to the mine, and entered.

I stayed as close to the wall as I could, trying to stay in the shadows. I switched my flashlight off, making the hall dark besides the red candles that illuminated it. The corridor was empty and silent, making my quiet footsteps echo. I tried to keep my breathing steady, but it was near impossible. I had not seen one vampire since I had passed the rock, which meant no one was here, or they didn’t smell me yet.

Finally, the big gate came into view. It was raised off the ground, just enough so I could squeeze through it. The dent Gerard had left was still very prominent in the center, and this comforted me for some reason. Thinking of him comforted me, I guess. Maybe if I just kept my thoughts on him, I’d be okay. I slowly knelt down, and put myself on my stomach. Then I slid through the gate, pushing myself up immediately. I looked around the room. It was empty, besides the table that held the head of Jane in the far corner, and the shackles that still hung from the ceiling. Shuddering, I moved along the wall, searching for any door that might lead me to Gerard.

Once I had reached the other side of the room, I had found a solid black door that lead down marble stairs. “This has to be something.”I said to myself and descended the stairs. They went on and on, and eventually my legs grew tired. Beads of sweat sat on my brow and threatened to spill over. I huffed as the stairs continued, and right as I thought I would collapse, they ended. I nearly jumped off the last step and bent over, vomit rising in my throat. Taking deep breaths, I willed myself not to spew chunks, and to just rest. After five solid minutes of recovery, I walked down the hall the stairs had led me to. At the end, there was an opening to a large room. I cautiously stepped inside the room, which was pitch black.

“Hello?” I barely whispered. There was a scuffle of feet and I froze. Just as I thought I’d be killed, flames roared to life in great iron braziers scattered in the corners, painting the room with yellow light. I stepped back, quickly looking around the room. In the middle, chained to the back wall in large, heavy black chains, was Gerard. His chest was a burning red, welts covering his marble torso. He lifted his head, and saw me.

“Gerard!” I sobbed, and ran towards him. Careful not to touch his chest, I cupped his face in my hands and brought his lips to mine. The kiss was short lived, for he pulled back, a look of terror in his eyes.

“You need to leave! Go!” He said, his voice scratchy and desperate. I was taken aback by his reaction.

“What? I’m here to get you!” I cried softly, stroking his cheek. His eyes burned into mine, a look of pain plastered on his face.

“Don’t you see? That’s what he wants. He-” Gerard was cut off by a sound of heavy metal coming in contact with stone. I whipped around to see the large opening in which I had entered blocked by a metal gate. I felt my face lose color when he stepped out of the shadows. My lips numbly formed his name.

“Amos.”

He smiled sickeningly, sauntering towards me. I made a small squeaking nose and walked away from Gerard, towards him. Stopping a few feet away from him, I cleared my throat.

“Let him go.” I shook, clenching my fists at the sides of my hips. The smile remained on his face as he brushed his hair out of his murderous eyes.

“Hmm, I don’t know Rosalie. He just got here. You’re incredibly fast.” He purred, circling me. I stood my ground, and closed my eyes. Now was not the time to freak out.

“I know. And I want you to let him go, let us leave. Please.” I tried to make my voice even, but it cracked. I heard him cackle and opened my eyes. He stood inches from me, staring at me hungrily. Amos reached out and touched my chin, but I jerked away. He laughed again, amused.

“Fine. I’ll let him go,” He said, backing away from me. My heart leaped at his words, but I should have known it was too good to be true.

“On one condition.” He continued. I bit my cheek, holding in my tears. Glancing over at Gerard, I could see he was shaking his head. He mouthed “No” to me, but it was too late to turn back now. Slowly, I turned to face him.

“Anything.” I pleaded, lacing my fingers together. He moved closer to me again, but this time he wrapped his arms around my waist and brought his face to my ear. It was useless trying to break from his stone grasp, so I didn’t even try. I could hear Gerard growl behind me, but I focus on Amos’s proposition.

“You stay here.” He murmured, moving his hands up and down my back. I gasped, and I heard Gerard cry out.

“No! Rosalie, NO!” Gerard cried, thrashing in his shackles. Amos released me and backed away, the smile gone from his lips. The choice was clear to me the second it came out of his lips, but I couldn’t bring myself to speak.

“Rosalie! Look at me!” Gerard sobbed. I turned my head, my vision blurry with tears. He was hunched over, sobbing.

“You have so much more to live for! I don’t! You have a life to live, people to meet! You have a future!” He cried, pleading. I shook my head, and smiled sympathetically.

“I don’t have a future without you, Gerard.” I said numbly, and turned back to Amos. He roared behind me, still pleading.

“So, do you end your days with me, or send your lover to his grave?” He hissed, walking over to a barrel that had the word Kerosene on it.I covered my mouth with my hands to stifle the sobs.

“Either way you choose Rosalie, you cannot win.” He yelled, pointing his finger at me. I now had a steady stream of tears running down my face, and the river wouldn’t stop.

“Let him go. I’ll stay, Amos. You win.” I whispered, sinking to the ground. Amos laughed, while Gerard screamed in agony.

It all happened very quickly. Gerard’s eyes went completely black, and the whole room shook. Amos yelled in alarm and fell to the ground, while I tried to steady myself. There was humming of electricity in the air, and the chains that bound Gerard jangled violently. With a white flash, they vaporized into nothing. Before I had even blinked, he had Amos in a headlock. Gerard looked at me, his black soulless eyes creeping into my mind.

“Look away.” He said flatly. His voice sounded nonhuman, almost like thunder. I did as I was told and put my face in my hands. The room shook even more than it did before.

Amos gave a bloodcurdling scream, and there was a sickening snap. The room stopped vibrating at once, and the humming quieted. I was shaking so bad I removed my hands from my face and sat on them, hoping to stop the tremors.

Gerard was standing over the body of Amos. His eyes were closed, so I couldn’t tell if they were the horrific black, or the honey gold. Then I screamed. Amos’s head hung from Gerard’s hand by his white hair. His eyes were drained of color, like Jane’s and sharp ice spikes protruded from his neck. His face held the expression of a scream.

I looked away, sobs choking my body. The head landed on the floor with a thump, and I heard Gerard walk over to me. He knelt down beside me, and cupped my chin in his hand, bringing me to meet his eyes. They were now that beautiful color that I love, and they were filled with relief. He took me roughly into his arms and embraced me. I buried my face in his shoulder, sobbing.

“What in the hell was that?” I laughed shakily. I heard him chuckle, then wince.

“I guess that’s my power.” He muttered, pulling away from me. I glanced at his chest, which was now a sore red and the whip marks throbbed. I gently ran my hand over one, and he grimaced.

“We have to go.” I whispered, getting up. He nodded and took my hand. “Won’t the others be coming after us?” I said nervously as we casually strolled through the opening (the gate lay far away in the corner; the vibrating was too much for it).

“Nah. Not anymore. Their leader is dead, which means they all have scattered.” He scoffed as we approached the stairs. My mind flashed back to his head and I shivered. Gerard quickly tossed me on his back and with one swift movement, we were up the stairs. I plopped down from Gerard back as he continued to walk towards the exit. We both froze when we saw him standing in front of the final door.

“Gerard, please understand. He shot me with that dart thing, and it controlled my mind!” Frank pleaded, stepping towards us. Gerard through his arm around me and pushed me behind his back.

“Frank, this is not the time. Please leave, we can talk later.” Gerard growled. Frank sighed and looked away, playing with his lip ring.

“I am leaving. I’m taking Brandon to Canada so he can learn to be civilized.” He sighed again. I blinked. Taking Brandon to Cananda?

“Alright. I’ll… we’ll talk later.” Gerard said. Frank gave a quick nod and was gone. I was about to ask why, when Gerard spun around and scooped me up into his arms. Our lips met, and we collectively sighed. He gently bit my lip, making me shiver.

“C’mon. Let’s get out of here.” He muttered, sweeping me into his arms, and running out of the abandoned coven.

We ran past the rock, which I now noticed was just grey. He halted at the main road, where the motorcycle lay parked. Gerard looked down at me, amused.

“I told some guy I’d pay him if I could borrow his motorcycle.” I giggled. He laughed and put me on the back of the motorcycle. He hopped in the front, and I gave him the keys. The engine purred and we began to race down the dark street.

You could have it to where he turns her... Just stein' she wouldn't die and he wouldn't want her blood, but she would continue to smell like a human because she's special or somethin' (I'm just saying this you don't have to do this at all)
