Can You Stake My Heart?

Monsters hidden underneath

***Gerard's POV***

The second I walked into the dorm I could smell him; I just didn’t want to believe it. Memories came back to me in waves, and reality was slapping me hard in the face. Days of laughter and roaming the forests, competing about who could get the biggest bear… his name. Frank. My old best friend, and possibly now my greatest threat.

I was pulled out from my current of thoughts by Rosalie. She gave me warm smile and tackled me with a hug. I breathed in her sweet scent, trying to grip onto what sanity I had left. I embraced her, not ever wanting to let her go.

“There is someone here named Frank Iero. He’s a vampire, and he says you were his partner.” She murmured into my ear. My arms lost feeling and went slack. I took a step back, panic overtaking me. “So this is really happening,” I thought “He’s really here. That bastard is really here.”

Rosalie started to say something, but I knew exactly where he was. I rushed over to my room and threw the door open. My breathing stopped at the sight of him. I felt my hands tremble as he gave me a smile, holding out his hands as if to welcome me.

“Ah, Gerard! Long time, no see. We have much to talk about.” He grinned. His eyes were the same as I remembered, only now a deeper shade of red. He flashed Rosalie a look, and mumbled something under his breath while whisking a hand towards her. Before I could interject, it was too late.

She crumpled to the floor, unconscious. Anger flared up inside me, but at the same time memories kept pouring into my mind like a water fountain. Frank turned back to me, resting his head in his hands.

“So, where do we even start?” He asked, sounding much too friendly for my liking.

“Why the fuck did you have to knock her out Frank?” I growled, scooping Rosalie up and depositing her on my bed. Sitting down next to her, I brushed some of her hair from her face before returning my glare to him.

“Oh come on, Gerard. I did you a favor; she’s not going to want to hear what we discuss.” He sighed, checking his black fingernails.

“We have nothing to discuss, Frank. We separated ways, that’s that.” I hissed at him, my tone sounding harsher than I meant it too. His eyes narrowed, and he slowly got up from my desk. Folding his hands across his chest, he leaned against the desk.

“Gerard, we parted ways because you wanted to. Don’t you remember the fight we had?” He said, frowning. Of course I remembered, but I didn’t feel like saying anything. I looked down at the white sheets. “I never got a chance to apologize. And you know I’m just… really lonely.” He mumbled. Puzzled, I threw my head up. His head was turned, his jaw clenched.

“Frank, I’m the one who should be saying sorry. I never meant to leave you like that, but I just wanted to… to be normal again.” I said apologetically. He sighed, nodding his head.

“Look, I know we can never be as close as were, but I just wanted to tell you I’m sorry. I lost my temper because I didn’t want to lose my best friend.” He said, eyes burning into mine. “I came here with the intention of bringing you back with me, so it could be like the old days. But I saw her, Gerard. And I knew you would never leave.” He whispered, glancing at Rosalie. She was out cold, a faint smile upon her pale lips.

“You love her, don’t you?” Frank muttered, walking to the edge of the bed.

“Yeah. I do.” I smiled, caressing her cheek with the back of my hand. Franks eyes narrowed questioningly.

“Aren’t you afraid of hurting her? I mean, after what happened to-“ I shot Frank a venomous look before he could continue. The first few months when I was new to the whole vampire thing, I accidentally killed a girl I liked when she kissed me. I sucked all of her blood until she looked like a prune. I shivered at the thought.

“I am constantly afraid of hurting her. Honestly, I don’t know what I would do if I did.” I murmured, looking over at Frank. He looked sad, despite the conversation we just had. I knew what I had to do, and I was actually kind of glad I thought of it. “Frank… I don’t have a roommate. Do you want to stay here…?” I coughed. His face burned with happiness and excitement at my words; I knew I had said the right thing.

“Oh dude, fuck yes!” He laughed, jumping up in the air. I chuckled and rolled my eyes. Good ol’ Frank.

“Could you uh…?” I motioned to Rosalie. He nodded, whispering under his breath and motioning towards her. Instantaneously, she shot up, gasping.

“Why the hell did you do that?” She asserted. I laughed while Frank stood there, guilty.

“For privacy.” Frank laughed. A small smile spread across her lips, warming my stone dead heart.

“Well it was cool. I think you should show me more stuff like that.” She grinned. Franks mouth twitched into a smile, and I knew they’d get along fine.

We had all moved to the living room, where I sat next to Rosalie on the couch and Frank stood before us, showing her his magic. Frank had this ability since day one of his vampirism. He could make fire, ice, shadow, and all this other shit, along with putting humans to sleep change their emotions, and… even kill them. I admit, I was kind of jealous. He used to promise me I would “Find my own power” but I didn’t believe it.

“Do it again!” Rose squealed and snuggled into my chest. I wrapped my arm around her as Frank rubbed his hands together. He closed his eyes, and brought his hands to his lips. Suddenly, a burst of flame shot out from his cupped hands and flickered there, as if lighted by a candle. Rosalie laughed as he moved it from one hand to another, and I couldn’t help but smile.

“Watch this shit.” He winked and the flickering flame turned into a sparrow made of fire. It burned vibrant colors like blue, purple, pink, orange and too many others which I couldn’t name. The bird sailed around my dorm, chirping a musical tone. Rosalie “oo’d” and “aahh’d” as the bird circled us.

“Don’t set my place on fire, Frank.” I laughed as the bird continued to fly, it wings showering the floor with sparks. Unexpectedly, the door creaked open. We all whipped our vision to the door, but it was too late to do anything. Brandon stood there, hands in his pockets.

“Hey G-“ Brandon began, but stopped dead in his tracks when he saw the bird of flame. His jaw gaped open, and his eyes widened in alarm. Before either I or Rose could utter a word to him, he collapsed onto the floor. Dead.

***Rosalie’s POV***

“NO!” I screamed as Brandon’s body fell to the ground in a lifeless heap. Tears flooded my vision as I turned to face Frank. He looked calm for the most part, but was taken aback at my expression. The damn fire bird rested on his shoulder, slowly smoldering his clothes.

“FRANK! WHAT THE FUCK!” I screamed my voice cracking. He gave me a weird look as I rushed off the couch and over to Brandon. “Oh god, no please…” I murmured, shaking his body. His showed no sign of expression, his eyes opened wide. I bit my lip to hold back the choking sobs. I quickly moved him and shut the door.

“FRANK! WHY DID YOU DO THAT!?” Gerard yelled. I didn’t bother to look; I just rested my head in my hands over Brandon, letting the tears flow freely.

“HE SAW MY MAGIC! HE COULDN’T HAVE LIVED WITH THE SECRET!” Frank shouted back obviously surprised. The two continued arguing, but all I could think about was Nina. Oh, Nina. I cried harder at the thought of her face when she would learn her boyfriend had died. My body was suddenly forced aside, sending me sprawling to the ground. I wiped my eyes and saw Frank, kneeling down over Brandon.

“Come, Rose. You don’t want to see this.” I heard Gerard whisper behind me as he heaved me up and walked me into his room, shutting the door. Sobs continued to render me speechless, and Gerard embraced me, stroking my hair soothingly.

After moments of silence, blood curdling screams came from outside the door. My eyes widened in horror, looking up at Gerard. His jaw was clenched, a pained look in his eyes. Gently, he pushed my head back to his chest. I whimpered, the tears gradually slowing.

There was a soft knock on the door. “It’s done.” I heard Frank murmur. Gee sighed, pulling away to look at me.

“Just… stay behind me, okay?” He whispered. I nodded and moved behind him, clutching the back of his shirt with both hands. We exited the room and entered the living room. I gagged as the odor hit me; it smelled like rust and iron. Taking a peek over Gerard’s arm, I searched for the source of the wicked smell. What I saw made my knees buckle.

Brandon was standing there, restrained by Frank. His skin was a chalky white, which made the blood on his neck seam to glow. He looked around wildly, as if confused. Then, he locked eyes with me. His once blue eyes, full of life, were now a shocking burgundy red. His lips curled into a snarl and he thrashed wildly in Franks firm grip.

“IT BURNS! I NEED IT! IT BURNS!” He wailed, kicking and throwing his body in all directions.

“Frank, please take him hunting. Try not to lose him. And be careful, it’s still daylight.” Gerard pleaded. Frank gave a curt nod, and disappeared out the door, along with Brandon.

I had just realized that I wasn’t breathing. I took a much needed breath, and tried to calm myself down. Gerard spun around, holding onto my arms.

“You okay?” He coaxed, gently stroking my arms. I gulped and nodded my head. All I could think about was Brandon. He’s a vampire now. He’s a vampire. I suddenly felt very dizzy and almost collapsed. Gee swiftly walked me over to the couch and sat me down. He took the seat next to me, holding my hand with his. I chuckled to myself before voicing my biggest concern.

“What the hell are we going to tell Nina?” I whispered. He only squeezed my hand, remaining silent.

I thought it was going to be hard telling her before, but now I didn’t even know what to do. He brought my hand up to his mouth, brushing my fingers lightly with his lips. It calmed my nerves, and I sighed in relief. I knew that things were going to get really complicated, but I also knew that Gerard would be here to help me.

“We’ll just have to wait and see.” He sighed. I closed my eyes, now aware of how tired I was.

I plunged into a dreamless slumber soon after.

You could have it to where he turns her... Just stein' she wouldn't die and he wouldn't want her blood, but she would continue to smell like a human because she's special or somethin' (I'm just saying this you don't have to do this at all)

;-;
