Can You Stake My Heart?

Take This to My Grave

***Gerard’s POV***

I stood there at the blood red rock which marked the beginning of their territory. Rain clouded my vision, and thunder shook the earth beneath my feet. Without thinking about it, I stepped past the damn rock, and started to run.

I ran, fearing the worst had already happened. If they had gotten to her… I would never be able to forgive myself. It would be my entire fault. This thought fueled the fire that raged inside me.

The mine entrance came into view, and I slowed my pace. Surveying the entrance to make sure it was clear, I continued. Cold rain flooded from my head to my shoes, making it look like I had just gotten out of a lake. I cried out in anger as I smashed the gate to the ground, making it land with a loud clang.

My shoes made a sloshing sound as I ran deeper underground into the mines. There were many passage ways to the right and left of me, but I knew exactly where Rosalie would be. I just hoped it wasn’t too late. A heavy iron gate stood at the end of the hallway.

I heard Amos’s voice, and flew into a fit of rage.

“RAHHH!” I cried out as I flew towards the gate, and kicked it. Hard. It flew to the ground, leaving a dent right smack in the middle. I hunched over, trying to control myself. Amos had his filthy hands on her. The fire burned bright inside me.

“AMOS!” I fumed angrily, pointing to him. He slowly stepped back, tucking his arms neatly behind him. “Prick.” I thought. “Get. Away. From. Her.” I snarled. Rosalie had tears on her face, and her mouth was open as if she were to say something.

“Ah, Gerard. How lovely for you have decided to join us this evening.” Amos said, bowing. I roared, anger overtaking my common sense. Charging at him at full speed, I sent both of us flying. I pinned both of his hands near his head, and dug my knees into his chest. He winced, but maintained a bored look.

“She was fair game Gerard. Don’t be upset at me when it’s your own fault.” He sighed, annoyed. I growled a sound no mortal could conjure up from their throat.

“She is mine. We made a deal. You do not harm her. When I’m away, when I’m here, when she’s away; you NEVER! let me see you or any of your coven near her again!” I spat at him. “And don’t you feed her lies about me. I care about her more than I care about myself.” I whispered harshly to him, louder than I intended to.

“Fine. Release me immediately. I understand our terms.” He hissed through his teeth. I flew up from him, making sure to dig my knees into his chest for good measure. Amos got up slowly, brushing mud from his black shirt. Before turning to leave, he looked at Rose. I furrowed my brows in anger, knowing what he was going to say. He intentionally left his mind open to me so I could read and see every vile thing he was thinking about doing to Rosalie.

“We will meet again. You are meant to be mine.” He said to her, and then flew out of the room. I yelled in anger at his words. I breathed heavy breaths, trying to calm myself down. I suddenly heard sobbing, and whipped around to face her. Her expression tugged at my cold heart, urging me to comfort her. I reached up and snapped the chains that held her. I pulled her into me, embracing her. She put her face in the crook of my neck, allowing her breath to warm my icy skin. I closed my eyes, relieved that she was safe.

“Shhh.” I whispered gently in her ear, rubbing her back soothingly. She sniffed, pulling away from me. Smiling faintly, she pulled away some soaking wet hair that clung to my face, tucking it away behind my ear.

“You saved me. Again.” She laughed shakily, and I smiled. A scream of anger reached my ears, and I knew it was time to leave. I let go of her, only to scoop her up on my back. I gulped, knowing this was not over yet.

“We have to get out of here. We’re on their land, which means they’ll be coming after us.” I told her. I felt her nod in response. Tightly holding on to her, I rushed out of the cave, thunder and lightning beckoning us outside.

My footsteps were soon joined by others, and I knew we were being pursued. I was pretty sure that once we were off their land, they couldn’t chase us anymore, but I wasn’t sure.

“Gerard…” I heard Rosalie yell over the howling wind. I glanced behind me, only to find three dozen of them chasing us. Their hisses and screams blended with the wind. Turning my gaze back ahead, I saw the red stone only a few yards away.

As I tried to run faster, my foot got caught on a loose branch. I stumbled, trying to regain my balance. “Only a few more feet!” I thought inwardly to myself, as my steps became clumsy. I knew I was going to fall, but I also knew that if I fell, we’d both die.

I gave one last cry of effort and pushed myself off of the ground. Rosalie’s hands clutched around my neck as we flew down onto the ground. I landed on my stomach, trying to protect Rosalie. I closed my eyes and quickly grabbed her off my back and into my arms, hugging her tight against me with her head against my chest and my head in her hair. I prepared for the oncoming hoard of vampires, but no vampires came.

I looked up, opening my eyes. Dozens of red rubies gleamed down at us in rage, unmoving. Looking to the left, I saw the blood rock only inches from my feet. I let out a sigh of relief and flopped my head onto the ground, letting the rain fall upon my face. The hoard eventually began to disperse, until only Rosalie and I remained.

***Rosalie’s POV***

“I’m dead. I died.” I thought to myself. Gerard and I were on the muddy ground, as the rain pounded around us. I was too shocked to move. All I could do was grip onto Gerard’s white shirt, hands trembling. The shirt that was once so white and pristine was now covered in mud, blood, and was soaked through, revealing marble white skin.

“Get me away from here.” I finally whispered, shaking violently. I was cold and tired; I kinda wished I was dead at this point. Without saying a word, he got up, still holding me. He swung me into his arms, bridal style and began to run. I turned my head into his chest, and closed my eyes; waiting for this to be over.

My eyes snapped open as I heard the sound of squeaking shoes against a wooden floor. A door slammed and I heard a sigh. I looked up to see Gerard looking down at me, sadness in his eyes. He gently slid me down, and I landed on my shaky legs.

“I am so sorry.” Gerard whispered his voice cracking. I frowned in surprise.

“For what?” I said. He looked at me painfully, small tears in his eyes. I put my hand on his cheek, and he leaned into it, moving his hand to hold mine against his face.

“For putting you in danger. For abandoning you. For everything I have ever done to you. I thought you would be h-happier and safer without me, and I figured you didn’t need me, so I decided to try and forget about you. Amos was half right. I never stopped caring about you, but I tried. I tried to trick myself into believing I didn't like you.” He sobbed, closing his eyes. My lip quivered. “Now I know Rosalie. I know that what I did was stupid. I need you Rosalie. I’m the one who needed you all along.” He whispered, opening his eyes that shined in the dim light of the dorm.

“Gerard-“ I began, but was cut off by his rainsoaked lips. All my stress melting away, I leaned into the him, tangling my fingers into his wet messy hair. Our lips moved in sync, like we’d done this hundreds of times before. His hands grasped my waist gently, almost in a comforting way. After what seemed like forever, He pulled away slowly, smiling. I giggled, brushing my fingers through his hair.

“I think I need a shower.” He mumbled, looking down at himself. I now just realized he was covered in mud. I quickly looked at myself, and saw my white flesh caked in mud as well. There was also a gigantic puddle surrounding us.

“Yeah, I need one too. I’m not going to class tomorrow, so is it okay if I just stay here?” I asked shyly. He smiled and nodded.

“I’ll be quick.” He said, his hands falling away from me as he jogged into his bedroom. The blush in my cheeks dulled, while I smiled to myself. My smile quickly faded when I thought of Nina.

“Shit.” I muttered, searching for my phone. Miraculously, it was still in my pocket. The screen had a tiny crack in it, and there was mud all over my Smashing Pumpkins case. I was glad, it could have been a lot worse. I heard the shower begin to run as it turned on. As soon as I saw my homescreen (my old cat Beemo) texts began overloading my poor phone.
“Where are you babe?”
“Cmon Rosalie, answer.”
“Okay where the fuck are you?”
“ROSALIE. ANSWER ME DAMMAT.”
15 missed calls from Nina

I choked back a laugh as I dialed her number and put my phone up to my ear. It rang once before she picked up.

“WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU AND WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU FUCKING DOING!? IT’S LIKE 2 IN THE MORNING!” She yelled into the phone I sniggered.

“Calm down, I’m with Gerard. We went out.” I said. I heard her sigh in frustration.

“You went out on a Monday night?” She accused.

“Yes. Go to bed Nina, I’m fine. Love you.” I said, clicking my tongue. Before she could reply, I hung up. I walked over to the couch and rested my phone on the coffee table. I was startled by the sound of Gerard’s voice.

“Your turn for the shower. I left you a towel and clothes in there.” He said. He was leaning against the doorway. He wore a white v-neck and black pajama pants; his eyes gleamed in the familiar honey yellow. His hair was damp, but fell nicely. He had a crooked grin settled on his lips. I stared at him until I realized I probably looked like an idiot.

“Oh. Thanks.” I murmured, quickly shuffling pass him and into the bathroom. I closed the door, contemplating if I should lock it. I decided I really didn’t need to, and began stripping off the clothing that clung to my body. My hair had fallen out at some point, and dripped against my bare back. Turning the shower knob, I adjusted the temperature to hot. Waiting for it to heat up, I examined the clothes he had left for me. The shirt was navy blue, and was a regular t shirt. The pants were black pants like his, but were smaller. I smiled, knowing he probably shrunk them trying to wash them.

Steam began to spiral around me, and I hopped into the shower. The hot water warmed me and soothed my aches. I stood there for a few minutes, soaking it all in. I used some dove body soap to scrub the dried mud off of me. After that I used some of his conditioner and tried to untangle my hair. Once that was all taken care off, I decided I should get out. I turned off the water and quickly grabbed for my towel, wrapping it around me. I dried myself off and then began to dry off my hair. Luckily, I had a hairband which I used to tie my hair in a braid. I put on the clothes provided and stepped out of the bathroom, shutting off the lights.

Gerard laid in his bed, under the covers. He barely breathed, eyes fluttering open tiredly.

“Goodnight.” I said, and he mumbled something back but I couldn’t hear. I heard him try and get up from the bed, but he fell back down, exhausted. I smiled. He went through a lot for me, he deserved to sleep. I quietly walked out of his room, and laid down on the couch. I wrapped myself in the blanket that hung over the back of it, and immediately fell asleep.

I opened my eyes to a pair of ruby red ones. Amos hovered over me, smiling evilly. I tried to scream for Gerard, but I couldn’t speak. he roughly shoved my head to the right, and made me look sideways. There he was. Gerard was laying on the floor, stone dead. His neck was bent at an awkward angle, and his hand was reached out towards me. Tears cascaded down my face, my mouth open in what would be a scream.

“Fear can turn to love, you’ll see!” Amos cackled, and bent down to my neck. With one final chuckle, he bit it. My throat finally unblocked, and I let out a blood curdling scream.

I jolted upwards, throwing the blanket off of me and falling to the floor. “It was only a dream. Only a dream.” I repeated to myself, shaking in fear. The room was dark, and menacing. I whimpered, knowing I’d go crazy alone. Slowly walking over, I pushed open his door.

I tip-toed across the rough wooden floor, and up the the edge of his bed. I reached out my hand to touch his shoulder, but hesitated. I felt really stupid and childish. Biting my lip, I lightly tapped him on the shoulder. I noticed his shoulder was bare; he must’ve taken his shirt off. This made me blush and I felt even more stupid.

Gerard sat up at the touch of my hand, and looked at me with sleepy eyes. His bare chest made my face feel like it was on fire.

“What’s wrong, sugar?” He yawned, scratching his head.

“I had a… a bad dream,” I croaked, tears welling in my eyes. “Can I…?” I made a motion to his bed, and he widened his eyes.

“Of course, come here.” He whispered, and grabbed my waist, pulling me down next to him. Gerard quickly put me under his big fluffy sheets and wrapped his arms around me, squeezing me lightly. I snuggled into his chest, his skin cooling my cheek.

After a few moments of peaceful silence, he spoke.

“You know,” He murmered “I think I love you, Rosalie.”
I blinked as my heart skipped a beat, drinking in what he had just said. It took me a few seconds to come up with my response.

“You know, I think I love you too, Gerard.”

You could have it to where he turns her... Just stein' she wouldn't die and he wouldn't want her blood, but she would continue to smell like a human because she's special or somethin' (I'm just saying this you don't have to do this at all)

;-;
