A New Way is on the Way

MFOB

I didn’t do anything. I just sat outside in the living room, staring at the floor. I looked at the old grandfather clock. The steady ticking calming me down; the time three o’clock on the dot. Not a second latter did the door open and Frank stepped in with a box of boxers. Along with nuts; almonds to be exact Frank hated almonds!

“Frank what is going on? You don’t like nuts, and when did you decide that you were going to start to wear boxers?” I asked, I started to get really light headed. I got up to go get a glass of water but Frank stopped me.

“Don’t worry about that, you sit down. I will get you some water and blood. Did you even eat today Mikey?” Frank asked as he brought me water.

“No I wasn’t hungry” I whispered, I really wasn’t. I’m still not hungry.

Frank picked me up and took me out of the house grabbing both of our coats and a pair of converse for me. I was put in the passenger seat of the car and Frank helped me get my coat on and shoes.

“Where are we going Frank?” I asked as I was buckled in.

“To see a MFOB I want you checked out” Frank was very blunt so I knew he was scared. MFOB stands for Male Fertile Obstetrician. In other words a doctor that specialized in Male Fertile pregnancy’s.

“Frank I’m fine! I was just a little light headed” I mumbled, I knew who he was taking me to and I was going to regret it in the end.

“Suck it up, Michael you’re going. Maybe you can do that first bit a little latter” I cringed when Frank called me my full first name. But when Frank suggested more sex I just started to feel worn out.

When we pulled up I walked to the front desk and was forced to sit down by Frank. Dr. Toro was in my future. Although he was a nice guy he was scary in the fact he was tall scared me even more.

“Hey, Babe come on room four they want to get some blood testing done from you.” I nodded and stood up. Frank wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me close to him.

I was sat on one of the little tables and then my arm was stabbed with a needle. My blood was pulled and then taken away to have tests run on the samples. This all felt unnecessary.

The door was knocked on fifteen minutes later. The door opened and Dr. Toro was pushing a cart with an ultrasound on it.

“Mr. Iero-Way, I have some good news and some bad news.” Dr. Toro said taking seat on the stool that looked over used. A large piece of duct tape was over the middle of the stool, stitching on the stool was fraying.

“What’s the bad news?” Frank asked concerned, his face and eyes were even more concerned than before; if that was possible.

“No good news first it will make more since that way. Mikey Iero-Way you pregnant, I know that you test every week so let me explain why it didn’t show up on the tests. Your hormone wasn’t up high enough for the test to read it. But what caused your dizziness was a spike of hormones. Every single one that was bottled up was released into your blood stream. This release caused you to get dizzy. The bad news is the gel for the ultra sound is going to be cold the warmer broke down early this morning.” Ray just moved and Frank broke down into tears. The tears just poured out of his eyes.

“Frank its okay” I told him, I grabbed his hand and rubbed circles in the soft skin.

He nodded and I was happy, Frank and I were finally going to be parents to a little person. Six months from now I would have a little vampire in my arms.

“I-I’m just s-s-so happy” Frank was balling now. “O-OK I’m A-a-alright”

Frank was fanning himself with his hands now. The tears were starting to fade. Though Frank was still on the verge of tears.

After ten minutes it was starting to sink in, I was going to become a parent in a few months’ time.

“Alright Mikey would you please lay down and not hate me, this is going to be cold. But first I need you to pull your pants down just to your hips and your top to the beginning of your ribs.” I did as I was told only to feel something colder than Frank’s hands.

“Holy shit, that’s fucking cold” I squall, cringing.

Then Dr. Toro brought a wand out and placed it on the goop. After moving the stick around for a while he paused and turned up the volume. A heartbeat, a small fast heartbeat and a when looking I saw a baby, that will soon be mine.

Then it hit me and I broke down in tears. Frank held me and whispered things in my ear while stroking my hair. Frank and I were going to be parents. There was a single life in me. Dr. Toro moved the wand again and the picture shifted and I could still see the baby but I could now see the placenta.

After being dismissed I held a photo in my right hand and my left was on my stomach. Frank told me we were headed to Gerard’s place. The car ride was quiet but I was still in shock. I was pregnant and three months pregnant at that! Six more months and I would have a small bundle of joy.

I opened the door and I stepped out Gerard was standing on the porch with a smoke in his mouth. I just stood back I didn’t want to put the baby at risk. Gerard put out the smoke and stepped forward waving to me. I placed the photo in my pocket and stepped forward.

“So Frank, you said there was news. What’s the news?” Lynz was on Gerard’s lap and I was in Frank’s.

“I’m pregnant” I said in the tight air. The couple across from me and Frank jumped up and I got a hug.

“I told you Mikey, I told you just give it time and now l am so happy for you and Frank. A new Way is on the way Mikey” Gerard was smiling larger than I have ever seen.

At some point I fell asleep on Franks lap. My head on his shoulder, and my back to his chest.

I woke up a few hours later and I was at home. Frank had his arms wrapped around me. I felt sick to my stomach. I threw off the covers and broke free of my husband’s grasp and I ran to the restroom.

I made it just in time I fell to my knees and the bile rushed up my throat and out my mouth. Frank ran in and then calmed down a little he got down on the floor with me and rubbed my back. The slow steady circles calming my nerves; grabbed something and the tap started running.

Frank got back down with a glass of water. “I think your morning sickness has started dear.”

“You don’t say.” I sassed him and then shakily walked back to bed. That was the worst thing ever. I hated every minute of being sick, but in the end, it should all be worth it
