Make way for Way

Ray and Mikey settled down, Mikey grabbing a pudding cup out of the fridgerator before sitting with us at the cherry wood dining room table.

"Okay, shitheads. Listen up. We got 11 days until the concert so let's try not to fuck this up," Ray opened, Frank and I disapprovingly glancing at each other. I felt a warm hand reach behind my ear, and start to twirl my ebony hair. "Frank, not now," I lovingly informed him, whispering, and not wanting to see the others' reactions. I felt like a mother being firm with her child as I gazed into his beautiful, glazed-over, hazel eyes. I almost couldn't resist those tempting lips, but I, somehow, managed to control myself.

I glanced away and cleared my throat before interrupting.

"You really think we're going to get this memorized in 11 days? Are you nuts? We can't even-" A soothing hand traced along mine on the counter, calming me before giving in to letting Ray continue.

"As I was saying," Rays' eyes flashed at me in disdain, my face immediately becoming hotter by the second. "We have a few song choices. Gerard? You have first vote," he finished, handing the conversation over to me. I nervously fiddled with my hoodie before answering.

I didn't know what to say, so I just answered, "Well, we could do something from earlier on. Maybe we could start out with Romance and then go into something from Three Cheers. I was thinking Jetset?" I didn't bother finishing my sentence.

"It's The Jetset Life Is Gonna Kill You," Mikey shot back. "And you can't just go from a soft instrumental into something from a totally different album, Gerard. You're being-"

"Shut the fuck up!" Frank protectingly shouted, startling me because his mouth was so close to my ear. Once again, my face began to blush. "We'll do Interlude, and then go into Jetset. How's that?" My mouth agape, I started to become startled by the fact that my innocent Frank had just insulted and offended his own band member- Mikey, that is. He was never one to shout.

"Fucking fine with me," Ray gave in, his gloved hands up in the air. Thank God we had another song to work with.

Mikey started to put his guard down. "Fine. Frank, how much time do we have?"

Frank hesitated before pulling the crumpled pamphlet out of his jean pocket. He opened it, unfolding all the creases. "5 minutes," he answered, unsure.

"That's it. We're fucked," Mikey almost gave up while trying to leave, when Ray yanked him back onto the chair by his coat hood.

Ray rolled his eyes at Mikey while trying to speak. "No, we're not fucked. If the Interlude is one minute long and the other one is about four, that adds up to five. We'll have, maybe, 15 seconds of extra time. Stop being an asshole, Mikey. I'll go get the guitars. Mikey, come with me."

Frank and I watched Ray and Mikey leave for the garage, the door slamming. Frank tapped on my shoulder, looking around the room before cupping my cheek and leaning in. I let out a little noise, gazing into his hazy eyes. Mine were so dull compared to his beautiful orbs.
